My old phone can turn on but the screen is damaged so I can't do anything on it. I have many photos saved in the gallery and I was wondering if I turn on syncing on my new phone, would it turn on my old one? The wifi on that phone is always turned on so I know It's connected to the internet and I have google photos on that phone, will syncing the app on my new one also sync the old one with the app?
From time to time I upload some of my home camera video to my google photos cloud. Suddenly all new videos are going into the "Unsupported videos" and not being processed. There was no change in the encoding of those videos. Any way to fix this?
After using Google Photos exclusively across my iOS devices since launch, I recently imported everything (20k worth) into iCloud. This worked better than expected and finally allowed me to get my photo library into the Apple ecosystem.
Since that import about a month ago, I've been using the Photos mac app to clean up and curate my library (with help from some 3rd party apps). I've cut down the number of photos by nearly 5k! GP doesn't know to delete those photos, obviously.
What's the best way to get them back in sync? Delete everything out of GP and start a fresh sync?
As of now iCloud is my photo library of record - my canoncial set of photos. GP is a backup and used for the various digital photo frames I have around my house.
I've recently started using the Google Photos app on my iPhone after doing some research for the best facial recognition cloud storage however I'm struggling to get the app to recognise faces.
I know it can take a while to process through all the photos you back up & I definitely don't expect it to be completed over night but it's been a couple of weeks now and it still hasn't recognised a large number of different faces.
I tried searching for how to manually add tags but it seems this isn't an option for those in the EU, however I'm wondering why it isn't available for the UK as we're no longer part of the EU due to Brexit?
All I've been able to find online so far is instructions on how to add/remove tags on photos that have already been auto-detected but nothing on photos that haven't had faces recognised. For example, I have a very clear group photo of 3 people but it has only auto-detected 1 face and I seem to have no way of manually adding the other 2 faces.
It has been amazing so far at detecting faces that are obsecure or partially hidden, even the back of people's heads in that aspect the AI is brilliant but it's really frustrating that I can't continue organising my photos due to the auto-face detection letting the app down or the fact that I can't simply manually add tags like I can on Amazon Photos and this feature seems to be pretty basic considering we've had the likes of manual face-tagging on Facebook etc for years now. It's really disappointing and frustrating that such a simple functionality is letting down such a popular app by a leading company in the global market!
Hello
I hope someone can help me. I just opened Google Photos, and checked "Albums". I could then see there was some very old shared albums from 2017ish and 2018ish. These albums was "iPhone Giveaway" and "Amazon Gift Card Giveaway". I have never clicked on any links... The albums seems like it was shared "with me". One i think was from a friend, i talked with a long time ago (Their Google Account was hacked at one ´point)
And i think the other was "Linus Tech Tips"? lol? I reported them as "spam" and it "left" the albums.
I can see some have had similiar happen at https://support.google.com/photos/thread/336911?hl=en&msgid=1076643
I am a little worried, as i never clicked on anything. And my account seems to be fine etc. I am nearly sure i did not see them a while ago last i checked... But they did mention those years, so i take they was old, and i just missed them somehow.
Anything i can do? I have checked my account/security etc, and nothing seems wrong. Always have had 2fa etc etc on. According to the website, it seems like other experienced it too. I am just worried i missed something.
Thanks :)
For some reason when I view my images on google photos on my laptop they are terrible quality, but when I look at the same photos on my phone they look great. The same goes for downloading, when I download from my laptop they come out bad but from my phone, they look fine. I double checked the backup settings and it's set for original quality. Has anyone had this issue and found a solution?
I like to make a yearly photobook using a third-party app, and I usually create an album of my favorite photos from that year.
However, when I download the google album to my computer, the images lose their order from the album and are all jumbled up.
