Trying to build bhyvemgr. I installed the GhostBSD ports with
doas git clone
https://github.com/ghostbsd/ghostbsd-ports
but when I try to build, this happens:
[xxx /usr/ports/sysutils/bhyvemgr]$ sudo make install
make: "/usr/ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk" line 1177: Unable to determine OS version. Either define OSVERSION, install /usr/include/sys/param.h or define SRC_BASE.
make: stopped in /usr/ports/sysutils/bhyvemgr
But OSVERSION is set to 14.1:
[xxx /usr/ports/sysutils/bhyvemgr]$ echo $OSVERSION
14.1
on an unrelated topic, why does doas not give me the same result?
[xxx /usr/ports/sysutils/bhyvemgr]$ doas make install
make: "/usr/ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk" line 1206: UNAME_r (14.1-STABLE) and OSVERSION (14.1) do not agree on major version number.
make: stopped in /usr/ports/sysutils/bhyvemgr
What should I correct to get bhyvemgr to build?
Thank you.
This weekend, we will be performing updates on our main server and all associated jails. During this time, several services—including the GhostBSD Forum, Website, Old Wiki, and Jenkins—may experience intermittent downtime.
Hello. I am Linux user who since my Windows days has been fascinated with BSD. I planned on installing GhostBSD in the near future but hearing that UFS was not going to be an option in the installer was not a good suprise for me.
Would there be still a way to easily set up UFS during the install of GhostBSD? I would like to install GhostBSD with as minimal pain as installing Void Linux using void-installer
(installing from the XFCE ISO) or installing Linux Mint.
Just wasted about ten hours trying to get the WINE pkg32.sh to run, with the error message GhostBSD-base repo could not be updated.
The problem is in the US repo - it doesn't have all the packages as in Europe. I switched to the French repo and t all runs.
Here is a link to the how-to: https://forums.ghostbsd.org/viewtopic.php?t=2540
There - I've paid some back for all the lurking and leeching.
This release brings system updates from FreeBSD, better hardware compatibility for AMD GPUs, and fixes for Legacy BIOS live session issues.

I've recently installed a fresh copy of Ghostbsd Mate Desktop based on freebsd 14.1 and I can't make the sound to work
How easy is it to connect an Xbox controller via Bluetooth or if it’s even possible?
Thanks

Hello,
I've been wanting to try GhostBSD on my PC for a while, I have Linux on one hard drive and W11 on another hard drive, I have a third SSD that I want to install BSD on but it gives me a UEFI error, I'm thinking about putting it in my PC machine and buy a Rasperry or a portable Laptop to install it.
Where is it most feasible to install. Rasperry or a Laptop?
Thank you so much!
Found an old Dell Optiplex 780, 250GB spindisk, Core2Duo, 6GB of DDR2. Boots nicely from usb with GhostBSD. Installation stops after partitioning. Can click "next" but it doesnt proceed.
Console shows "index list out of range". ZFS shows it did the partions. (last errror I can see there)
Searching online indicated UEFI/legacy-mode could be the issue but this machine doenst support UEFI.
For my own amusement i tried install so im not here sweating =)
And very new to BSD and GhostBSD so apologies for vague symptoms etc =)
edit If i did it manually, it proceeded fine so Im not gonna investigate more for the time being. Got to work also =)
On OpenBSD i needed to install the firmware for my Intel Card since its not included out of the box because of contractual and licensing Issues. This also explains why my go at FreeBSD went sour, i had missing firmware firmware. I read iwmfw but now am confused does it mean the firmware for my card is included already and i have to compile it into the kernel or load it as an Module or will doing that download it first and then work? Help i wish "fw_update iwm" would be valid on FreeBSD.
This release brings critical fixes and improvements, including setting vital packages, adding hgame to kld_list, and resolving the legacy boot issue that prevented live session startup. We’ve also ensured /etc/X11 is properly created during setup.

