I have Verizon 5G wireless internet. I recently got a nest system and 4 nodes to extend my WIFI for movie nights in the driveway. My problem is when I go to fast.com for a speed test on my old network I am getting 100MGBS. When I do speed test on the mesh network i only get 25. Is there a fix for this? Was I supposed to change settings on my old router?
Did October's firmware update solve the speed slow downs and signal drops for you?
The firmware update ends in 17.
Hi,
My ISP supports IPv6 delegation and has given me a /48 prefix address. I can see my devices having an Ipv6 GUA assigned to them.
But I cannot reach any of the devices from Internet. I have configured port management for the devices and ports.
When I was configuring port management, I noticed that some of devices show the GUA in the Google Home app, but some devices show the Local-Link address.
Thanks
I was setting up a nest wifi router a friend wanted to use just as his front end router. I did a quick can against his external IP and noticed a lot of ports open 53, 80, 5000, 8080, 8081, 8443. This is on the router not any port forwarded setup yet.
I disabled upnp and this trimmed down to 80, 8080, 8443, 8081 but we don't want any services exposed. 8081 and 8080 are actually non-ssl http connectors that give html back: with content: Wi-Fi is paused <br> on this device. -or one is a proxy
and 8443 is a google cert.
Can these be disabled so whatever this is isn't binding to the external IP? Are all these necessary for this app UI and unavoidable? He only really needs to manage his network when he's home and already on the network.
I have a long ranch house, and my fiber connection enters on the east end, which is the location of my nest ac2200 router--the matte marshmallow style.
Problem: My home office is on the west end of the house. I currently have one access point in the middle of the house. My Mac Studio connects to the AP in 2.4 GHz mode due to the extended range.
current config.
router (laundry room) -----> AP (living room) -----> (home office)
So, my plan is to add a nest router configured as an AP to the mesh network. I'll still have the same router handling the fiber connection...but should I leave the current access point in the living room or place it at the end of the house? In other words, is there a hardware benefit to having
router -----> AP -----> router as AP
vs
router -----> router as AP -----> AP
My logic is that the two routers might have better hardware and power, and thus might better deliver signal strength to the access point. Or am I crazy and the order doesn't matter?
Hi, can someone please help me. I'm trying to connect my mobile hotspot with my laptop and it's connecting but it's saying no Internet. So, basically I'm not able to use my Internet on my laptop. Why? Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Hi peeps ! Hope your all doing good,
I've been thinking on getting some to replace a starlink router but I've been reading a lot about connection dropping constantly. Are they that bad ?
Update: I went ahead and got the Eero 6 proE , I'll let you guys know if they are any good. Thanks for all the replies, you guys have been extremely helpful and nice !
Hi, I am at the peak of my frustration, I got 3 Google Wifi routers (2016 version).
I have my service provider Router, and I connected the first Google Wifi via LAN cable to it, and set up my Wi-Fi network. This worked like a charm.
I have 2 other Google Wifi routers which I tried to add to the network to create a Mesh, and no matter what it did not work
It always saying something went wrong, I spent hours trying to solve it.
I have added the pictures on my phone to share how it looks like.
Does anyone has an idea what do to to solve it?
I've just picked up a 2 pod Google WiFi kit and not going to lie it seems pretty rubbish.
I've connected one via ethernet to my modem, and placed the other in another room in the house.
If my phone or any WiFi device connects to the one plugged into the router, it's great I get the full speed of my internet (500mbs) but if any device connects to the second pod, the one that's connected wirelessly to the first pod via the bridge, I only get about 80mbps, and it's still 80mbps if I connect to pod 2 with ethernet.
Google home reports the mesh connection as strong, is this just how it is? So in some rooms of my house I now get internet that's a quarter of the speed of my old routers wifi, if so they're going straight back to Amazon as that's just not good enough.
I have four of the Google Wi-Fi points and one nest. Would it make a difference or even matter if it was the nest managing the mesh Network or the Google. Currently the nest Wi-Fi is just added on as one of the points. While one of the four Google manages the network
We have large house so needed Google Nest set-up since WiFi extenders did nothing. Set up: xfinity modem to Google router #1 in garage. Router #1 to splitter(TL-SG105) port 1. Splitter Port 5 to Router #2 in family room. Then I have 3 Google Nests upstairs. That's our WiFi network and all devices connect to same network. I can control WiFi access on all devices HOWEVER if someone sits in one area of the house (above garage) they have access to WiFi and not limited by any schedule I set using Google home. It otherwise works to limit WiFi access throughout the rest of the house. What am I doing wrong?
