What is your dream Documental roster?

Here is mine, with a reason for each one.

Hollywood Zakoshi: I think he is the strongest to ever play, and it felt unfair to add him on any list. He is like the computer playing M.Bison in Street Fighter II on SNES; too powerful. However, there is someone who finally came along and matches his strength with strong counters.

Riki Choshu: This guy is so good at playing the tsukkomi, that I think he would douse Zakoshi's flame so well. Zakoshi would make a joke, and just instantly interject with "I don't get it" LOL. Not only that, his comments are so sharp that it feels like he is constantly on the offensive. He is an all rounder that has the highest chance of defeating Zakoshi.

Kukki: His humor is definitely out there, but it's funny enough that it will definitely knock out a few comedians.

Miyasako: He laughs at so many jokes, but is willing to do anything to dig himself out of the laughing hell, and counter. The other comedians respect him, but that makes him a target. But we have seen him shine when he is cornered, and with a strong, fast talking group like this, he would shine.

Kotouge: His strength lies in his ability to call out the smallest of transgressions, and his defense is super high. That ending in season 2 was probably the greatest example of will we've seen on Documental.

Kendo Kobayashi: He has a knack for being able to call people out on their BS, and people fear his sharp tongue. His defense isn't that strong, but he sets up other people for great jokes.

Fujimon: We need someone whose personal life can be made fun of. This guy is not only a million time loser on the show, he is great at setting atmosphere. These are things he can use to his advantage, whether it be as a counter or diversion, but he does it well.

Junior: When the game starts to stand still, he introduces Oogiri style competition that allows for tangents. While not strong competitively, he is a great mood setter.

Jimmy Onishi: He causes so much havoc, and I believe he would be the second to leave the game. I think he would get a few points within the first hour, but his style is hard to predict. And his defense is so light that he has no chance of winning. But he can definitely get the comedic juices flowing.

And finally, this is definitely wishful thinking, but:

Hamada Masatoshi: Everyone would scream at the craziness, and he would probably be the first eliminated for laughing too casually. But you know all the comedians want to be the one to make Hamada laugh the hardest and get that slap, so we'd probably see everything crumble by hour one. It would also create a soft tone that is rare to see on the show; at first. Once Riki or Kobayashi comment on the situation, all bets are off.

What is your dream grouping?

Watching for first time in ~15 years - Q: Did they stop doing “no laughing” batsu games after 2019-2020?

Haven’t watched since they were posted, many in full (in dozens of parts each), in the (good ‘ol) early days of YouTube - so (bc of timing) I started with, and have already watched, Newspaper Agency, Hotelman and 3 hrs so far of Spy (Hot Springs-Hospital - and I recall 24 hr tag - were posted)…but, i.e. along the way, I noticed that the lists seem to stop at 2019-20. Which is disappointing if accurate.

Side-Q: Which was the one where they had Endo run somewhere and he fell into a pitfall/trap?

GakiArchives - Ads

A big thank you to everyone who responded to my previous post and poll @ https://www.reddit.com/r/GakiNoTsukai/comments/1gsdiwx/gakiarchives_opinion_needed/ and also thank you everyone for the overwhelming support

As per the poll results, Ads have now been implemented on GA, these come in 2 forms.

  1. The long banner ad at the bottom of the page
  2. The square(ish) ad just under Watch Next

AND NO OTHERS!

For those that do not want to, or cannot, support via Patreon, please consider excluding GA from your ad-block.

I have also tried(!) to implement checking against the Patreon members, this was a pain to test. this works like this:

  1. You are a paid up supporter on Patreon
  2. You have a GA account, with either the same email address as your Patreon OR matching name
  3. When you login to GA, your username and/or email will be compared against the supporters list
  4. If there is a match, then a cookie is set with hashed content, this cookie lasts for 30 days
  5. When you visit GA, logged in or not, on the same browser, you should get an ad-free experience for those 30 days.
  6. If you log back in to GA, your cookie will be refreshed for another 30 days.
  7. If you use the Remember Me function, then in theory, you won't have to log back in and all will be golden.

If you support on Patreon but are not getting the ad-free experience, please do email me at admin@gakiarchives.com with your GA username and the email address associated to your Patreon (or even better, forward the Patreon receipt) and I'll try and work out what is going on. This will take some time to get 100% right, hopefully I've done it, but you never know!