Does anyone know how to fix this without having to re-order hundreds of images manually?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
I got the P5 when it came out and have been using it up until about a week ago. I set the backup to saver so everything should be free, but my photo storage shows 1.5gb used. When I click on the Large pics and Videos I see the ones that go against my storage. Does anyone know why that happened to a set of pics and videos? I even ran the "convert pics/videos to saver" option and still those few are over 5MB and go against the storage. It's weird because they are all from the same trip a few years back and they aren't in sequence, just random throughout that trip.
Note: I didn't just notice this. It's been like this since the trip 2 yrs ago. Just never got around to post about it.
TIA
I have recently been experiencing a problem with Google Photos where after I edit a photo it jumps all the way back to my most recently taken photo instead of staying with the old one. This makes editing a bunch of older photos an extremely time consuming process since I have to keep scrolling back to find where I was. Has anyone experienced this and found a fix? TIA!
I downloaded a photo from Gmail on October 26 and Google Photos dated it October 2. I've tried to manually change the date to the correct October 26 but it always reverts back to October 2.
Today, I deleted that photo and redownloaded it from Gmail. At first it has the correct date (today) but then it goes back October 2 again. I still can't manually change the date either.
Any help would be much appreciated.
UPDATE: This was in the app (Android) and I did a force stop and clear cache and that seems to have fixed the issue. I was at least able to manually change the date and this time it stayed. Still some weird glitches happened with duplicates, but I was able to delete those.
Hi, my iPhone records videos in MOV format and Google backup in MOv format which is taking significant space. How do I convert the MOV in Google photos to mp4 format
Why do my screenshots not show up in the main list of photos?
Help
Hi there, i have updated my library, which is now 40k pictures. For some reasons:
Hi! I have Pixel 7 and every time I open Google Photos App, thumbnails are reloading/recreating.
Do you have same experience?
If I scroll down, let's say, photos from last month, thumbnails are generated—they take some seconds to do. Then it's okay until I close the app. If I reopen the app, the situation is the same. No thumbnail is saved. Everything is created from scratch.
It is a worse scrolling experience than on my old Samsung S8+ phone.
Somebody with same problem? any idea how to solve it?
I got an email saying my google drive storage was full and I would not be able to use my email soon but 90 % of the saved files are google photos back up that I don’t use. I’ve turned off backup but all of the saved files are still there. Can I delete this backup? I pay for iCloud storage so I don’t need google backup as well and do not want to pay for extra storage.
Just got a Pixel 9. I have to edit hundreds of photos daily. After I edit a photo, approximately 85% of the time it will not save right away. I have to wait a few seconds. This is driving me crazy and taking time I don't have. Does anyone know what could cause this? These are photos I take a half hour or more before editing, so its not a processing issue or anything like that. Not a touch sensitivity issue either. The save button just doesn't work until a few seconds pass. I upgraded from a 7 Pro and never had this issue. I want to see if this can be fixed before I return the phone. Appreciate any help.
Hello, I've been trying to organize some photos and a lot of them will have someone in them, but the app refuses to recognize they are a person and I cannot tag them as in the photo. For example there's one group photo where 2/6 of the people in it are recognized as people. Is there any way to manually override this?
I am a photographer and use google photos to store all of my photos. Right now I have somewhere around 36,000 but I forgot where to check that so if someone could tell me that would be great. Anyway I am going through them and deleting several thousand and I know which ones I have stored by now.
However, when I search for something specific like "abstract photo", the AI brings up photos in my library that I have never seen before but I remember taking years and years ago. But I can only see these "hidden" photos if I make random searches.
So, how do I access these photos? Do I just need to keep deleting more until they show up in the library? Pls help!
I post on their support page. I post using feedback link in the app. I post here on reddit.
but zero.
is google going to kill this app and that's why they don't care?
certinly feels like it to me
I keep running out of storage space because my Google photos doesn't delete the photos that I delete in my gallery, is there anyway for it to automatically delete them or reset Google photos so it only has the photos saved from my gallery?
Hi,
Is anyone having this issue. Recently I've created a few collages on Google Photos via the web; I noticed that although they show up on my phone, they are not actually ON my phone - I've done a filename search under the local storage (Pixel) and those collages are NOT found.