I revisited my VM's GhostBSD w/ Cinnamon DE to see how it behaves after the 24.07.2 update.
SOLVED: I had missing Firmware because Intel are bitches that want distributions of their Firmware to suck their dicks. Now having to Install the Firmware.
I think that maybe wlan0 doesnt have DHCP and WPA on and i would have to edit rc.conf and wpa_supplicant.conf but i am afraid that i break something ? What do you guys think? In boot i saw default routing failing or something. Some output of netif

I installed GhostBSD to my Lenovo Thinkpad X230 last weekend and am enjoying the experience so far. I'd been playing around with FreeBSD on a VM Virtualbox installation for the last three or four years with no success in getting a desktop environment installed to it, so the painless intall of GhostBSD was a godsend. I've now decided to move one step on from the VM Virtualbox installation to a proper installtion on the Thinkpad X230's SSD drive.
With regard to wifi, I have a Intel Centrino Ultimate N-6300 PCI card in my Thinkpad, and although GhostBSD allowed me to connect to the 2.4GHz AP on my home wifi router without any fiddling about, I am unable to see the 5GHz AP on the home router, or tether the laptop to my iphone (5GHz or 2.4GHz) or my Huawei mobile wifi modem (5GHz or 2.4GHz).
Could someone on this forum give me pointers on whether there is anything I can do to get the wifi to work as expected?
Fyi, I usually run an Ubuntu Linux based FerenOS on the same laptop, and have no issues connecting to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz access points either at home or out and about with my iPhone tethering or the Huawei wifi modem. So I am figuring that I might get this working if there is a suitable driver that I can install to my GhostBSD 24.7.1 (with FreeBSD 14.1-Stable under the hood), I might get this to work as I'd expect. Thanks for your help!
This release marks our shift from building OS packages via GhostBSD ports to FreeBSD PKGBSD, enhancing performance and stability. If you haven’t updated to 24.04.2, we recommend backing up and reinstalling with 24.07.1 to avoid potential issues due to this significant change.
24.07.1 also includes an OS update to 14.1-STABLE, software updates, minor NetworkMGR improvements, and two OpenSSH security fixes. For more details, check out the full announcement https://www.ghostbsd.org/news/GhostBSD\_24.07.1\_Is\_Now\_Available.
Thank you for your support!
If you still need to upgrade to 24.04.2, please do so before Monday. I am pushing 24.07.1 tomorrow morning. Only 24.04.2 can be updated to 24.07.1 without problems. If you are not on 24.04.2, a reinstallation is recommended.
I have a Lenovo X3550 M5 with an EMC JBOD 25-disk enclosure. I have the SAS controller card and cable already to go. I will be the only user. Would GhostBSD be a good OS to use for my situation? Or should I go with Linux? I'm familiar with both Linux and FreeBSD, moreso Linux. On the other hand, FreeBSD's new pkg manager is light years ahead in terms of speed and simplicity.
I doubt I would have my server running 24/7 unless there is a way to "wake up" the server like you could with Sun's ALOM. Especially with the noise level from the EMC.

Hello everyone, the question arose whether the installer has the ability to encrypt the entire disk, if you can tell me how, thanks in advance
Hi guys,
I am very new to FreeBSD and went straight to GhostBSD in hopes to avoid all these configuration nightmare.
I was very happy seeing GhostBSD's desktop showing up on my VM's screen but then the mouse does not move at all.
Can you help me?
I used Virt-Manager with QXL graphic card.
My favorite menu, CinnVIIStarkMenu, does not appear when installed.
Themes that I customized based on Cinnamox Heather(1) by smurphos (https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/themes/view/Cinnamox-Heather), and dropped into .themes folder, look good. *Update*: Others that I customized based on one of the excellent Gtk themes 'Windows XP' by Elbullazul on B00merang-Project (Windows_XP_NT_Theme, Wood) also appear to work -- once I backed-out a recent change.
Nemo is nice but trying to open a terminal from a folder (I set the default to bash for the system) does not respond. (This _does_ work from Caja, even here under Cinnamon.)
UPDATE: the log '~/.xsession-errors' is continually receiving these messages:
(cinnamon:7579): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 12:14:56.500: Attempting to freeze the notification queue for object ClutterText[0x376fa23d4ee0]; Property notification does not work during instance finalization.

Hi there, I have a lenovo legion 5 and I'd like to install bsd on it, I picked ghost because it seems the easiest one to try for a complete bsd noob like me.
Alas, when I boot the drive I can't get any connection, wireless or ethernet.
I do get connection if I try to use usb tethering with my phone though.
I didn't test if other things work, like sound, but I was wondering if there's a chance at all that I can get this to work or if I should give up. I do know not all laptops can be blessed with full drivers support and I'm too much of a noob to figure out on my own.
Would it be possible to get some help?
I just tried to join the GhostBSD forum, but that failed because of the following error; "The solution you provided was incorrect" (printed in red) I have no idea what I did wrong, and I did not see a captcha question :(