Patreon is at https://www.patreon.com/GakiArchives. Oh! I've added automated updating of the supporters list now, at least for Patreon anyway

For those that support on Ko-Fi, I'm not sure what to do about you, I might just have to pop you in to the supporters table manually... for now, you will get ads, I'll look in to it with urgency!

Wednesday Downtown - January 31st 2024 - Find a million yen at Kuro-chan's house!

So I finished this two months ago, sorry for taking so long getting around to uploading it, but I figured I should get around to it before an official subber does it 😅

The baseline for these subs was made with Whisper using a modified LargeV3 model, which I then improved and fixed using context and further translation techniques. There will still likely be errors, but it's entirely watchable and you'll know what's going on and being said, easily.

This episode contains "spoilers" as parts of this function as an update following the conclusion of MONSTER LOVE, so if you're still watching the MONSTER series and want to do so in order, finish those first!

*try as I might've to prevent it, be warned, there are spoilers to the MONSTER series in the comments below.

!Kuro-chan and Richi share a birthday and Christmas together, Richi shares a heartfelt letter to him and their bond grows, showing some evidence that they'll be staying together for a long while yet.!<

*a bit of lore/trivia: this is the first episode of 水曜日のダウンタウン where Matsumoto stopped appearing

I hope this helps somebody and that you all enjoy watching it as much as I did. I'll be looking out for the next episode that has more updates of this nature, and maybe I'll AI sub it again. It was a ton of work, though 😅

How do I get on the Batsu show?

I've always wanted to get onto the show for the Batsu game where they go to a location, dress up as policeman (just an example of one of the games done) and are not allowed to laugh.

I have no idea how to get in touch and set up a thing where I can be part of the show. I want to be able to join in the game and take part in not laughing with the guys. I know that they are getting on in age, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

GakiArchives - Opinion needed

Hi all,

When I took over GA, I said that ads would not be on the site. Then the site started getting popular and the server just couldn't handle the streaming traffic and attempts to get more VMs to handle the load didn't quite work out. So the CDN was obtained, which seems to be working brilliantly.

However, the CDN bill for October was $309.03 and seems to run between $250 and $350 per month.

At the moment, support on Pateron and KoFi total ~$60 (not including one-off donations via Ko-Fi).

This is becoming untenable for my wallet, especially in the run up to the holiday season.

Therefore I would like the community's opinion about running ads on GA. To be clear, these will only be banner ads potentially at the top (between the header/nav and main content) and bottom (just before the black bar). I will NOT add ANY form of in-video ads, I hate them, not happening.

Now, if people want to run adblock, that is up to them, but if I do implement ads I hope you will consider excluding GA from it.

Oh, and for those that support via Pateron/KoFi, I will absolutely look in to a method to make an ad-free GA for you, might be associating your support to your GA account.

Thanks for taking part in this poll!

Two new articles in the Matsumoto situation - just translation, no personal comments

2024/11/12 - Former popular idol leader posts, "My friend was sexually assaulted by Matsumoto and others at a hotel," "I saw it being covered up..." / Entertainment / Daily Sports online

Amid a variety of reactions from readers, Mai Endo posted on the 12th in response to a post from a woman, "I am also a woman and have been sexually harassed and sexually assaulted, but I believe that excuses like honey traps and false accusations are unforgivable. I'm not keeping up with the explanation, but a close friend of mine was sexually assaulted by Matsumoto and others in a hotel," she confessed. "When I saw that an article with similar content had come out from Bunshun and was about to be hushed up, I just couldn't sit still, and that's why I'm coming clean now," she confessed.

I did not translate the tweets, just the article excerpt text above. // The article was deleted this morning though, but I still have the screenshot of the tweets. https://www.daily.co.jp/gossip/2024/11/12/0018333696.shtml

In japanese

2024/11/13 - Matsumoto Hitoshi's first comeback might be "Detective! Night Scoop"? "I'm in love with Asahi Broadcasting" "The eyes of the people of Kansai are warm"

On the 8th of this month, Downtown's Matsumoto Hitoshi (61) suddenly withdrew the lawsuit he had filed against Bungeishunju, the publisher of "Weekly Bunshun," which had reported on his alleged sexual assault allegations. It seems he wants to resume his entertainment career, but will he be able to return to television, his main field of endeavor? If so, which show will he be on?

A legal reporter explains.

