So, I have two Google accounts. I want to cut it down to one.
One thing I'll have to do is download all photos from one account to local computer and then reupload it to Google Photos in another account.
My question is, will I lose anything? I'm talking more about metadata, etc.
We used to have a combined "friends and family" folder that auto-added photos of us and the kids from my wife's and my accounts.
My wife created a new Google account (in the UK) last year, and we've since lost the ability to do this.
On my wife's account, she no longer has the option to auto-add people to a folder. I believe this is a region-specific issue with EU laws. I'm sure she could do this with her old Google account. I also setup my Google account in the UK, but it's quite an old account so for whatever reason I can auto-add people to folders.
We've setup partner-sharing this morning and I can choose to auto-save her photos of just us and the kids in the partner-sharing settings
On my phone/account any photos I take of the kids are correctly added to the "friends and family" folder.
I can view her photos via "collections > wife's photos", but her photos of the kids don't appear in my camera roll and aren't automatically added to the existing "friends and family" folder.
Has anyone else managed to make this work with European Google accounts?
Hi everyone,
I’m using Google Photos on my Galaxy S21+ to manage my photos, which I take in HEIC format.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the app is extremely slow when it comes to displaying HEIC photos that are stored locally on my phone, while photos not on the device display almost instantly.
For example, when I scroll quickly through the library, I see photos NOT stored on the phone load instantly, but locally stored HEIC photos appear as grey squares for a few seconds before the correct thumbnails load.
This issue only happens with HEIC photos, not with JPGs.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Have you found any solutions?
Does anyone know how to like unsync a BUNCH of photos from an incorrect Google photos account ??? I had been switching through Google accounts on Google photos , and recently had to log in on my phone for a school related project . Today I looked in my school account in Google photos and found out all of my PHOTOS are in it . Idk what to do
I have about 25 albums on Google Photos, mostly on there to share with friends (makes for easy collabs)
Now at some point, my phone has automatically enabled auto backup on Google Photos.
So I disabled auto backup and went ahead and deleted all the photos listed, trying to get rid of all the unwanted pics it auto backed up. IN ADDITION TO THOSE PICS, its gone ahead and deleted all the photos from every album I have on Photos.
SERIOUSLY FUCK THIS APP. Tons of photos removed, and will have to manually re-added to those albums. My hatred for this fucking app is boundless.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD AUTO BACKUP get automatically turned on.
Google Photos used to have a checkmark to show you what had already been backed up. My phone settings aren't in my native language so maybe I'm missing something but it appears to have disappeared in recent days/weeks. I wonder if this is to encourage me to automatically back up everything so I can pay for storage.
Hey guys needing some help here,
So I have thousands of photos going back many years and they're all obviously very important too me. Ever since last week I had never opened Google Photos before and all my photos had always been stored locally on my devices storage.
I saw that GP backs up your photos so, thinking this was a good idea I choose to do it. They all backed up until the storage was full. When I went to look at my local gallery on my phone this morning I'm missing 2/3 of my photos and they have all been moved into GP. Another issue I have is that I won't be able to receive any emails after a certain date because my google storage is full. I know I can individually download every photo but this will take forever, I also know I can do a Google Takeout but I have also read that many people have lost lots of data doing so.
So my question is; Is there any other way to reverse this situation? I.e getting all my photos back on my devices local storage and also removing them from GP so I can still use my email (deactivating Google Photos)
My device is a Samsung S24
I’ve been thinking about backing up my photo library, and Google Photos is super convenient. But I’ve read a few things about potential privacy concerns, and it has me second-guessing if it’s the right choice.
Google says they don’t use our photos for ad targeting, but they still collect tons of data. Has anyone noticed or felt uneasy about how much they could theoretically aggregate from our photos?
Hi, I have a question that I have not been able to answer on Google.
If I delete a photo from Google photos, it deletes from my gallery app as well. This is fine.
However, when I delete a photo from my gallery app, it does * not * delete from Google photos. I wish it did. Is this possible?
I dont understand how it can go one way and not the other. Please eli5 any solutions :)
Ty!
I am having this issue with my new Google pixel 9- the other tabs of the camera app work and do not keep showing this bug. I took a photo after this and same thing, keeps forcing back to most recent image. I have restarted my phone 3 times, tried force stop, cleared my cache, and have made sure the app is updated. Any help? Thanks!
Hello all, I'm just above the 200GB mark and id like to stay on the 200GB plan. I have a lot of video that take up space - I use pixel products so a lot of my photos are "free"
Is there a way to downgrade certain video to save space (without downloading, reducing, re-up loading etc...)
Should I move my videos to another service and if so, any suggestions?
Thanks in adavnce
I was cleaning up my laptop and decided to upload all my photos from before the smartphone era (taken on digital cameras and transferred to my laptop, or scanned from printed photos onto my laptop) to google photos. There were about 100 GB worth of photos and videos on my laptop. After the upload, the storage on my google account was not changed at all (I have google one 2TB plan and use about 400 GB of it). I expected my storage to have gone up by 100 GB, but there was no change at all.
Does this mean that if you are close to the 15 GB limit for free accounts, you can turn off google photos backup from the phone, transfer the photos to a laptop at some regular interval, and upload them to photos from the laptop to get around the 15 GB cap?