I currently use T-Mobile wireless for $50/mo, which has worked fine. Rarely drops out. I live alone (retired), don't game, I watch Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc., and while I have a 'smart' TV that probably gets a beautiful picture, I don't pay T-Mobile the extra fees to see it. At the most, I may have 3-4 people using their phones at the same time when I have visitors.
When I searched, I see things about Google Fiber being better, but I think this plan is wireless wifi just as my T-mobile plan, although I do have Google Fiber wiring, I think. I also see things about Google mesh.
Keep what I have because it works or go to Google to save $20/month which I can use in my travels!
Edit: I should add that I'm in the U.S. where the internet companies are considered to be independent entities that can charge whatever they want whenever they want. Competition is supposed to regulate their prices, but as we know, often internet companies have no competition in their area.
Hi, I have google fiber in SLC, UT with google router. Sometimes the internet slows to a few MBs, then if I open the google home app on my iPhone and run the speed test, it speeds it back up until the next time it slows down again. Any idea why this keeps happening?
I'm having trouble port forwarding port 25565 on my Google Nest. When I check it through canyouseeme.org, it gives me a "Connection timed out" error.
I've turned off my firewall and set up the port forwarding in the Google Home app, but it's still not working.
It used to work fine, but after not using it for a while, it’s stopped. I’ve also tried it on other Windows PCs but had no luck.
Any advice would be appreciated!
I have to mention that I am connected to my main router via ethernet but I also have a Unifi access point
I would like hide the number of devices I have from my ISP using a VPN. However, I already have 3 google nest wifi routers on each floor of the house.
My thought is:
Basement: Modem => google router || VPN
Middle floor:
Coax port => google router
Top floor: Coax port => google router
Would this work in extending the signal from the VPN across every floor?
Hello,
I recently upgraded my Google Nest to the Google Nest Pro and noticed all my devices connected via ethernet via a switch are experiencing considerably slower speeds than before.
Before I was hitting 900mbs, now I'm only getting about 200mbps. Meanwhile wireless shows 900mbs...
This wasn't an issue with the base Google Nest.
Any help?
I bought a google nest WiFi router for $38 on amazon. Crazy good deal right? I want to add mesh nodes to extend my WiFi range and get better speed throughout my house. I’m having trouble finding node points for this specific router. I believe it’s the 1st gen. I did find a recommended purchase from amazon, but it’s $100 for one node.
I didn’t know what my best solution was. Might just accept I need to buy them for retail price.
I currently have the Google Nest WiFi Router. There is a cheap add on point available brand new, but I'm unsure if it will make a difference. My home is pretty small, essentially a two storey apartment.
I do however use a lot of smart devices, 30 lights, connected TV, Xbox, Thermostats, cameras, etc.
Will adding another point improve my network?
I have 3 nodes the main node is hardwired to the modem the other two are connected wireless but for some reason when i use a ethernet cable to one that is connected wireless it doesn't switch to wired connection . I have read quite a bit of posts of users having the same issue some say to add a unmanaged network switch and others say to do a factory reset . I know its not the ethernet cable i have tested it with other devices and it performs as it should . Does anyone know what can fix this issue ?
I have a mesh network that is "maxed" out at 5 wifi router/points but I still have weak spots. What else can I use to extend the wifi?
Hi All, seeking some advice as my google nest/wifi mesh setup has been having issues since Thursday last week (17th Oct).
My set up includes:
This set up has been working flawlessly for the last couple of years providing reliable coverage to all my devices around my house. I do have a lot of connected devices with laptops, pcs, consoles, sonos speakers, homepods, smart lights, etc.
As mentioned, since Thursday last week we started very brief loss of internet on our computers that would cause drops in Teams or Zoom video calls as well as disconnects in online gaming. This happened across 1 windows laptop, 2 macbooks and a window pc (all connected via wifi). The wifi connection itself would not drop but just briefly lose internet for perhaps 5 seconds and then come good again. It happens every 10-15 minutes so pretty constant. Switching to using mobile data as a hotspot from my phone showed no issues so I knew it was my home wifi or internet connection and not any of the devices themselves. We haven’t had any issues streaming (netflix, etc) services as I assume streaming buffers mean such a small loss of internet doesn’t impact the stream.
To try and determine whether it was an internet problem or mesh network issue I tried the following today:
All the google nest and wifi devices are on the latest versions of software (and the newest version was released after I started having issues so can’t blame that).
