Hello, it will be my first time in Greece, Im trying to find a good/not sketchy rental car service for both Naxos and Milos, some of the websites say in their policy that the minimum age is 23.
I found one, but all the reviews are 5 stars https://enjoynaxoscar.com/ and Im a bit worried if the reviews are fake or the owner delete the bad ones.
Could you tell me other rental car services used by the users that fit my criteria?
Thanks in advance!
If you are traveling to Santorini or Amorgos the next few days/weeks, please pay attention to the news.
Travel is one of the best teachers, but sometimes the lessons come the hard way—missed flights, bad packing choices, or trusting the wrong advice. What’s a travel mistake in Greece you made once and swore you’d never make again?
Hoping to get some opinions on the best way to travel to Larissa after landing in. Is it best take the train from the Airport, or find way into Athens train station and go from there. Anything else I should be mindful about?
Was I scammed?
I booked a trip from Athens to Meteora with my girlfriend through a travel agency. We were supposed to meet at the main bus station at 07:45 and depart at 08:00. At 08:10, a taxi driver approached us, asked if we were going to Meteora, and said the bus had left 5 minutes earlier.
At that moment, there were five of us waiting for the same tour. We had arrived at 07:30, exactly at the location shown in the agency’s picture. The taxi driver drove like a madman to “catch up” with the bus that had supposedly left just 5 minutes earlier. He drove for over half an hour and then demanded €80, threatening to call the police if we didn’t pay.
The bus driver yelled at us, asking why we were late, and claimed he had been waiting “a little further” from the location in the picture—about 100 meters away. Of course, the bus had no markings from the agency or any indication of its destination.
It’s not about the money, but the principle. I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience, how badly I was scammed in this case, and who I should report this to so that others don’t go through the same thing.
Best regards!
Where would i be able to purchase tickets for the Greece vs Scotland game on the 20th of March? I’ve seen some tickets being sold on 3rd party sites but haven’t seen any official links yet. Any help will be appreciated, thanks a lot!
I will be travelling to Athens from the 15th to the 22nd if that’s relevant.
Planing almost 3 weeks in Greece and wanting some feedback on whether this sounds like a good way to spend our time.
For context, we are 2 people from Australia. And we are coming from Paris. This will be the last 3 weeks of August. First time doing the Ionian islands but have been to Greece twice.
Corfu - 4 nights Paxos - 3 nights Lefkada - 5 nights Kefalonia - 5 nights Athens - 3 nights
We will likely have a hire car on the islands.
We’re planning our summer vacation and need help identifying an international 5* standard all inclusive resort anywhere in Greece (outside of Athens Riviera) that are family friendly but offer upscale service offerings like butler / concierge, designated premium / VIP areas for pools and beach and lounges, nightly turn down service etc… Needs to have a kids club and/or nanny service. Bonus if they have 2 bedroom suites with private pool.
We generally stay at Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton resorts so this is the service level we’re looking for in Greece.
Do you all have any suggestions?
Thank you!!
Hi! My wife and I are spending a couple days in Santorini in September (9/3-9/6) for our honeymoon. We are staying in Imerovigli and are wondering whether we should rent a car.
We're thinking of spending one day seeing Oia, Fira and the north side of the island, and might be interested in checking out some of the volcanic beaches on the south side one day. I've read that taxis are expensive and busses get crowded, but also that parking can be difficult in Oia.
We're also arriving by plane and leaving by ferry, so we would have to drop the rental car off at the airport and then taxi to the ferry port on the way out.
Curious if anyone thinks we should rent a car or has any other suggestions for getting arounud.
Hi all,
Looking to book a villa with Crete-Escapes and wondering if anyone has used them before and/or if they are legitimate/reliable?
Thanks!
Hi community of reddit, how are you?
My group of friends and I are probably going to Rhodes or Ciprus this summer probably in august.
We are a group of 10 people (age range 19-20) and we would like to rent one or two cars for 6/7 days in one of these two cities depending on what we choose. I was wondering if someone could help me because most of the rental societies want the driver to be at least 21, and I wanted to know if this was real, we are all from Italy and we got our licenses 1 or 2 years ago.
