We are currently trying to plan our honeymoon and will be spending 2 weeks in Greece before a week in Croatia. Would love any recommondations / itinerary suggestions, neither of us have ever been to Greece before. Currently we are thinking:
I’m traveling from NYC to Santorini (JTR) and there’s a layover in LHR. It would be American Airlines to American Airlines (operated by British airways though for the second half?) not sure if this is enough layover time. Thank you
Trying to get from NYC to Santorini and a layover in LHR for 1 Hr 40 mins is an option. It would be American Airlines (not operated by British airways) to American Airlines (operated by British airways?) not sure how far the terminals will be! Thank you!
Hi all,
I’ll be travelling to Europe next year in June from Australia and will be crossing into Greece at the start of July.
Right now the plan is to fly from Amalfi Coast to Zante, which I’ll be staying in for 4/5 days, then I will be flying to Athens where I will be spending the rest of my trip and flying back home from.
Athens is a definite spot we will be travelling to but Zante I am still on the fence about.
I chose Zante over Mykonos as I felt that I could choose a better destination for my first travel, and somewhere a bit less expensive. Also have heard Mykonos is quite overrated but I wouldn’t know.
My question is, Has anyone ever been to Zante then gone to Athens and how did it go? Are there any other Greek Islands you’d recommend over Zante and why?
Keep in mind this is my first time travelling overseas so I will take any tips and info from you guys and its really appreciated!
I'll be arriving at the Athens airport from Crete at noon and flying home two days later. I've already booked a few days in Athens at the start of my trip. I'm wondering if I should spend those last two nights in Athens again or rent a car and visit somewhere else that's not too far from the Athens airport? Any suggestions for something to see that's not in Athens? Trip is in May if that affects anything.
My wife and I have an island hopping trip with bicycles on a boat leaving from and returning to Athens from 10/18/25-10/26/25 . I basically want to spend the entire month of October in Greece.
We are looking for outdoor travel options (self-guided if possible) that would be appropriate for that time of year. We are in our early to mid 60’s, are very active, very experienced backpackers, climbers, cyclists (both MTB and road). We are not super-experienced international travelers, but we love adventure.
We ideally would like to do two trips in the country before 10/18 of a week or so each that would incorporate our skills into the trips. We would probably prefer hut-to-hut or low budget lodging options as we want to avoid heavy packs. We would not be opposed to higher budget lodging options as long as the adventure requirement is fulfilled.
What recommendations might you all have for us?

Looking to honeymoon in Greece next year, but my partner is allergic to pistachios, but I know that is a very commonly used nut, especially in desserts. Will this make eating out exceptionally difficult, or is it easy to avoid or find accommodations for allergies if we inform the staff? Are there any 100% safe pistachio free foods and desserts or restaurants we can seek out? We are definitely looking at Athens, but still unsure of what islands or other cities to check out.
Partner is also allergic to cashews but I’m not sure how common those are in Greek food. We have epi pens for these allergies but would prefer to avoid an incident, especially while traveling 😅
Any advice is much appreciated!
I just went food shopping for my first time in Athens(Glyfada) and was amazed there were no hot chili peppers to be found. Who knows where to go for the 🔥? Bonus points if there’s a farmer’s market with chilies 🌶️
για! I’m currently in Athens for a couple of days and am hanging out for a gyros souvlaki, does anyone know any good places to go? I’m staying around plaka area so everywhere seems like tourist traps!! I literally saw a restaurant selling a souvlaki plate for like 25 euros!! My family is from the islands so I’m missing those 2 euro souvlakia hahaha
Preferably would like to find a good one around the area to walk to but I’m willing to travel out!!
Hey everyone quick question:
I’m going to Greece from Charlotte nc usa. My wife and I signed up for pre-tsa but I don’t think we signed up for global entry. If we are going to Greece one time and we are trying to make a 1200pm flight back to Charlotte from Greece would you recommend we sign up to get it? It’s pretty pricy at over a 100 dollars a person.
