Hi,
I have always loved merlin(BBC) and have rewatched it more times than I can count. BUT its whole last season and ending are very emotionally taxing and (after some googling) I found that galavant could be a show with similar vibes, but less doomed and more hopefull.
basically I was wondering about watching Galavant but wanted to know what I was getting myself into before I tried, and the best people to ask are always the ones who already love it.
I am also worried because it is an american show and I REALLY DIDN'T get on with once upon a time.....
please help...
(TL:DR what is galavant like an how does it compare to other shows?)
I loved this tv series and want more so badly. Do you have any tv series to recommend that give the same feeling and can act as a “replacement”?
Feel free to give advice as broadly as possible. Doesn’t have to be fantasy or musical. I actually think Delicious in Dungeon is in the same ballpark, since it is lighthearted and friendship oriented fantasy even if it is anime and not a musical.
And at a friend’s suggestion, made these!

Both songs like up SURPRISINGLY well!
ETA: Typoed “Mulan” in the title 🤦♂️
How have I not known this show existed for nearly a decade?
On episode 3 and loving it, can't wait to see how the story unfolds.
Looking forward to coming back here and chatting once I am up to speed with it all.
Hello! I started watching Galavant earlier today and have made it almost all the way through the first season in one sitting! I can’t believe I didn’t know about it before, and I almost can’t believe there’s a subreddit for it! But I am immensely enjoying it and am glad there’s other people here, almost 10 years later, still talking about it :)
So I admit I did not always have my undivided attention when I watched Galavant, but I was confused when they mentioned the hero sword and Richard having it. When did he pull this sword? Clearly I need to rewatch this show lol
i don't think i could pick lol
Is there any way to watch this in the UK?
Title- this is used in a dnd game that’s about to end of mine. I have lyrics, same beat, and will pay. I won’t use this anywhere but with my friends so you don’t have to worry about licensing it.
Ever since I discovered galavant a few years ago I inevitably eventually go back to this period where I re-listen to the show and get re-mad that such a show couldn't find the audience it ABSOLUTELY deserved, and it got me thinking about S2.
Obviously it's pretty abstract to state that it's one of the most successful tv seasons ever made, but what I mean is that galavant had such an insane mastery of its concept, its characters, its humor and it's bleak inevitable demise that it delivered one of the most satisfying seasons ever that elevated the whole cast.
The songs got better, the characters got better (Maybe aside from isabella, she spends a criminally long time as a mind controlled bimbo which is an absolute shame), the stakes got higher, they gave us one of the best character redemption arcs with king richard, not to mention that pairing him and galavant together was a stroke of genius.
I just love this show!

Probably not the "real" Tad Cooper, but I super believe in him anyway.
My most powerful dragon in Dragon City
I just recently found this show on Hulu and am amazed I hadn't heard of it sooner. To know that 9 years ago the first season aired and then it died 8 years ago makes me sad. But, wow what a show!
And fun cameos and Alan Menken to boot?! How was this swept under the rug for this long? What happened to me and the circle of people around me who also knew not of this show? ...poor marketing?
I'm not here to preach for more seasons because it's beautiful the way it is, but to be out of the loop for so long makes me rethink my choices in life. More seasons wouldn't be a bad thing, but I'm more just venting here and showing appreciation.
This might be my first reddit post, but I have been strongly moved to speak out!
I purchased the 2 seasons on Amazon Prime years ago, so that I wouldn't have to rely on streaming whenever I wanted to watch. I've watched these purchased episodes multiple times over the years.
Today I noticed that full stanzas have been cut out of the songs in S1E4, and maybe others, but I haven't checked yet. Specifically the stanza starting with "They fight together/They glare together" in "Togetherness" and the stanza starting with "Now woebetide these scurvy knaves/Who end up in our way" in "Lords of the Sea."
I checked on Hulu, and those stanzas have been removed from those episodes, too! Am I crazy? Have those always been cut? Have I listened to the soundtrack too many times? I feel like I remember the line about Sid always doing his hair in "Togetherness" and Sid putting on pomade in the mirror...
I've not been able to find a reputable DVD option, so if those truly have been cut from previous versions, I'll be sorely disappointed.
This is my first time watching Galavant and I am in love. I was watching the last episode (S:2,E:10), and I found a line so funny. In the beginning of the eipsode, in the flashback, one of the kids says "Would you like me to write you a theme song, my king?" And young Gareth says "Shut up Manken." When I tell you I laughed so hard. Alan Manken composed the music if you don't get it. The show is too good.
