Hey /r/GoNets
Basketball fan here from an area that is teamless (Pittsburgh born and raised). Didn’t really grow up a basketball fan, mostly just football, baseball, hockey. Didn’t play the sport myself until 8th grade and really enjoyed it, even played JV/varsity for a small high school. Used to love playing 2k and would watch some of the NBA regular season and most of the playoffs until I went to college.
Recently I catch games here and there but really have never found myself dedicated to watching the NBA since we don’t have a team of our own in this area. Watched a lot of this most recent playoffs and want to get back into the league!
This brought me to reddit, as I really enjoy the /r/NFL subreddit with all the memes, shit talk, and news updates and I’ve heard /r/nba is also fun to be a part of. Now with the offseason freshly started I plan to post to every NBA team’s subreddit to find my “home” team! Really interested about the different teams and which one would best fit for me. Have just some general questions for you guys:
What’s the need-to-know history of your team? (I actually remember the Nets being a Jersey team, and specially remember Brook Lopez and Deron Williams)
What’s the future of the team look like? Who are the current star players? (I honestly don’t recognize any current names, except for Ben Simmons but i’ve heard that’s not for the most positive of reasons)
What’s the organization as a whole like to root for? (Spoiled as a Steelers fan but cursed as a Pirates fan so this is a legit question for me, lol)
As objective as possible, what are Nets fans generally like?
Why should I be a Nets fan?
Sorry for clogging your subreddit with a nonsense post but would appreciate input if any are willing to provide it. Appreciate it in advance!
Different owners, different FO, different players but the strategy was the same. Put together a star studded team hopeful to compete and to lead them to a title, hire former players who never coached before to be the HC? Why? The 2014 Nets tried that with Jason Kidd, didn't work out well. While you can have your reservations about him, he's at least proved to be a reasonable competent coach but it took many years.
Then in 2021, finally get KD and Kyrie playing together and we hired Steve Nash? They won many games because the team was way too talented but fans who saw the games new the flaws Nash had. It went so bad, you haven't heard his name since in any form.
My question is why did they never go after experience coaches to lead these teams when the hope was for a title? I do remember the rumors of the Nets trying to lure Pop from San Antonio but settled on Nash regardless there had to be other options right?

The Knicks finally make it back to the playoffs the last couple years with second round exits. After being the laughing stock of the league over the last 20 years and now they’re pumping their chest out😂 go look at teams with the worst winning percentage over the last 20 years in the league and then get back to me 😂 Oh that’s right championships from the 70’s when there were only 12 teams solidifies this kind of cockiness huh. Or the typical hype beast rants about having more fans than the Nets and the Knicks franchise being worth more holds any merit #Delusional ASF
