Looking for thoughts on Tewkesbury to raise a youngun’, looking to be there through primary school and move before secondary.
Yes, we’re aware that it floods and have checked the house and it’s not on a flood plane.
It’s ticking a lot of boxes right now, nice and quiet, quirky little chilled town, and seems safer than the bright lights of Gloucester and Bristol. Can’t afford nice parts of Cheltenham either, what are peoples experiences like?
Can anyone recommend a good homecooked roast in and around stroud and villages? Around £15 a main
Hi, I'm James and I've lived in stroud for most of ym life. i went to university and have come back to stroud and was wondering if there were any groups playing that had space for more?
Either that or playing Video games, other TTRPGs, board gsmes, MTG, etc. Just looking to get to know people and have some fun :)
Hi, student here.
How does the cross country railroad work?
I'm going from Gloucester to tamworth. I gotta be there at 8:30 but Google maps says earliest train is at 7:45am but that's fine.
What are the prices like ? Where do I get tickets and generally how does this work ? Thank you!
Hi all. Just looking to get away from the world a weekend at a time, does anyone have some good spots preferably in woodlands that are viable for leave no trace wild camping?
Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you.
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to check if anyone else has recently received a letter from Gladstone Solicitors about parking issues at the Eastern Avenue car park?
I just received one over the weekend, and it’s demanding £160 to settle what they say is an unpaid parking violation from September 2022! I was really surprised, given it’s been over 2 years since then, and I don’t even remember the details of that day. I also would have expected to hear from them much sooner if there was any issue. The letter warns that if I don’t pay, it could lead to a CCJ, along with more fines and legal charges, which has me a bit concerned.
I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else in the area has gotten a similar letter, especially if it’s for such old dates and high amounts. Has anyone gone through this with Gladstone or had success disputing something like this? Any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Does anyone know if the Robert Raikes is permanently or temporarily shut?
I’ve walked past a couple of times recently and it has been shut. It would be a shame to see it gone because it was a proper good pub and run by the same bloke who ran the Old Crown which was another historic building.
Anyone know anything?
Anyone happen to know of spots that need a clean up?
Hello! Our fundraiser for Cheltenham Charity the Mastectomy Tattooing Alliance is now live over on Twitch.
A number of us are livestreaming throughout the weekend raising awareness and donations for the MTA, who are a charity that help breast cancer, BRCA and transgender/non-binary communities in their healing journey after mastetcomy, reconstruction and gender affirming surgeries.
More information and examples of their work are available at https://www.mastectomytattooingalliance.org/ (Post marked as NSFW, despite the examples actually being of the incredibly life-life tattoos the artists create!)
If you're interested in supporting some friends who have given their time up this Saturday to stream, then head to https://tiltify.com/@gghq/mta-gghq-2024 where you can find links to the current livestreamer as well as the link to make a donation should you wish.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
Hi. Was not sure what to do, so thought I'd ask here.
A few months back, I expressed here that I had gotten the British Council GREAT scholarship to study here in UK, and so I've arrived and it's been welcoming. I've also been able to be selected as Student Ambassador for the university (UGlos).
But since the scholarship doesn't pay for rent, I've been struggling to find a job. I believe I have a lot of good work experience, so it's been even harder set back as I didn't think it would be as hard, and I thought being a merit based scholarship holder would give me some edge... But it seems not.
So since I've come from a poor country, the higher cost of living has also been a bit of a shock, but I've been surviving somehow, but it would be helpful to understand what I could do in my current situation.
I live in Cheltenham, and I've spoken to the university's career team too, a recruitment agency too, but they've just told me to apply to more places, which isn't helping.
I had a fab cut from Ashley at Fringe benefits in Gloucester and she’s unfortunately left, anyone have any idea if she’s working anywhere locally.
I have to make this clear, because my son says this could be creepy, I don’t want any weird internet people tracking her down at her home address. Just anyone happens to know, so she can do the same great job again.
