Looking for PS5 game recommendations

Hi team, I am sadly nearing the end of playing AC Odyssey, and need to start thinking what’s next and would appreciate your input.

I’ve played: Odyssey, SpiderMan, HL (was unaware of the controversy until after purchase :|), Horizon, Tomb Raider.

I enjoy games that have a little combat or.. none, but I can take breaks away from that to do side quests, explore and do some search and find type of activities that isn’t constantly breaking necks and cashing checks.

My dealbreaker is skeletons (HL was a real test)-when they’re up and moving around and they attack. 1 as a boss i can deal, not repetitive enemies.

I’ve looked at Ghost of Tushima, Black Myth Wukong.. and my god i want to get into Elden Ring-love me a bit of magic.

So what would you recommend next, or what are you enjoying?

AYO! You want a copy of Doom Eternal - GIVEAWAY

I got 12 days to redeem a copy of Doom Eternal from Twitch Prime Gaming and me, being the gamer that I am, I already have the game physically. I don't need two copies so why not give my extra away before it goes to waste. So if you want to join in my little giveaway comment below what game you played for Halloween (Or would like to play, if you didn't have time for whatever reason). Doesn't have to be a scary game just a game you played that day, if you played anything.

Edit: Winner will be picked tomorrow at 2PM

Favorite underrated game

Alot of good games are considered flops for alot of things, mainly financially. I love the the outer worlds even though it was financially considered a flop. What is a flop that you love?

Opinion on Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Is anyone here playing the game? How is it going so far? I've suddenly realised it was finally released so I'm now questioning if I should get it now or wait for a sale. The reviews are definitely not helpful bc I haven't seen anything except either very positive reviews (which is somewhat suspicious imo) or people crying about the DA game being woke (have they ever played the previous games lol)

So...what is your honest opinion about the game? Is it worth the money? (preferably without spoilers)

While playing Lost at Random I was happy the playable character is a girl who needs to save her sister, but then noticed outside of that we don't interact with many other female characters. Still recommend it though

Lost at Random is a gothic fairy tale action adventure with card battles and a dice (Dicey) who follows you and helps in combat.

You play as Odd who lives in a dark kingdom called Random where everyone's lives are determined at age 12 by the roll of the Queen's dice. Her roll decides where they live in the 6 realms of Random, each having their own history and culture, and these realms dictate how they should behave.

Odd and her older sister Even live in Onecroft, known for being the poorest realm. The game starts with Even turning 12, and forced to leave home to Sixtopia where the Queen lives. A year later we receive a strange message and embark the realms to find her.

Just typing that out makes me want to play the game. It's really enjoyable and has amazing voice work and a story. It feels like the creators put love into their project.

I was happy that a dark action fantasy game had main female characters but other than Odd's sister and the Queen we don't have many interactions with other gals. About every side quest in the different realms deals with a male character and our merchant who we visit to buy and upgrade cards is also a male character. I noticed this trend in other games.

So I was happy and validated when one of the largest gaming studies (Royal Open Science) revealed male characters are given twice as much dialogue comparatively, even when they are minor characters, even when the main cast are women/girls, even when there's more female characters. There are several layers to this gender bias in dialogues.

There's biases in what is said too: FCs apologize and show gratitude significantly more and swear less. We have a greater expectation on politeness. Female NPCs motivate the player using stereotypes for family and relationships.

😅 It's ridiculous but we have hard data now.

Since we're doing Rook-Posting...

Here's my Qunari-Reaper! Technically my fourth character, though at the same time my first lol. Started off with Warrior, felt it a little lacking, recreated once as mage and once as rogue (fun in their own right), but after figuring out that putting the aggression setting down a little, enemies don't attack all the time leaving little time to string attacks meaningfully, I'm back to playing my favorite class haha.

Little thing for fellow trans-players who want to feel represented (Spoiler): >!When you place Varrick's mirror the second time you are in the light house, the "Gender-Option" lets you pick to make Rook canonically transgender, which unlocks future conversation options!!<Also I love how the masculine-2 voice on medium pitch is perfectly passable for a trans woman who figured it out later in life like myself. This game is just amazing all around!