So i have two accounts set up for partner sharing, only one shares photos to the other. Yesterday i found out that the photos i imported from my camera is not shared throught partner sharing to my partner's account, but all photos taken on the device itself is having no issues. I tried scrapping the info data from the photos from my camera and they shared fine. Is it a new thing that i missed or is photos broken again?
Basically I can't send or recieve emails anymore because my photos are taking up all my google storage. Deleting them off GooglePhotos also deletes them off my device though which I don't want. I don't need all my pictures in 2 different places though, I only got google photos to make albums to share with android friends. How do I get around this so I can use my email again and not have to pay for storage upgrade?
Sometimes I'll download videos or photos back to back but ones spawns much lower than the other. The same thing happeneds when I lock them in the folder
I have removed all the photos from my phone and put them in my PC. I want to copy them back to my phone but I want google photos map feature to show them. Is there a way to import them to the app?
thanks
I need to remove someone from all albums that are shared with them. But I have hundreds of albums and don't want to go through them one by one.
Is there a way to search my albums / shared albums to find which ones are shared with Person A?
The album list when I try to add a photo used to be in the order where the last photo is added. Now, IDK what the fuck is this order. What can I do to rearrange them back to what it was before?
[SOLVED]
After years of locally backing up my pictures and videos, I've finally decided to take the leap towards cloud back up on Google drive. I expanded my storage to 100 GB and started the back up process on my Pixel 7.
Problem is, it's taking freaking forever. It took 12 hours to back up about 1000 pictures, with 5000 still to go. These are the solutions I've tried so far but with no luck:
Any other possible solutions I might have missed?
Edit: I have a pretty stable internet connection at 110 mbps/45 mbps. Never had an issue uploading large files.
I know this app was discontinued, but still using it over the years.
So I just started using the 'soften' effect in photos, but once I save the photo or save a copy, the effect disappears and doesn't save. For any of you who are still familiar with the app, have you experienced this too with some of Picasa's effects, and any way around it?
Bonus question for photographers- any idea how to replicate that 'soften' effect in Photoshop? It's not just a simple blurring of sharpness, it seems to soften, blur/fade, and soften colors too, giving it some glow and a more filmic feel. Pictures attached.
Thanks so much!
I have three Google accounts on my phone one of them being my school account. Safe to say I would like it to not sync to my photos to a school account. How do I stop it from syncing to all account?
I was deleting some photos and noticed a difference. I was just curious if they do different actions or not. Obviously, when you have photos in your trash you can empty it and it’s supposed to permanently delete right? But if you select specific ones then there’s a permanently delete option. I might be sounding dumb but I’m just not great with technology and just want to make sure if they do the same thing or if there’s a difference. I also want to add that I did it off a computer so does it get deleted on all devices linked to it as well such as a phone?
My account shows google photos took 99% of my 15GB google storage. Then I went ahead and deleted some large videos. I see space cleared and became around 13GB. After a while I see again it became 15GB. What could be the reason of this? I am not backing up my mobile photos to google also. I do not see any new photos on my account and deleted photos are not there either. Then what is taking up the space again?
Apple's iPhone 16 series allows users to apply or change Photographic Styles to photos after they've been taken. But I just noticed that Google Photos does not have support for photographic styles on (at least on the Storage Saver mode). Essentially, when I download a photo taken on a iPhone 16 from Google Photos on the iPhone 16, it loses the ability to have Photographic Styles applied on it.
Is there a work around to it?
Hey everyone,i'm thinking of buying an old pixel phone that can still has the ability to upload unlimited pictures. which google pixel phone can i buy ? i heard something about it but i am not sure which pixel exactly?
Putting photos and videos into locked folder is fine. But when I unlock them (bring out of locked folder, while they are still stored in device and backed up.), the photos and videos are randomly sorted in the file explorer or any other gallery app. makes me have to use Google photos primarily to see photos in order which they were clicked. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS
I have an honor x8 and Google photos 2TB deal but my phone keeps running out of storage, I keep going to the Google photo options and clicking 'free up space from device' but I run out again not long after and have to do it again. Unfortunately it's causing problems because it's cutting my videos midway due to the storage running out. Is there any way I can clear all of the videos off of my device but keep them on Google photos so that I don't have to 'free up space from device' so often? Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Many thanks, God bless
Hello. I am download my google photos content through google takeout. Google sent me links for 69 files with 2GB each.
Everything seemed fine until the file 66, which contatin a differente name pattern as is a single mp4 file.
I believe I need to extract all 69 files at once, as a block, but now I don't know how it is going to behave.
Is that normal, what should I do?
I am attaching an image containing the file names. As you can see, all other files begin with "takeout", followed by a timestamp and the number, then in jumps from 65 to 67 and 66 is this single mp4 file, which is a video from an unboxing I did.
Thank you in advance for any help.
I know that I probably am over thinking this but it’s like for sure that all my photos will be saved here if I delete from device? I need storage space but can’t lose my pictures
I didn't know that google photos will used up all the space I have left in my ggogle one memory which I wanted to not use those spaces to upload my photos in there. How do I get those spaces back?