Also I tried to look on different sites that states different things.
Some sites want me to book a car with hertz on their site and when I go on hertz site it doesn't show the same cars because of our age.
Can someone help me on this? we want really bad to go to these places and we are open to pay the "young driver fee" but I can't find nothing.
Thank you in advance and sorry if my English wasn't the best
Hello I’m visiting some Greek friends this year and we are heading to Paros we are young lads around 17-18 and one of them will get his driving license around the beginning of July( we will go to Paros in 11 of July). We are going to stay in the city of naoussa but we would like to be able to get our car to travel and explore the whole island.I think there is an age requirement to be able to rent a car but what are the possibilities to be able to find a ticket the last moment for a car? Moreover to be able to register it to your name after you have booked the personal tickets(we won’t risk to book the tickets by person the last moment)
Hello! My partner and I are attending an event in Greece this summer. The event is in Loutraki but we are planning to get to Greece about a week prior and just vacation with family. To get to Loutraki, we need to fly into Athens but getting some advice that we’d only want to spend a “day or two” in Athens. I have never been to Greece so I’m not sure if that’s true or not but we’d be open to flying somewhere else (Crete, Mykonos, whatever else) and then flying to Athens from there closer to the actual event.
That said, if there’s enough to do in Athens to keep us busy for 3-4 days, then it seems more convenient to just go straight there! Does anyone have any thoughts on that? We’ve never been to Greece but vacation-wise, my partner and I tend to fall on the “relax” side rather than adventure. For reference, we did our last summer vacation in Waikiki and we’d like to hike and then lay on the beach for the rest of the day or go do an activity and then lay on the beach the rest of the day 😂 We don’t need to much to entertain us.
TIA!
Hi Everyone!!
My fiance and I are getting married early May 2026 and would love to do Greece for our honeymoon (neither of us have been before).
My first question pertains to timing- is the beginning of June hot enough or is it better to wait until mid/end of June? We both want to enjoy the beaches and swim in the sea.
Second question regarding islands- highly interested in Santorini (I know what the opinions are but we want to at least stay here 2-3 nights), Naxos (4-5 nights), and then either Milos or Folegandros (4 nights). Athens would be either our first or last stop for 1 night depending on flight timing. Does anyone have a personal preference between Milos or Folegandros? While Milos looks amazing, a car rental is a must to get around here and I’m not sure if we want to be driving around non stop. Or is there another island you love and feel is better?
Appreciate any input 😊
We will be in Greece late April/early May and exploring eSIm options. Our AirBnB hosts have all told us the Cosmote network has the best overall coverage. We will be spending time in Athens, Milos, Santorini, Crete and Porto Rafta. I found a company called UniSim which is the only travel eSim company claiming to include Cosmote network access. They alos have very attractive pay-as-you-go rates. I know we can stop at a Cosmote office to buy a physical Sim after arriving but that's a hassle I'd rather avoid. Having a travel eSim work upon landing in Athens is much preferred. Curious if anyone here has ever tried UniSim and/or plans to use it sometime between now and late April?
Hey folks, my (m) boyfriend and me are planing to visit greece for 7 to 9 days this semptember and are currently torn between Crete and Mykonos.
Our ideal vacation would include:
We did some research and found that Mykonos is very lgbt friendly, sometimes even considered the gay capitol of Europe. But looking at it on google street view it just all seems so... barren? Little to no plants, just dry bushes and your obligatory olive tree every now and then. If you just look on pictures on google, it's completely different.
Crete on the other hand is just huge and probably run over by tourists, on the other hand my boyfriend fears there won't be any possibilities to party as a gay couple, since Crete isn't explicitely called queer friendly according to our google search.
What do you think would be the better option?