Hi quick question here. So we're excited for greece next year and one of the highlights are renting those little scooters to drive around. Buddy said we might have to have a motorcycle license (here in canada) for us to be able to rent a scooter in Greece. Small problem as I don't have a motorcycle license and wasn't planning on get one. Tia
Hi,
I’ve got a ticket to see my favorite artist D.Dan on December 14th at Smut in Athens. I’ve read reviews about people being denied entry even with a valid ticket. Is this true, and on what grounds?
I’m a chill, casual guy who dresses simply and stays on the dance floor enjoying the music and spread good vibe.
How the people dress / act here ?
Do I need to dress or act a certain way to ensure entry? Should I go for a darker, Berlin Berghain-style vibe?
Thanks!
Hi!
We will be visiting the area in the beginning of January (will be staying in Nafplio). I was thinking to take a day trip to one of these islands (I know Methana technically isn't an island but bear with me).
Poros looks beautiful in the pictures, but will it be nice this time of year? Are there hiking paths there?
In Methana I was mainly thinking of doing the hike to the top of the volcano. Is it recommended in the winter?
And generally which of these would you recommend more?
Thank you!
Does anyone know if the ferry to Spinalonga would still be running this late in the year and do I catch it from Plaka ?
Hi, fellow travelers!
We’re planning a trip to Milos and are trying to figure out the best way to get around the island. I have a disability, so convenience and accessibility are important to us. I often rely on Google Maps GPS for navigation when traveling, and I’m wondering how reliable it is on Milos. Does it work well for finding directions to and from beaches, restaurants, and points of interest?
We’re debating between renting a side-by-side ATV or relying on the local buses. The ATV seems like it would give us more flexibility, but we want to make sure navigation won’t be a hassle if we go that route. If you’ve used an ATV or driven on the island, how easy was it to get around with GPS?
Some places we’re considering visiting include:
We’re likely staying in Adamas and want to make the most of our time exploring. Any tips, personal experiences, or advice for getting around (especially for someone with accessibility needs) would be super helpful!
Thank you in advance! 😊
Hello! I will be visiting Athens at the end of January with my girlfriend and am looking for fine dining recommendations for a Saturday evening meal.
I will be staying near the Acropolis so somewhere near there preferably and ideally Greek food. My budget would be roughly 200 euros.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations!
I'm going in Greece for two weeks and I am looking for a Sim(preferable an esim) with data, text and network.
I want something with good coverage,so I don't need to find ways to connect to Wifi.
Need to specify that my career has SEE tariffs(European Economic Area) but I don't have a lot of data and I don't know if I will have coverage
I know the Acropolis Museum is one of the few tourist sites open on 25 March and I believe it is free. Is it overrun with people? We can probably fit it in during our two other days in Athens but we need to fill some time on the afternoon of the 25th and thought it might be nice, unless it is just crawling with people. We wouldn’t get there before 2:15/2:30.
I see there are some gym facilities in Athens with "Planet Fitness" in the title. Would they take my US "Black Card" membership for access?
Hey there. I travel to Greece regularly and buy various goods from there. My question is about the rates.
When I went to Thessaloniki before, I shopped from Nakas and Plaisio stores. Instead of giving me a 3rd party company form like Global Blue they handed me a form of their own. They told me that they're not working with 3rd party refund companies. They handle the tax refund process themselves. All I had to do was to mail them the stamped tax free form with my IBAN after I leave Greece. And I did so. These stores refunded me the WHOLE VAT AMOUNT WHICH IS 24% via bank transfer.
This time I went Alexandroupoli. I shopped from Kotsovolos. But they gave me a Global Blue form. And they said I can get only 11% refund. I don't know where is the rest. Maybe Global Blue takes it as commission. But I shop for thousands of euros and even 10% is game changer for me. This is too much and nothing but stealing.
What I wonder is: Can I use this stamped Global Blue Tax Free Form to claim a 24% vat refund? Maybe sending the documents directly to taxing authorities etc.?
Greek Orthodox Easter aligns with the Gregorian Calendar Easter in 2025.