"Mr. Matsumoto withdrew his lawsuit because he judged he had no chance of winning. To begin with, it doesn't make sense for him to lower his raised fist. In the end, I think he didn't want the woman who was the victim to appear in court as a witness. That being said, Bunshun's side did not have any physical evidence that directly pointed to sexual assault. As a result, the two sides held discussions and reached a settlement by each making a statement."

On the same day that the lawsuit was dropped, Yoshimoto Kogyo, the company he is affiliated with, released a statement assuming his return, saying, "We will consult with all parties involved regarding his resumption of activities and will notify you as soon as a decision has been made." Sports newspapers also immediately reported that there was a possibility that he would resume his activities in the new year.

Meanwhile, what about his return to television? Among those involved, there is one show that is seen as the most likely to be his first comeback.

"If he were to appear on terrestrial TV, he would probably start off on 'Detective! Night Scoop' (Asahi Broadcasting, Osaka). He is originally from Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, and has a huge following in the Kansai region. People there look out for him with a warmer eye than they do in Tokyo. Night Scoop is a local Kansai program, so even if Asahi Broadcasting were to bring him back, it's likely there would be fewer complaints than with a major station in Tokyo." (An insider at a quasi-major station in Osaka)

 Furthermore,

"The commercial slots on Night Scoop are so-called 'spots' and do not always have a fixed sponsor. Therefore, Asahi Broadcasting can decide on Matsumoto's return at its own discretion, without having to look to any particular sponsor for approval. Above all, the station also produces the annual special program 'M-1 Grand Prix,' which has now become synonymous with Matsumoto, and it is important to note that the two companies have a mutually supportive relationship." (ibid.)

However, there is a strong view that it will be difficult for Matsumoto to return without some kind of "purification" such as a press conference. The November 14th issue of " Weekly Shincho " has a detailed report on the strategy that Matsumoto will take if his return to terrestrial TV hits a snag.

Meta Comedy Club vs. Yoshimoto Comedians Battle

Saw this video on my feed from Meta Comedy and was really surprised to see this collaboration. It has Japanese subs for those who can understand and the vid’s auto translator did a pretty good job for those who need English. It was great watching them perform, especially since most of them aren’t as well known compared to their seniors in their respective countries. Hope to see another collaboration in the future.

Two new articles about the bushin situation. From today. For everyone that wants to stay in the loop.

First article: The morning of 11/11. The "hidden card" presented by Bunshun to Matsumoto Hitoshi: The reason behind his sudden withdrawal of the lawsuit

In a statement made on the same day, Matsumoto emphasized that with regard to the forced sexual acts, "we have confirmed that there is no physical evidence that directly indicates the presence or absence of coercion," among other things.

However, Bunshun presented her with screenshots of LINE messages from Ms. A that seemed to show the riskiness of the drinking parties.

The day after the drinking party in 2015, Ms. A sent a LINE message to a female acquaintance, saying that the party was "dangerous" and that she "responded gently and managed to avoid the danger just in time." While it did not cross the "line," the content of the message suggested that she had been forced into sexual acts.

Bunshun's lawyer submitted around 20 pieces of evidence to the district court in August. One of these was the aforementioned LINE message. According to a person familiar with the situation,

"There were many people involved who thought that Matsumoto was at a disadvantage in the lawsuit. One of the reasons for this was the existence of Ms. A's LINE messages."

Source: https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/323371

Second article about Matsumoto not being allowed to returned by sponsors and Yoshimoto at the moment 11/11.

Second Article 11/11. "I don't need to appear on TV anymore" says Matsumoto Hitoshi, who is angry at commercial broadcasters for their reluctance to reinstate him despite dropping his lawsuit | Josei Jishin

"On January 14th, after the Bunshun report, Matsumoto was scheduled to appear on Fuji TV's Wide na Show. It seems that this was an offer from the show's production company, but after discussions between Yoshimoto Kogyo and Fuji TV, the appearance was cancelled. As a result, Matsumoto felt betrayed by Wide na Show. It probably doesn't amuse Matsumoto

that the TV station he thought he had contributed to for so many years is now trying to please its sponsors and viewers. It could be said that he lost his temper, but he also said that he didn't need to appear on TV anymore, and his juniors are said to be a bit annoyed by his bullish attitude." (Entertainment industry source)

Source 2: https://jisin.jp/entertainment/entertainment-news/2393821/

Both sources are trustworthy today. Both these articles now have thousands of comments on japanese forums like the equivalent to japanese reddit etc.