Hi! So I have been struggling to make a decision which airlines to choose. The thing is I have flown Sky Express from Athens to Warsaw without any issues. Right now as I was about to book the travel - Warsaw - Athens - Kos - I stumbled upon horror stories and bad reviews about Sky Express. I am aware that leaving the baggage behind is mostly due to short runway, that is not the issue with my travel plan, but I've heard about Sky Express changing fly dates and so on. Still the transfer time on the airport in Athens is 2h 10 min which is better than Aegan/Olympic with 1h only....
So if I haven't read horror stories on Sky Express I would have booked the flights, however now I'm looking on other options. I tried to contact Aegan to ensure that the transfer between flights is secured - meaning if there are any delays they can offer a next free plane or anything, since the first flight is Aegan and second Olympic Air, but they are sending me faqs page to look up and no more info on that. Personally, I think 1h transfer is not safe and it shouldn't be even available upon search, but yeah.
If you have an suggestions, I would gladly take your words of advise. Thanks!
My fiancé and I are honeymooning in Greece from the 29th of August until the 21st of September (23 days) We would like feedback on our itinerary.
Sat 29th- Land in Athens 7am, fly to Sifnos Sifnos - 3 nights Milos - 5 nights (2 nights Pollonia, 3 nights Plaka) Folegandros - 3 nights Naxos - 4 nights Amorgos - 3 nights Astypalea- 2 nights (fly back to Athens) Athens - 2 days
I’m thinking of culling one/two of the islands to have more time in Athens and reduce the amount of time moving around as we want to be able to relax. We would love some feedback on which to cull and if the order of visiting the islands is ideal considering the time of year.
Thanks!
Just heard that my wife who is on a UK spouse visa (she has Bangladesh passport) will need to attain a Schengen visa in order to travel to Greece. Our flight is on Friday 7th Feb 2025 but apparently we need to apply for visa 2 weeks in advance.
Is this quite serious? I’m planning to call the Greek embassy tomorrow to see if we can do an urgent visa but stupidly I wasn’t aware that we may lose our flights and accommodation if she doesn’t have a visa.
Isn’t there no way for her to get a Greek visa on time for the 7th Feb?
Need some practical advice. We are a group of 10 people with 4 kids (toddlers+ 8 yo kids). We will spend 5 days in Crete before moving onto Naxos. There are 2 options, one is flight to Naxos from Heraklion via Athens and the other is world champion jet from seajets. I have travelled in smaller catamarans in the past and felt mildly sea sick in those. My question is for our early May travel considering we have kids with us, should we try the 3 hour ferry or go for the fairly expensive and indirect flight? Any pointers will be appreciated.
Hello All,
I’ve been stresssing about this trip, so hopefully one of you can help :). Spending 8 days in Greece. I’m in love with Zakynthos , Lefkada , and Kefalonia. And want to still do Mykonos for a few days. Is this unrealistic ? Im trying to figure out how to ferry to these islands , rent a car ? It’s alll becoming very stressful:(. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Hello, I'm planning to spend 2 days in Chania, commuting via public transport. Any suggestions on what to do?
Also, any idea if Samaria Gorge will be open by then? Thanks!
Hello
I wonder if anyone could recommend somewhere on corfu suitable for a 5 day stay. It's my partners 50th and I'm looking for somewhere picturesque, quiet and romantic. I have stayed in barbarti beach which was nice previously but keen for other recommendations. Looking for bed and breakfast ideally or self catering not a big hotel.
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
We had our Greece itinerary planned out but have the opportunity to extend our trip by 3 extra nights. Currently it is:
Fly back to Athens and then we’re off to Turkey.
We’re considering adding Crete into the itinerary but I know it’s pretty big so we are considering changing it to:
Worried about whether 2 nights in Milos is too rushed - we arrive early morning and would leave about midday. We were thinking 3 nights Crete but the ferry Paros - Crete arrives at 6pm and we wouldn’t really do much on that first night. Or should we keep it 3 nights Milos, 3 nights Crete?
We will be seeing a lot of beaches (in Turkey too) so I thought Crete would be a good addition as it’s a bit more different. We really want to do the gorge hike and museums but not too fussed about the beaches because we will see plenty.
