I thought I would check in with a one year review on my Parkhurst Rust Waxy Richmond boots.
My original review can be found here: Initial Impression: Parkhurst Rust Waxy Richmond.
These were my second pair of GYW boots. My first were a pair of Thursday's that haven't gotten much wear. My collection includes: Thursday Captain Brandy, these Parkhursts, Grant Stone Calf Cap Toes, Parkhurst Smooth Brown Allens, Parkhurst Natural Horsebutt Delawares.
I love the fit of Parkhurst boots, and have bought a few of them. These are on the 602 last and almost the perfect fit. If they were the 602M I bet they would have been perfect. They are my most worn boots.
I wear them casually: some chores, every weekend, some weekdays. Days and evenings. They are comfortable and I love the way that they look.
I'm Canadian and I bought them to be worn in any weather. These aren't winter boots, but I wanted something that I could wear in rain and snow for my commute or day-to-day. My concern was always salt, and this waxed weather lets me wipe salt off easily after casual wear.
I rewaxed them in the middle of the winter last year using some Otter Wax and a hair dryer. They were completely dark brown after the rewax. it didn't lake long for the rusty undertone to come back where the boot flexes, but the toes stayed dark brown for months and missed the rest on the toe caps. My one mistake was letting my boots sit in the boot tray overnight on a day when my girls brought in their boots and filled it right up with salty snow/water. My heel stack soaked in salty water overnight. This seeped into my heel stack, resulting in some swelling and discolouration. I had to clean them with vinegar and salt water and then used saddle soap to make sure it was all out. The salt came out. I conditioned the heel stack (which I wouldn't usually do), and then polished to bring the colour back.
I love the leather. It felt a bit stiff for the first week, but has since become my most flexible comfortable leather. It has taken the shape of my foot and gives me great support and flexibility. The red/rust undertones are beautiful and I love seeing them shine through.
Maintenance: I brush them about once per week to get the dirt off, but I don't want to bring a shine to the wax. I brush and wipe down the heel stack and exterior midsole leather regularly. I polish over dings and scuffs on the leather around the sole and heel stack and sometimes add otter wax for extra protection in the winter.
The sole is starting to show some wear, especially need the toes where the lug seems to be wearing down quicker than the rest o the boot, but I've still got some life a year later.
Overall, after a year with lots of wear, I love these boots. I'm looking forward to another winter with them and many more years overall.
Hey Y'All! I'm back again with another boot review. This time it is the RM Williams The Gardner in black greasy kip leather.
Purchase- I purchased these in 2019 at the RM Williams store in Austin, Texas. They had quite a few pairs to try on. The store staff was great. I tried on boots for probably around an hour before landing on this boot. It was between this boot and an older boot that is no longer sold that is most similar to the Chestnut Comfort Yearling the boot I was looking at had a higher heel and a leather sole. I decided on the Gardner because it seemed like a boot that I could do anything in and not really worry about.
Size- I went with the equivalent of a US 8.5D. The fit is a touch snug. If I were to purchase these boots again I would go with the equivalent of a US 9D.
Comfort- These boots are very comfortable. I have worn them on trips to London, Chicago, New Orleans, NYC etc. They are a great boot for walking a long distance. They look classy enough to go anywhere. They also get worn at the horse barn quite a bit. They look similar enough to a paddock boot.
Sole- These have a rubber sole that reminds me of a Vibram V700. The sole has held up great. It has plenty of grip in most circumstances.
Leather- This is an excellent struck though black leather. It is pretty greasy, but it does not have any pull-up. I condition them a few times a year with Obernauff's. I also use a horsehair brush on them after I wear them.
General thoughts- I love these boots. They next to my White's Semi Dress and Alden Indy boots these are my go to boots. Most weeks I will cycle between these three pairs of boots. I like these boots because they pair pretty well with all of my jeans and with some slacks and chinos as well. I prefer to wear them with pants with a more tapered leg. I would buy these boots again without hesitation.

Please fill out the survey form if you want to participate. I will be going through to confirm that everyone signed up is a "regular user" and may reach out to you - I just want to minimize the chance people will go giftless.
If you sign up but do not send a gift, you will be gifted the "scrooge flair" and might receive coal or a pair of these in the mail.
I will be using Elfster to help facilitate the exchange, so your match will ultimately be emailed to you by Elfster.
Once I confirm the list, you will be "invited" to join our group on Elfster by email and will fill out a profile on Elfster with information such as your shipping address.
Then Elfster will match everyone up accordingly. On there, we’ll have a discussion page where you can fill out the questionnaire from past years' GYW SS, but Elfster also has a feature where you can anonymously message your match and ask them other questions to figure out what they might like!
Note, this is tentatively only open to North American residents due to high international shipping costs and restrictions.
That's the gist of it, please ask any questions here or DM myself or comment. Let's get gifting.
I've been looking for a more casual boot to wear for the rest of fall/winter. I came across the Grant Stone Diesel and Parkhurst Allen from this sub. This post won't be a full review or comparison between the two, but I wanted to post some pictures and share some brief thoughts in case anyone is deciding between these two boots.
Sizing: I have the Grant Stone in a 7.5D and the Parkhurst in a 7.5. To me, both fit similarly. I am a Brannock 9B, so I have relatively narrow feet. My favorite shoes are Common Projects, which I wear in a size 40. I wear a 9 in Nikes.
Construction/Quality: I'll let the pictures speak for this mostly. Both look and feel like quality products to me. One thing I noticed is that the Parkhurst boots are quite light compared to the Grant Stone.
Shape: At first glance, these look very similar, but to me, this is what differentiates these boots the most. The Parkhurst 618 last has a shape that I absolutely love. The toe is slightly more almond-shaped, and by the ball of the foot, they are slightly wider. To me, this just makes the boot look really sleek. I mentioned my favorite shoes are Common Projects, and I've tried various similar shoes but always come back to the CPs because I have yet to find a shoe with the same shape. To me, the shape of these boots has achieved a special look that I have not seen elsewhere.
Which ones am I keeping? I got the Grant Stone first and thought I would definitely be keeping them. Now that I have both, I am definitely keeping the Parkhurst. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep both, but to be honest, I don't really see a situation where I would choose the Grant Stone over the Parkhurst. That’s not to say there is anything wrong with the Grant Stone boots, just that I personally prefer the Parkhurst. I absolutely love the color of the Storm Kudu but may prefer to wait and see if Parkhurst decides to make the Allen Stitchdown in a similar color in the future.

I’ve been a long time Summer wearer of “boat shoes” with moccasin construction, but I recently bought two pairs of true moccasin boots and they are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn.
Here is a pair of 9.5D Russell Moccasin Backcountry boots in Walnut Timberjack leather with Vibram Roccia soles and a 10E pair of Rancourt Baxter boots in chromexcel. For reference my Brannock size is 10D and both boots fit as I like it with some room for my toes.
The RMs took 14 weeks to arrive and the construction is beautiful with straight seams and even stitching. The leather is soft, but the whole boot is tough and I’ll use them for wet and winter weather.
The Rancourts and lighter weight and great for fall and traveling. I bought them on sale for a third of the price of the RMs. They were the only footwear I took on a recent trip overseas and they were so comfortable I basically forgot about them.
I own several pairs of RW that took me a while to break in, although my RW moc toes are still an issue as I have them in 9.5D and they are too narrow and I’ll always be reaching for the true moccasins from now on. The Iron Rangers and Blacksmiths will still be in my rotation, but honestly I prefer moccasin construction for the comfort and it’s also nice that the moc toe is actually integral to the structure of the boots and not mostly cosmetic.
