Bank Fishing Lake Lanier this weekend

Like the title says me and my husband are going to go bank fishing this weekend at Lake Lanier. Anything I should know before we go? Best time to go? Morning? Evening? I've never been to Lake Lanier. I usually fish Lake Seminole or at the Boat Basin in Bainbridge. I'm extremely unlucky as I've never caught anything at either place. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

April 29th, 2024 Update. Didn't catch ANYTHING at all. Didn't even see anything. No minnows, nothing! All the other people fishing out there didn't catch anything either. Irritated we drove 4 hours to hopefully catch something and was left disappointed. Oh well. Better luck next time I guess.

Where can I get help learning & getting started with fishing around NW Atlanta area?

I grew up fishing in Louisiana with my grandfather & uncle, & loved it, but since moving to Atlanta 25 years ago, I have not been fishing. My son (14) has expressed an interest in fishing because they have a stocked pond at his school and he goes fishing in it some days.

He has asked me if we can go fishing sometime. I know people fish in the hooch & other places (I see people in the river all the time when I run in Roswell), but I don't know anything about how to even get started. Are there any resources or guides that I can look up to learn about the best places to take my son (without a boat) so he can get his fishing fix in & maybe develop a love for it the way I loved it when I was his age?

Do I need to print out fishing license?

Does anyone in Georgia know if I need to print it out? Or will a screenshot on my phone work until my hard copy gets mailed to me

Ultra light spinner combo recommendations?

My oldest daughter (almost 5) is asking to go fishing with me.

I don't think she has the attention span to start fly fishing yet, and she's not old enough to wade yet so I was going to stick this smaller streams and ponds.

I'm not too worried about her rod, honestly I'm planning on walking into Dicks or Bass and letting her pick out her favorite character kids combo.

But I wouldn't mind picking up a little ultralight for myself because a figure for the first little bit I'm going to stay right with her, so that would be easiest for me... But I haven't bought a spinner rod 20 some odd years.

Any recommendations would be great.

Shore fishing suggestions for early April 🙏🏼

I’m heading up to Elijay Ga on the 9th of April and need help finding some nice shore fishing spots around here or the blue ridge area. No boat or kayak so some places where fishing on land or creek side won’t hinder fishing success would be nice. Favor trout and bass but catching anything is the goal. Beginner fisher but definitely have experience and know how to handle larger catches. Places nice for a picnic and dog fun along with fishing success would be perfect! Thanks!

Ellijay Trout Options for Kids

Need help please - 9 year old desperately wants to catch trout while on current vacation in Ellijay.

We fished for hours from access granted by cabin rental on a stretch of Coosawatee that looked promising. No fish today.

Hoping you guys can help me, help him get his hands fishy tomorrow….

Would like to know if somewhere in area has been recently stocked and/or allows public access.

Any and all help would be much appreciated!

Wanting to go out on a boat

Hey everyone. I am new to the Brunswick area and am looking to get out on a boat. If anyone has room on their next trip I would appreciate it. I am a clean respectable guy. I can supply whatever is needed(food, beer, gas). Just looking to get out on the water.

Georgia bass fishing

Also posted this is r/flyfishing. Looking for any intel (general areas of course) on opportunities for river bass fishing (live in ATL so anything within 1-2 hrs drive). I’ve lived here for over 5 years now, but haven’t really had the time to dig into bass fishing, have stuck mostly to the straightforward trout fishing in North GA and NC. I came from Arkansas and had quite a few options for smallmouth/rock bass/largemouth fly fishing. My ideal method of fishing is wet wading and/or canoeing. Was thinking about shoal bass as I’ve read GA doesn’t have a big smallmouth population

Very new fisherman looking for trout location advice

Hello all, I have only started fishing within the last few weeks and have been failing miserably for various reasons. I went to Bass Pro shop and they have given me many tips on what I was doing wrong so I am out trying again.

I live in Roswell and am trying to find closest and optimal place to try to trout fish near me. The online resource I found https://www.georgiawildtrout.com/post/the-best-place-to-go-fly-fishing-in-georgia is for fly fishing, but I assume no real difference, but it recommends "the upper tailwater section" between the Buford dam and McGinnis Ferry. Looking at places to actually enter this area is either through two places I have tried before. Bowmans Island trail on Lower Pool Road right at the start of the dam or Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Out of the two, which would probably be a better bet to try the new gear and skills the guy at the pro shop told me to try out? I would think that the very mouth of the dam would have less chance of fish, but what the hell do I know? At the rec area I did have a lot of space that I could hike to find more spots up the river from the bridge with a little climbing.

Or is there a spot that you guys might suggest for a nooby like me that is at most 45 min from Roswell?

Thank you for any advice.

Like-minded fly fishermen

I mostly don’t care about other people’s political/social views - those are your own, and there’s plenty of good and bad people on all sides of the spectrum. BUT, I have noticed specifically with fishing in north Georgia that when I try to talk to folks, politics/social topics often come up - and almost always in a way that doesn’t align with me.

I just want to chase some trout, man lol. So, if you also don’t wanna talk politics or social issues, or you are more liberal, or both - wanna go fly fish? Lol we’re blessed to live in a state with easy access to beautiful waters!

Is there a hatchery with an observation pond?

I took my kids to the Buford hatchery a while back and, they didn't think it was nearly as neat as I do.

When I was in Idaho, there was a park with a very clear lake where you could see sturgeon, trout and other fishjust kind of chilling.

Do we have anything like that in Georgia?

I'm trying to get my kids interested in fishing and I figured that's a pretty simple way.

Hooch Dam Info

I recently moved to Atlanta and have been struggling to find spots to wade fly fish. Saving up for a kayak but can’t sit still while I wait.

It seems a lot of north Georgia is private water, before I make a big trip up there I wanted to check out the hooch. I’m no stranger to dam releases, few scares in eastern TN, but am having a tough time getting the info for generation schedules. It seems Buford dam is higher up, leading into Morgan Falls but obviously I want to learn the info before I wader up and go out. I just wanted to see if the community had some information on the specific sites for generation and all. Wanted to go check out island shoals but not feeling confident with the flows being unknown.

Thanks in advance and bonus points if anyone has tips for wading spots on the coast, fly fishing wise

Tips for fishing spots in Middle GA

I recently moved close to robins air force base and I'm originally from Colorado. Typically I'm after bass but I'm no stranger to catching trout and catfish. I'm looking for any honey holes that someone might know of close to my area for any type of bass, and I don't have a boat yet so I'll be bank/ shore fishing along with catch and release. I don't have any friends here so don't worry about me blowing up a spot lol. I've hit everywhere on the base and looking to expand my options and I'm willing to drive an hour or so. All comments are appreciated, I made an account just for this post