Is Greece (Athens & santorini) in February a bad call? I don’t mind if it’s a bit chillier, it’s still 5-10• warmer than where I live. But will most things be closed during that time, even in two major cities like Athens and Santorini?
Highly recommend the Thermal Baths @ Thermopylae. Great people, lovely water, and the perfect place to warm up on a colder winter day. Bring towels and some regular water to wash-off with ✌🏽
Hey everyone! I’m coming to this island called Tinos (20 min from Mykonos) and i was wondering if it’s worth it to rent a bike.
I’m going to stay there for three nights, in a hotel right on the beach in the main village. i’m doing this trip to relax, eat good food and stay on the beach all day, i really want to find the best ones (even if they are a few kilometers away) so i was thinking about getting a bicycle for myself for a few days.
Does anyone has been there and know if its worth it? do they use water taxis? Renting a car is not really an option bc my license is expired and i can only fix it when i go back to my home country, unless it doesn’t matter and they don’t ask for it 👀 hahah (what would be totally fine by me lol)
Also, if anyone has recommendations of the island it’ll be greatly appreciated! restaurant, hidden beaches, little boutiques…
I’m traveling alone in the beginning of june for a bit of context :D
Thanks and safe travels guys!!
Staying about 30 min walking distance from the old town, what is the best way to get around the town? is it walking? or do they have those tiny e-scooters you can rent? Is the buss worth it? just trying to get my bearings but google isn’t my friend rn
Hi! going to crete this summer, thinking of renting a moped to get around town and such, my question is: can i have a passenger? (on a 50cc moped) i’ve noticed this varies a lot from country to country and i couldn’t find any info about it
Hi all,
I have a couple of travelling logistic questions getting between Athens / Milos / Cretes for my upcoming trip in May 2025. It will be the first time me and my partner will be heading to Greece:
Context (EDITED)
Day 1: Arrive Athens Day 1 (6:30 AM).
Walk around a couple of museum
Rooftop Restaurant for a view of the Acropolis
Stay in Monastiraki for the night
Days 2-4: Travel from Athens to Milos (day 2), then 2 full day at Milos.
Seajet from PIRAEUS to Milos
Half Day 2: Explore Plaka Town, Port Town, Sarakiniko Beach, and home base at Pollonia
Full Day 3: Full day Kleftiko boat tour
Full Day 4: Undecided (whatever we didnt get to do on the day we arrive most likely)
Day 5-10: Travel from Milos to Cretes (day 5), then 5 full day at Cretes.
Arrive by Minoan Line to Heraklion (looks to be an overnight 1:20AM to 6:30AM boat). So technically this is 6 full days.
"Full" Day 5 (arrival day): Arrive in Heraklion at 6:30 AM. Visit Heraklion Archaeological Museum, grab a car and go to Knossos. Then drive to Chania and call it a day
Full Day 6: Probably tired from the overnight boat and yesterday. Take it easy around Old Chania
Full Day 7: Samsoria Gorge Day Trip (this will probably tired us)
Full Day 8: Rest and Relax. Me and the wife isn't too big of a hiker so yesterday would probably kill us. Resort? haha
Full Day 9: Day Trip to Elafonisi Beach from Chania.
Full Day 10: Drive to Kissamos and day Trip to Gramvousa and Balos Lagoon from Chania.
Day 11: Leave from Chania airport (Flight booked, leaving CHQ at 9:20 AM).
Questions
From Athens to Milos, I see that there are a few options from PIRAEUS Port to Milos. However, for Milos to Cretes, I only seen option from Minoan Lines that runs once a day. How safe is this and how is the Minoan Line? I see that it is around a 5 hour boat ride. What are my alternatives? Flight is okay too.
In Milos, we will be staying in Pollonia and will be renting a car to travel about. Does anyone foresee any issue with that? I look to be able to go from one side of the island to another relatively fast.
We would most likely home base in Chania in Cretes and driving about too. In four days, we wanted to do Heraklion and the west side of the island. Do you think we would need to split it into two home bases?
Thank you for taking your time to read through this!
