Hey y'all,
I've been rocking my Game Gear for a few weeks now. I ordered some new capacitors to get my GG recapped. However, upon inspection, I think it might already be recapped. Can somebody confirm this?
Upon further inspection, I noticed some resistors missing on C75, FB1, and C79. I'm not sure if that's normal either. The console itself works fine, besides some sound issues and screen problems. I would love to do an IPS mod for it.
I just got a Clean Screen v3.1 and was modding my Game Gear and am a bit lost, there's these steps in the guide that tell you to remove these components in order to separate the contrast wheel from the rest of the system. I was a bit confused when I did this, but figured the new ribbons or whatever will reconnect the contrast wheel to the brightness control? Yet I've finished the mod and everything works great except for the ability to adjust brightness with the contrast wheel.
What am I doing wrong?
Does anyone know what part of the ribbon actually connects the contrast wheel to the brightness control? Maybe the soldering there is the problem, I just don't know which one it is.
Nepgear from Hyperdimension Neptunia does represents the Sega Game Gear.
I think it’s time for this one to get a new screen
Which of the capacitors on the va1 board can be omitted if you use a new screen from aliexpress? That is, which of them were responsible for the 35v backlight? The ones that were designed for 35 and 50v or some other?
I have a newly modded (RetroSix) GG and, regrettably, also a "Flashgear Pro+" I truly thought that this would be the same as an Ever drive, how could it not be. But this thing keeps resetting and killing all my saves. I never thought I'd appreciate the password system of saving a game. If anyone knows how to stop this from happening or where to find an updated OS, that'd be great and very helpful.
Thank you for your time reading this, -Bonesy
Howdy
I've fitted a CleanScreen Kit v3.1.1 to a va0 and all's well except something peculiar, I switch it on and it doens't power on until I scroll the contrast wheel.
I used this guide but I didn't do the part about removing the 3 resistors and transistor (R32, R33, R34 and Q6), I know it says recomnneded but it doesn't say why, assuming as there is no standard backlight this is what they're for.
Can someone shed any light on this power on issue?
So I heard that tv tuner doesn't work with mcwill IPS mod, I'd like to know if that is also the case retrosix clean screen.
I'd really love to use the av input on tv tuner to play some oldschool consoles and vhs tapes on my game gear, just for fun
I recently found some game gear. Unfortunately I don't have any games to try it on and when I try to turn it on I see the little red light light up but the screen remains completely dark. Is the game gear broken?
So, I've seen some mods on aliexpress, I think it's V4, with a bigger screen that you need to cut the shell and use a new glass flat lens
The thing is, I really like the original bubble lenses and the original aspect ratio, I feel it's part of the charm and identity of the Game Gear, so I'd like to know if there are some mods that I can keep the lens and original aspect ratio.
Also, I'd how like to see some ways I could reduce the scratches on the lens, if anyone knows please tell me
Thanks a lot guys!
Hey'yall, I recently bought a Game Gear for a decent price. Seller claimed and showed some pictures of the console working and mentioned only that there are a few lines in the display.
I unfortunately don't have any games yet to test, but first thing I noticed is that the console immediately turns off. So the display blinks for a second and shuts off.
Is that normal? I did read that there isn't any boot logo like with a Game Boy.
Edit: nevermind, I'm stupid. Batteries I used were totally dead
i got a regular 320x240 display mod, problem is its not the native resolution of the GG so i have 3 options, go full screen with the bottom 48pixels missing, go 1:1 end up with a tiny image or somewhere in the middle and get an improper pixel match that only looks ok as long as the back ground doesn't move
its depressing me
I have the original clearscreen and a Chinese clone of mcwill. Their screens look the same and after switching on they show the same picture - the image horizontally and vertically is compressed to the visible area of the screen and when scrolling, a strong pixel shake is visible. In the clone, you can switch the scaling mode and turn on 2x horizontally, even if part of the picture climbs out of the visible area, but with horizontal scrolling, the shaking disappears and with the scanlines turned on, the picture looks great. In the 2nd version of ClearScreen, the scale could be switched with buttons in the same way, and in 3.1 a menu appeared in which there was no mention of the scale. Yes, with a clearscreen, the console consumes 2 times less energy than with a mcwill, but what's the point if the picture is compressed and shaky?
Hi everyone, hoping for some help or guidance here. The console was recapped by a previous owner and does not boot now. I inspected the capacitors and found one loose, but promptly redid it. Can’t get the red led to glow and only a low hum when powered. All but capacitors are original. Hoping to fix this guy up to finally add a working Majesco to my collection
Hello everyone, I am rather new to the Game Gear and asking for some advice. I recently got a copy of ‘The Itchy and Scratchy Game’ that just won’t boot. I took the cart apart and cleaned the contacts with IPA as well as a white pencil eraser (I’ve cleaned countless gameboy games this way with no issue) and the farthest I can get it to is the blue “Licensed by Sega” screen. After messing with the cartridges position in the Game Gear cart slot I was able to get the game to fully boot once and actually play it but after I turned the console off it never booted again.
I’ve only had my GG for about a month, I replaced the caps myself using the kit from Console5, and all of my other games work flawlessly(my entire current collection is pictured). Does anyone have an idea or some insight of where on the GG motherboard I should double check? I have a 2110 model with a VA1 board. Please and thank you so much for your time and suggestions!
I bought a copy of Tails' skypatrol and it came with a japanese copy of Sonic the Hedgehog. However, the cartride label has the 'vs' icon on it even though it's a one player game. I even looked up pictures of the cartridge to find it's not present in the images. Could somebody explain this to me? Please and thank you (i'm unable to upload a picture, you just have to take my word for it)
Just like it says I have a re-capped GG that immediately powers off when 34v line is connected.
If I cut this line, and power it up with a game it loads, and I can hear the game as well as control it (Just can't see it obviously lol)
How to I troubleshoot this?