Short of reseting the whole system (which will be an absolute pain) is there any other troubleshooting suggestions or things I can do to investigate what is going on?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Hi all
Woke up this morning and my Google WiFi has stopped working
Blinking Orange/yellow light flashing. Unplugged for about an hour plugged back in and still the same
Tried hard reset to factory and it won’t do it
Any ideas? Shall I just buy a new router?
Hi all, I searched but couldn't find a specific answer from prior posts. I have Xfinity cable and have my own supplied Arris Surfboard s33v2 and Nest WiFi Pro 6E. I have a 2 story condo. Xfinity has the dual coax coming out of the wall (internet and cable tv.) I have my 2nd Nest puck in my office below the modem which is in my living room. There is another coax jack in the office. I purchased the Hitron MoCA 2.5 Adapter for Ethernet Over Coax | 2.5 Gbps (2 pack) and was hoping to use that to boost my wifi signal.
I cant find info on the surfboard to see if it can handle moCA. Any thoughts? Also, can I run the moCA upstairs to the main Nest node then from the wall downstairs to the second nest node to boost WiFi? We hard wire a computer into that 2nd node as well in our office so was wondering if I leave the wifi alone and just run the moCA into the docking station (ethernet connection) to increase speeds.
I am very new to this and could use some basic help if possible.
Thank you
I have cable/internet coming into my living room. That is where my modem is. I have Google Mesh upstairs. I have the 2nd node in the room below the living room and another cable coax outlet in that room too. Here is what I am thinking. I know you said I have to isolate my coax but that coax junction box is in another room in a closet with no power outlets. Would this work?
Hello All.
I have Nest WiFi Pro (G6ZUC) that I'm currently using as both router and AP, connected to a Spectrum Arris cable modem. I want to put a Mikrotik router in between the modem and the Nest WiFi Pro. So if I do this, all the routing will be done by the Mikrotic and the Nest should only act as an AP.
Is this possible? I've been looking at the settings in the Google Home app and I'm not sure exactly which options I'd have to change. I generally do ok with networking stuff but I'm a little puzzled by this device.
Any pointers? Thanks!
i have the non-pro version of google wifi and a decent 140mbs ISP. Ihave a complex wired/wireless mesh network with 4 WAPs.
i understand how i can prioritise my device for 8 hours to have maximum speed.
how can I permanently limit/throttle other devices eg for kids streaming or downloading games.
I appreciate there is no easy way to do this. but perhaps there might be a way to, for example, use the guest network or set the ssid connection type to exclude N and 5GHz connection types?
thank you
Is it possible to disable the yellow issue status light? I know In the menu it says it blinks even when off, but it woke me up yesterday in my dark room. Seems like a big oversight
Is anyone else's nest wifi disconnecting? Like every 5 to 10 minutes devices will disconnect and reconnect.
So I have the 3 wifi points system (AC1200 Routers, Model No. AC-1304).
I have a mini router that was supplied by my security camera company which connects to the cameras on it's own network. Right now it is plugged in directly to my Eero router, and it's located on the opposite corner of the doorbell camera screen. I'm pretty sure this is the reason the signal the camera screen is super low which is making the video super laggy.
I'm want to connect the 3 Google WiFopods around the house: one by the modem, one upstairs and the other by the camera screen.
I was wondering if it's ok to hard wire the mini router supplied by the security company into the second pod and still have the 3rd pod upstairs work wirelessly.
Or will hardwiring the second wireless pod to the mini router interrupt the signal from that second pod to the 3rd wirelss pod upstairs??
Can I connect this way and still have all my pods work correctly????
Want to know if anyone knows if this will work before I go through the hassle of removing my current router and installing my whole Google WiFi mesh system
I have 2 Nest Wifi routers with one being used as a point. The Nest router is connected to a Xfinity gateway (XB4. Arris TG1682G) set to bridge mode.
This setup has been working great for 3 years. Recently we received a notice that Xfinity was performing upgrades in our area and after the work was done we started having the network drop off/on every 1-5 minutes. I would get DNS errors and then no internet. This happens over wired or wireless connections to the Nest router.
assumed that Comcast had screwed something up, but their checks showed no issues on the line. I started going down the troubleshooting rabbit-hole and ended up factory resetting the Xfinity gateway. Service then worked normally, even with the Nest wifi. However, once I set it back to bridge mode, the same issues came up.
I tried everything suggested by Dan_A here, including changing the DNS through Home: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/internet-troubleshooting-tips/602dae4ac5375f08cde52ea0
Any ideas what is going on here? I performed a factory reset of the Google Nest routers and it was the same problem.