Am I alone in disliking The Veilguard?

Let me preface this post by saying I used to love DA, and it is not my intention to upset anyone, only to have a discussion. That being said:

Other than this, I've played through every other installment in the series. Each, I liked less than the previous. DAO was and is my favorite game.

So I played DATV. And I did not like it.

I hate the visual identity. The character creator had great customisation options, the hair especially was stunning, but the characters themselves look cartoonish, like something straight out of a Barbie movie or the Sims 5. The environments felt more like sci-fi than fantasy locations, and combat like a disco in the 90s what with the overdone visual effects. The dialogues were poorly written, in my opinion: there was a lot of talking without saying anything, annoying modern day cliché phrases, and hand-holding (the game would give the solution to a puzzle immediately, not even a chance of trying to figure it out on my own). The voice acting was far from stellar too, it felt very artificial. The only thing that made me interested in the story was the scene of >!Solas facing the other gods!<. Since then on, it quickly turned and kept being boring.

Overall, it played, looked and sounded like a sterile, dumbed-down and condescending game originally made for children or teenagers, nothing like what I knew DA to be and wanted.

No big deal. I turned it off and refunded.

Thought that was it, but recently there was a post about a xenophobic video about a scene in DATV. And while I did not in the slightest agree with the why, the "reasoning" the YTer provided, I did find myself cringing at the in-game footage. DA is a fantasy franchise, with a pseudo-medieval setting. The scene felt incredibly out of place, immersion-breaking and unrealistic. I am queer and almost all of my friends are as well. None of us talk like this. And I did not appreciate it being shoved down my throat as "the right way", nor the self-righteous moralising. Dorian struggling with his relationship with his father felt, in contrast, super organic. It evoked sympathy, empathy, and my Inky ended up romancing Dorian. This felt like someone on the team wiritng out their fantasies of how they want people to behave in a self-insert fanfic (where it is permissible, but not in an AAA game). Not to mention, the "explanation" made no sense at all.

I am writing all this because I wanted to see see if I am alone in my sentiments, or people are keeping quiet out of fear of appearing like bad people just for not liking the game.

Metaphor ReFantazio is my game of the year

A while ago I said Astro Bot is my game of the year, I take it back. THIS... THIS is the magnum opus of Atlus and nothing else of theirs comes close.

I bit into the hype and got it day one and since then i have been absolutely hooked. 78 hours and I am still very hooked. There is so much in this thing that has such SOUL and that makes it fantastic. The story is very mature and serious, full of tension that makes me lean forward to take it all in better. The music takes a unique form that has not been replicated before. The gameplay is a mix and match of Atlus' best works and since I am playing this on Hard, its very demanding for a turn based game. Its easy to get a game over and have to barely get by at times.

In storytelling this also is miles better than any of their other works. For once I don't have to follow a bunch of barely 18 year olds which is fantastic. This really allows the scope of the storytelling to expand massively in many positive ways, and the cast of characters here as well, are all well handled. No weird moments with the female cast at all, every cast member is well developed, likeable, strong and a strong narrative push and pull between the goal of the protagonist and the antagonist. The antagonist has mercilessly captured my attention.

All in all, I fricking love this game for what it is, and I would be happy to know my sisters thoughts on it. I am aware DA: Veilguard is very popular at the moment and I think I will give that one a shot, later...

TW: Lolicon: The Normalization of Lolicon content in Mainstream media (Haze Reverb)

yeah so this instantly ruined my day but I was literally just browsing on my phone about a week ago and all this week i've been getting advertisements for a game called "Haze Reverb" and most of the advertisements, a kid you not, are just literal children getting fucked or flashing something. It's censored but very blatantly implied that these girls are either having sex or positioning themselves for it. The worst part being is that they all look like kids like i literally feel like i'm looking at CP. I shit you not. This genuinely ruined my day because why is TS normalized?? It reminds me of the loligod requiem song by that lolicon that everybody was dancing to even after finding out it was a lolicon fetish song.