Is this not a thing that synchronizes back to the mobile? I find this a bit ridiculous. If create a collage on my phone, it will sync to the cloud GP, however the other way is not the case?
Anyone have insight on this?
TY
May be stupid question but where can I locate all shared album on app? I can see all on desktop but can't seem to find on app.
I'm trying to get 20K photos out of Google and into Apple Photos. Nothing wrong with Google Photos but ran out of space and already pay for extra storage in iCloud so trying to consolidate. Anyway, I see there are several options and I'm not actually sure what is the best, most reliable approach. Does anyone have actual experience moving a large-ish library from Google to Apple Photos?
Options I see
Challenges I see - Checkout splits the files into multiple Zip files with overlapping folder structure across the zips. In addition the metadata is in separate json files. I can manually merge all the folders but I'm not quite sure how to deal with the json.
Use the Checkout "Transfer" feature. Checkout has an option where you can login to iCloud and Google will supposedly move everything over. This sounds great and super easy if it works and doesn't miss anything. I've seen some posts where people talk about missing files or errors when doing the manual process and so I'm concerned there wouldn't be any error reporting or transparency in this process.
3rd party - I saw this site today while researching https://cyme.io/avalanche-for-apple-photos/. The fact that this even exists gives me pause about options 1 and 2. I don't know anything else about Avalanche but the page implies the manual export import process is error prone.
So, does anyone have any experience with these different options and advice on the best way to move forward. I'm most concerned about losing photos or videos and not knowing that they weren't transferred.
Thx
When I tried to get this answer online, it was incredibly vague. My drive storage is very full, and it's mainly because of my google photos, but its photos that seem to be from my phone camera roll. I bet in the past I probably synced my camera roll to google photos by accident. And the most updated it is from August 2022. I want to delete the photos but I'm worried that I'll delete them on my camera roll. To my knowledge, I've stopped any syncing but I'm not sure.
If anybody could give me a straight forward answer on my query that would so awesome. I just want my storage back bruh
I love the ability to stabilize footage on my phone. This is a fairly CPU intensive task to put on a mobile device so I'm grateful for having it. My only problem is I find that well over half of the time it goes too far and leaves the footage with the warped jello look. We need a way to dial the effect back in my opinion.
Hey guys, I am trying to keep my photos in order by date but google photos is changing the names of my photos if I edit one. So then I have everything in order, and an errant file with a different name, so it's no longer in sequence. I need the photos in order, because I take photos for work and the first shot is an object, and second shot is the close up. They need to be in that order, and they're not.
They're in order in my photos account, they're in order when I move them to an album, but they're not in order when I download.
Help!
I was previously able to send it to the shadow realm, aka hide album so then it only was available as a shared link. I note now with the recent updates that all shared links have been moved to the alert bell icon and within Albums I can only sort by "All" "My Albums" and "Shared with Me". Because I created it, the album shows up in "My Albums", when I don't want it to show up anywhere at all. I just want it to live on as a link. The only options left to me are "rename" "share" "delete". The first two don't help and "delete" makes the album disappear for everyone including removing any photos they shared. I don't have a need for the album anymore, but some people only save albums rather than the photos. Why has this functionality been removed? Is the only option left to me to delete the album others might still want? The feature just existed and now it's gone.
Example: I have a shared album called "afternoon walk" that was made so my friends and I could share some photos together. However, most of my albums are large compilation albums and I do not need a little one-off album taking up space in my albums. I wanted to just "hide" "afternoon walk", but now all I can do is delete it, I don't want to do that because then my friends that still need it will lose it. If this was only one album like this, I'd just sacrifice it, but I currently have a lot of shared albums as well as some of the Faces albums that are in my Albums now rather than hidden.
If anyone has any insight on what I can do or if it's just up to the Google gods to bring back their own functionality, I'd love to hear it.
TL;DR shocker: google removed built-in functionality that was useful and now I'm left trying to figure out how to organize my albums.
