A reddit for people who are a little bit embarrassed to listen to a Star Trek podcast.
Welcome to the Greatest Generation! For the record, most of us aren't World War II veterans. We just like Star Trek and dick jokes.
New episodes are out on Mondays (Voyager) and Tuesdays (Discovery).

Change my mind
I may have missed the origin story, and I can't find it in the list of drops.

I distinctly remember Ben saying he was on an episode of the After These Messages podcast, covering commercials about Star Trek. However, I canāt find the episode anywhere! Itās not on the wiki, itās not listed in Benās list of guest appearances on Podchaser, Iāve typed every possible Google search combination and itās not coming up!
To me, rolling a 100-sided die that lands them anywhere in the board is way less fun. I miss when they had the drama of knowing a few things are in range of the D6 roll, that there was a 1-in-6 chance of landing on a specific thing. Having everything be in range removes that.
And because I like to balance out a criticism with a compliment: āBen would rather die! / ā¦would rather d- wha?ā never fails to crack me up.
I absolutely recognize and appreciate the swings TOS took, got us where we are today, etc., but donāt find it particularly fun to watch; that said, Iāve finally figured out one thing I do actually really enjoy about it: it makes space seem spooky; the lack of constant visibility of space that would come with later series makes it feel like it takes place in a submarine in strange waters, and I think thatās cool as hell. On top of that, the softer, weirder version of sci-fi it embraced gave it kind of a haunted-planet feel on a wavelength with Conan and Northwest Smith and other āthis is our world but in a Lost Timeā stories, and I LOVE that
This has been: A Jazz-Gummy Revelation
I just wanted to make it know to who it may concern, it appears that TGG: 557 was uploaded twice on the YouTube page, the reupload being labled as episode 558, but episode duration and cover image are that of 557.
Two and a half stars. I round up to three stars because it's just over 90 minutes and I appreciate a movie that clocks in at a reasonable time these days.
I had heard all the bad reviews and saw the "this isn't Star Trek" talk and had prepared myself for something bad. It's not bad, but it's also not good, it's just a 90 minute pilot for a series that wasn't picked up. But it's fine. Watchable. I think the "this isn't Star Trek" stuff is misguided--it's a TGG truism that Star Trek is a place, and that place has room for lots of stories. This is more of an action heist than a standard Star Trek about exploration or a philosophical concept. So if you're expecting The First Duty you're not going to be happy. I also don't really agree with the "These people don't feel like Star Trek" because it's specifically and explicitly about people who don't fit into the Federation.
Not saying anyone who doesn't like it is wrong or bad. I know we have a lot of folks who have watched The Wire, this movie fits Stringer's "No one grts excited about a 40Ā° day" speech to a T, and that won't be for everyone. But I thought it was OK. I watched Twilight and Cutthroat Island for Free With Ads and The Flop House, respectively, and Section 31 was more enjoyable than both of those to me. So if you're dreading it, just turn it on and give it a try, if nothing else it's got Sam Richardson.
I have listened to almost all of these pods before, but it is truly fantastic how they all worked together to bring their unique flavor to make a celebration of Pod and Trek. SyFy Sistas may be on my listen list from now on! Great idea, Ben!
ā¦while waiting for tomorrowās episode to drop. Always good to see Military Advisor to the Pod, Dale Dye!
In "Weeaboo but for Klingons" (DS9 S4E14) about 24 minutes in, Adam realized that Trek has done nothing with the crashed saucer section of The D. Then they talk about holodeck Moriarty, who was part of an episode. Ben ended the conversation with "Maybe they'll do that in the Picard series." š³
So did they call it, or did the writers of Picard season 3 listen to this and say "GREAT IDEA!"
...I guess what I'm saying is Ben and Adam should have a consulting credit on Picard season 3! Big Rod is stealing ideas! š
Thoroughly enjoyed the review of TMP and excited to move on to WOK reviewed by Cirroc Lofton, Ryan Husk and SPECIAL GUEST WALTER KOENIG (aka Salty Walty, apparently)
ā¦the latrine situation. Is this the first time Trek addressed where people pee and poop? How nasty must it have smelled down there after a couple days?
Star Trek Reddit isā¦ hyperbolic to say the least. Would love to hear FoD takes on Section 31!
I think I generally enjoyed it for what it was. My most rudimentary critique is they absolutely should not have called it a movie. That only hurts it, because it is 100% not a movie, just a long pilot. I found myself enjoying the relationships near the end and really getting into it by the climax. Certainly things to enjoy and maybe a full show would have had some promise.
I just finished watching Section 31 this morning. Love Greatest Gen / Greatest Trek, and I'm hoping Ben and Adam are planning an episode for it. Would love to hear their comedic take. Anyone know if that's in their plans?
...
I'll take my answer by the hot dog stand.
