This is a place for the heretical, godless, women of the world. We're atheism's better half.

Description:

This community is for women who are atheists and skeptics. Topics range from highlighting accomplishments of atheist women to the dangers of religion for women. I believe that more women will come out into the open with a subreddit like this.

Rules

Men are welcome. This is not the place to bash men.

This is not the place for group-think. We all have our own opinions and experiences. We may agree or disagree on different things. But, this is not the place where you should get indoctrination. You will not be banned because your opinion is different from the moderators' opinions. Be respectful of others and support your opinions with evidence.

Anyone who engages in misogyny, misandry, homophobia, transphobia, or otherwise hateful or disrespectful commentary here will be banned. You can be critical without insulting. Most of us are adults; let's act like adults.

I am against most censorship. However, content that is not appropriate for this subreddit will be removed. Others may be down-voted to oblivion. And, please don't feed the trolls; just report them. Thank you.

For those who thought I should have added other women to the Godless Women banner, I do apologize. Computer screens are only so big. But, if you would like to share awesome quotations or events, etc. from other Godless, hell-bound women, please feel free to post them.

Hello everyone, helping a friend with her research!

https://nonreligiousidentities.com/

What are women's opinion about the sexual assault accusations constantly appearing in the atheist community?

I think the female atheists should speak out against these mass amounts of false accusations of sexual assault in the atheist community. Atheists like Richard Carrier, Neil Degrass Tyson, Michael Shermer and David Silverman are having their careers ruined over baseless allegations. This is what the crazy women accusing them are sound like https://soundcloud.com/rebecca-vitsmun/sets/originals

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to honor the women who have been bringing solidarity through physical, spiritual, and virtual outlets. It is a day to reflect on the work that still remains, knowing that women have fought to be heard. It reminds us to look beyond our borders and to think about how we can make future progress daily. Women in the UAE have found ways to celebrate their hard work together every year and are joining activists around the world to be part of a message that is told tomillions of young girls of different cultures and backgrounds.

The UAE has focused on empowering women since its founding day on the 2nd of December 1971. Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bin Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), has shown her support for Emirati women through her wise leadership and humanitarian work. Sheikha Fatima, also known as the “Mother of the UAE”, has drawn Arab, regional, and International attention thanks to her commitment to place Emirati women where they deserve to be.

The country has enabled its women to occupy leadership roles in the government and private sectors. Being part of its development plans has helped them attain a key and successful role through political empowerment programmes launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is with the help of programmes such as these that Emirati women have taken on senior and professional positions in the country as ministers, speakers, judges, doctors, engineers, and soldiers.

“Women are the sisters of men, and there is no difference between them, as they are partners in the nation’s advancement and prosperity,” the late Sheikh Zayed always said, as he strongly empowered women and gave them a place to support the country’s economic development. The UAE has grown to raise and empower the community through women by strengthening their role.

Has any religion ever been useful for women?

I've been wondering if any religion ever has been useful for women. When I learned about the main religions they ALL seem to be really anti-women. What gives?

I'm not familiar with the smaller / older religions but I've heard that somewhere there's been matriarchies. Have you heard if these matriarchal societies had religions?

How does everyone feel about the schism in with the ACA and TAE?

Edit: within*

I feel like John, Jen, and Tracie leaving says quite a bit, and I’m honestly waiting for Don and/or Phil to follow. Jenna seemed like such obvious filler, and that’s not to say that I’m not interested in hearing a new woman’s opinion. Given the recent controversy with RR, would it have been so crazy as to try to find a new trans co-host? Am I totally off base?

Atheism and Feminism

So, I am curious as to if there is any current or historical literature examining atheism and feminism together.

I would prefer scholarly, and avoid if possible New Atheism material. I have heard they don't look at religion in a decent light.

god is just [catholic atheist]

god is just god is just the entire compositions of the universe or universes. god is just all of the animals. god is just all of the humans. god is just all of the plants. god is just all of the living things. god is just all of the inert things. the rocks, the stones, the dirt, the wind, the water, and fire. god is me, god is you. god is everybody. god is poo. god is just a concept of a human, used to explain things that he or she could not know or understand. there is no soul there is no heaven there is no hell. there is energy. we are forms of energy. I am a form of energy. just life on earth and in this universe and, or universes and that is it. there is no god.

Another Female Atheist In US Politics!

After the Midterm elections, the USA has now two openly atheist female politicians. First one is Megan Hunt, who won a seat in Nebraska's Legislature: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2018/11/07/megan-hunt-a-progressive-atheist-just-won-a-seat-in-nebraskas-legislature/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook&fbclid=IwAR08IM2Y7uENWRBpe4lbcEWwka-1pShMVga3cwrO1M8TXMrG9fLu2yl_GkY (I've also heard Ms. Hunt is also openly Bisexual, which is fab! More diversity).

Second is a New Hampshire State Rep., Ms. Sherry Frost, who just said she's also an atheist: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2018/11/11/new-hampshire-state-rep-sherry-frost-says-shes-also-an-atheist/

As a lady atheist, I'm so happy that not only do we have some actually non-religious politicians in the US now, but it's delightful that the two outspoken ones right now are women as well <3 Thoughts?

Is America a Christian Nation? Protest Roberts Jeffress Sermon in Dallas June 24th

Following First Baptist Church of Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress announcement his upcoming sermon series “America is a Christian nation”, Metroplex Atheists, a local partner of American Atheists, will protest at the first Baptist church of Dallas on Sunday, June 24th, from 10-11 AM.

The idea that America is a Christian nation is a myth and spreads an exclusionary false message that creates division in our country. The United States is a free nation founded on a secular Constitution that includes freedom of religion. This embodies unity and diversity for both believers and non-believers.

Not just atheists should be concerned about this as Jeffress has a history of hateful statements about Jews, Muslims, Mormons, Catholics, and Hindus. His narrow definition of “Christianity” seems to only include those he personally judges as politically and religiously worthy.

Who- All faiths and those without faith are welcome. We welcome Baptists who disagree with Jeffress.

When – Sunday, June 24th from 10-11am. Be there between 9:45 and 10:00am

Where – First Baptist Church Dallas, 1707 San Jacinto St, Dallas, Texas at the corner of Federal St and N. St. Paul St. .

Parking Options: Ross Tower Garage, 720 n. Ervay St; Spurgeon Harris Garage, 500 n. Akard St.; Street level parking at 500 and 501 N Field St.

Some signs will be provided by Metroplex Atheists and American Atheists or bring your own.

More information at Metroplex Atheists Facebook, Meetup, and Web Site.

Survey on analytical and intuitive thinking

Hey everyone :)

My name is Valerie and I am a researcher in psychology. Together with several other researchers, I am currently collecting data for a project called ‘Analytical and Intuitive Thinking Study’.

We are interested in how individuals of no beliefs or different beliefs think analytically and intuitively.

This study contains several sets of questions asking about your preferences for analytical and intuitive thinking, and beliefs, and a number of tasks involving analytical and intuitive thinking skills. In total, this study should take no longer than 30 minutes.

By taking part, you would help us out considerably. Thanks! :)

You can find the study here: https://coventryhls.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3gVo9uIwB1ZywOF

Books on atheism authored by women?

I'm looking for books on atheism to read over winter break. Of course, the most-recommended atheist texts are all authored by men, and some of the biggest names in this group don't have great views on feminism or immigration. Does anyone have any recommendations for books about atheism authored by women? Which ones did you enjoy? Although ex-faith stories are also great, I'm not looking for memoirs at the moment.
