I’m visiting and would love to find a dark area to do some sky watching. Does anyone have any recs? Thank you!
Does anyone know where I can find one of these signs in Grand Haven or the surrounding area? Thanks!
Hello! I’m visiting Grand Haven for the next couple weeks. I’ll also be in Spring Lake.
Any must dos? My preferences • non touristy. I love to check out local/small businesses • I love food, art, being by the water, painting outside and walking the dog (preferably by the water). Also music and places to just sit and read and enjoy the water. Nature lover. •Historic/small town downtowns to walk around. •would love to find a good tea shop (vs coffee) and an art gallery/museum. I love to support local artists. •fun, funky, laid back
Thanks a million! (I LOVE Lake Michigan)
I was on Instagram the other day and came across an image of Green Day playing in Ferrysburg. Little did I know the rabbit hole I got into… by a simple search, I came across a place where punk bands played in Ferrysburg called the Animal House through their Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/p/1990-Animal-House-Shows-100067658525796/ This took place in 1990 (90s?), and held lots of gigs where punk bands from California played. As a Michigander interested in the punk scene, this intrigued me. In little old Ferrysburg? How did I not know about this? I also found a confusing bit of information, claiming that it was a skate park and immediately thought of William Ferry Park, but I doubt it would be out in the open like that. My speculation changed when I saw a hand drawn map of directions on Facebook, and it looked to be in the same area as the park. Where was this? What bands played there? If anyone has any information at all, please tell me.
Hello! My partner and I are looking into moving to the area in several months. He works remote so good reliable internet service is a must! Do you all have reliable internet?
Heads up if you're looking to rent a space - the city of Grand Haven will rent this space out from under you. So if you have an event from 5pm-9pm, don't expect to come in early to decorate because they will rent it to someone else right up to 5pm.
The staff at the building try their best, but the city only cares about money and not client experience.
Hello! I'm new to the area, and need some recommendations for an affordable reliable mechanic to take my car to. Thanks!
You made it to the weekend. Reward yourself with something fun.
Last week I shared a list of local events that I usually give out to my friends last week here on Reddit. And people loved it, so I’m keeping it going!
(I also started a free email newsletter for locals to get the latest events and happenings. You can get it here: https://caldernews.beehiiv.com )
Here are the top events happening this weekend around GH:
Friday 9/27
Saturday 9/28
Sunday 9/29
Plus, a handful of ongoing events you can go to anytime this week…
I don’t catch everything so If you have any other events to share feel free to post them below.
I’m moving to Grand Haven soon and with it being a small town not sure what to do for work. What companies/areas should I look into for good pay in sales?
Hey folks, a few months ago I started a little thing finding local events and new happening in GR - then sending it out what I thought was interesting to my friends every week.
I assume there are more busy folks out there that could get some value from the info too, so here ya go...
(Btw if you're one of those ppl you can get my GR events lists like this 3x a week as an email for free)
Anyhow, here are the top events happening this weekend around GR & Grand Haven:
Friday 9/20:
Saturday 9/21
Sunday 9/22
A couple of other events you can go to anytime this weekend…
There are a ton of other events going on too. So if you think I missed any post them below. :)
Hoping to pick up a wetsuit from a dive shop tonight. Anyone looking to surf Grand Haven State Park Beach or Hoffmaster?
We went to the beach and haven’t gotten fast food in years, we figured we’d stop by to get the kids one of those happy meal boxes. Aside from being overpriced, the place was filthy! The chicken sandwich I got myself was dripping water with every bite. The bag itself was covered in some sort of orange sticky sauce, we didn’t get straws for our drinks (didn’t realize until we were on the freeway), and the drink carrier had been soaked (and dried) in something orange in color. Is this typical of a McDonalds experience anywhere, or just here? Edit: it was actually Spring Lake where we went. We don’t go here often!
Hello! I'm 27M, and moving to grand haven this winter. I work full-time during the week, but was wondering if anyone had any local ideas of a flexible part time job I could do this winter?
So the Grand Haven State Park fb page that provides daily water conditions in the summer...is showing the water temp as 42 and literally warning of hypothermia. Has the water really "flipped" leading to this insanely cold temp? I'm heading out there tomorrow with my kiddo who has been SO excited to swim all day long...is it actually close to this temp right now? I'm getting conflicting info.
Thanks for any insight!
Is it okay to park there at night? I want to get some Milky Way shots over the lighthouse
I recently had a strange Uber experience in Grand Haven. I haven't spent much time in the town(only 4 days) and this was one of my only interactions with locals. I know the town is pretty religious but is this type of experience common in grand haven?
When my ride was coming to an end before pulling in the driveway my driver slowed down and asked, “Do you believe in god?”
I said yes since it seemed like the right answer but was a bit weirder out.
The driver then asked what religion I was.
I said I was Jewish.
The driver still slowly moving towards the driveway let me know I would be going to hell. Started going on about rapture.
I just said ok so they would shut it and drop me off.
I’m planning a weekend day trip to the beach soon and was wondering when the parking usually fills up.
Would I be good to get there at 9am/10am or should I plan on earlier than that?