Anyone ? Msg me
Since Lance has closed down Eastgate cycles, what other options are there for getting my bikes serviced?
I need a bit of work doing (wheel bearings, headset et) but I’m at a loss of decent places.
I refuse to use Halfords so please don’t recommend them!!
Just wanted to share my experience with everyone.
We just withdrew our offer on a house in Tewkesbury because the agent misled us about flooding history. We were on the fence to begin with as the house was in a flood risk zone but we were willing to take the risk and didn’t mind the the garden flooded a few times a year if it came to worse, but 2007 would have been a dealbreaker because it’s already next to a road that floods constantly affecting the garden. During the viewing the agent assured us that the house never flooded. They also pointed out that the previous buyers pulled out because solicitors scared them about flooding despite the house never flooding in 2007.
This gave us some assurance and so the next day we made an offer which was accepted. However, for the next few days I had unsettling feeling about it, so my mortgage advisor advised me to email the agency to confirm that it in fact did not flood before proceeding with solicitor searches (which would bring it to light anyway but it would mean we would incur costs).
Yesterday we finally got an email back from the same agent which confirmed that the house DID in fact flood in 2007 however, there has been no flooding since so we have nothing to worry about. This was a dealbreaker to us so we withdrew an offer.
During the phone call we said that we were lead to believe that it didn’t flood and made an offer on that basis thus would like to withdraw it as we aren’t comfortable with the new information that came to light. The agent got a little funny and said that she meant that it didn’t flood since 2007 (basically trying to deny she ever said otherwise) but this wasn’t something we wanted to get involved with. We ended it on a polite/good note, but just wanted to advise anyone not being sure about something like this, to get it in writing because they can’t legally withhold this information/mislead you.
We’re lucky that we didn’t get deep into the process and wasted money - if I wouldn’t have asked, we would have been lead to believe that everything was ok. Seems like the previous buyer that pulled out wasn’t so lucky, should have been a red flag to begin with.
We were always going to do all the searches, so this would have came to light later anyway, but I’m glad we found out before getting deep into it and wasting everyone’s time. Very upsetting that agents will do anything to secure an offer.

Hey, I've just moved into a house in churchdown and I've noticed lots of people walk their dogs through Imjin field, is this public access? The sign says access only.. I'm not military and I just want to make sure I don't get into any trouble if I walk my dog there.
Thanks!
Looking for advice on a Gloucester area. We are wanting to move to a family house in Gloucester on a bit of a budget. We have been looking at St Paul's Road as it's affordable and a good location in terms of not being able to drive. What we have found is that everyone we have talked to has a really strong opinion on this area - we have been told it is not safe, it is too close to the park, it will be unsafe to get from St pauls road to the train station, etc etc.
My gut feeling is that this is a bit of an exaggeration and old prejudice. I am happy to live in a multicultural area and have lived in many. Don't really want to be murdered though. Also getting mentions of Fred West, which also makes me think these opinions might be a bit outdated..
Hey everyone! I'm an international student at the University of Gloucestershire and just landed a student ambassador job at the uni! 🎉 I'm loving it here already, today went for a steam train ride from norchard to parkend. N then to Forest of dean. I'm curious about other great places to work part-time in the area to meet more locals, learn about the culture, and just get to know Gloucester and Cheltenham better. Any recommendations for part-time jobs, or must-visit spots to make the most of my time here? I'm eager to explore more!
Thanks for any advice! 😊
Heya, i'm just looking to make some new friends in Gloucester area - moved away and back again for a bit just want to reach out and make some friends or whatever.. Gimme a message if you're up for that.
Does anyone drive from coleford to or through Mitchelldean at about 8? (need to get into work at 8:45)
Hello everyone,
I’ve recently moved to Brunswick rd and if you know Gloucester pretty well, you’ll know you can only use an active parking permit. There are a couple places like midland street and weston, where you could park your car without a permit. Does anyone have an idea of a place to park their car safely that’s not far from Primark at the city centre?