We plan to visit Greece around this time but wonder if we should:
a/ extend our trip to include staying for the Easter weekend celebrations
b/ fly home from Athens on Thursday 17th April to avoid any disturbances to our travel plans
c/ fly home from Athens on Saturday 19th April, to witness only Good Friday celebrations
We are a family of 5, with 3 children ages 3-11 years.
So I'll be in Athens for 4 nights at the end of March, this is my current plan, what do you think? Is it a good spread of activities, will I have enough time/too much time?

On 7/7/2024, I had a flight from Paris to Athens with Sky Express Airline. The flight delayed more than 8 hours. To get the delayed flight compansation I contacted them. They replied and asked my bank account to pay €400 compansation and told me that it will be finalized in 3 weeks. Since then I cannot reach anybody from the customer service. I sent tons of emails, replied to their first response several times. I tried to contact them through their Instagram and Facebook pages. They direct me to customer service but the customer service doesn't respond. I don't know what to do anymore. I am writing here hoping to find somebody from the same flight or from the upper management of the airline. The flight code was GQ901.
Any suggestions for this case? I don't want to pay anything to a third party company but should I go with a third party company to get this compansation? There are some companies which work on these cases on behalf of us and get some commission.
I'm going to have five full days to explore Greece. I want to spend 2 days in Athens, and then I want to drive down to Kalamata and spend some time there and in Messini. I'm trying to decide if it would be better to just drive straight there and spend 2 full days exploring that area before having to drive back to Athens, or if it would be a good idea to stop in a city along the way, like Tripoli, for a day. Does it seem feasible to spend a day in Tripoli, or would it be too much to try and fit that in 5 days?
I'm flying back to the US tomorrow at 10:10AM. I'm currently staying in Kolonaki, and will probably just get a taxi (via Uber). Will a taxi be easy to find during the early hours? There are some thunderstorm warnings that last through the AM, so I'm a bit concerned about availability. Are there other options I can consider?
We're staying in Athens and we just received an extreme weather warning on our mobiles. How serious are those? Is there anything locals do to prepare that a tourist should consider?
Edit: Thanks for the replies. It does seem it's a bit of a cultural difference in understanding what counts as 'extreme'. I hope it won't cause any significant damage no matter what - flash flooding can be horrendous as seen in Spain recently. We won't be wandering far from our hotel but won't be stressing over it either.
I’m currently planning a 2 week trip to Greece for the first part of May 2025 and I’m trying to figure out what islands to plan. I first went back in 2017 and did Athens, Santorini, and Milos so I am quite familiar with the logistics of island hopping. This will be my partner’s first trip to Greece! He’s not as big a history buff as I am so I was thinking 1 full day in Athens before we jet off to some islands. I realize Santorini is touristy, but I’d love to go back and take him. I’m thinking 2-3 days. I’d also love to take him to Milos, though I think thanks to influencers it’s now exploded compared to when I went in 2017 but I am hard pressed to pass it when it checks off so many things we love (great beaches, hiking, and adventure) so I thought 2 days in Milos and then 2 days in Kimolos? Kimolos seems quieter and since it’s easiest to get to from Milos, might as well spend a day or two there as well! I’d like to do 1 or 2 more islands with the remaining time and would love some recommendations.
I’d love to prioritize less touristy islands, with a lot of exploring/hiking options and great food as we are big foodies. Any and all recs are welcome (including on overall Itinerary!)
Also- how risky would it be to fly back to Athens from an island on the same day (midday?) we leave back to the states, if our flight was at 10pm at night? I’m thinking that would be easier than staying a night in Athens the day before but that’s what I ended up doing last time. Thanks!!
Hi! My friend and I are planning on going to Greece at the end of June until mid July! Her family has a house in Chania so we’ll be going there for a few days and then… suggestions please!
We’re both young in our mid-20s so somewhere that has young people. We do like hiking and aren’t scared of being in the mountains in the middle of nowhere! But would like to be in a city where we could go out for at least 3 days. Any suggestions on an island? We were looking into Paros, but open to anything!!
