Gradready or medify?

This post is for those who have tried prep companies and experienced improvements in their scores. I understand that some people may not support the use of prep companies, but I’ve decided to give them a try as I’ve sat this exam twice and consistently scored in the 50s for S1 and S3.

Currently, I’m deciding between GradReady and Medify. I would really appreciate objective opinions from those who have used either or both. The price difference between the two is significant, with Medify being much more affordable, but I’ve heard of people achieving great results with GradReady.

I’d also love to hear about how people utilized these prep companies—how long you used them, how many hours you studied each day, or how many questions you completed. Thank you in advance!!

Bachelor of Letters impact on GPA

Bit of a long post, but I am hoping someone might have some advice on the best way to improve my GPA. I have a Bachelor of Media I completed in 2014 with a low GPA of 5.8, then a Masters I completed in 2018 with a GPA of 6 (only had one graded topic throughout). I have just completed my MPH with a GPA of 6.7, but I’m worried this won’t be enough to get into the GEMSAS unis. I have seen the Bachelor of Letters (Health) at Flinders recommended on here a few times, and I’m just wondering if this would be a good option to increase my GPA or whether it would bring down my score overall if it took credits from my old Bachelors in order to come up with the degrees overall GPA My other option is to do another 1.5 yr Masters in Pall Care.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions 😊

Deakin or Monash

Hello.

I’ve just finished my first year of science at Monash and would like some advice. As of now, my first year GEMSAS GPA is 6.5. And my WAM at Monash is 71.5. I would like some advice on whether I should continue at Monash or moment Deakin but still doing science as 2nd year. I didn’t do as well this semester as it’s was my first semester at Monash as a mid year and the marking was slightly harsh and lenient.

Appreciate it.

Possibility of USYD Interviews?

2020- no interview

2022- interview for Dubbo

2024- interview for intls

2026- interview for everyone?

Thoughts? Likelihood they re-introduce interviews? Has teaching staff commented on how adept they believe current USYD cohorts are due to lack of interviews?

Concurrent degrees? Do I need consent?

Hi all,

TLDR: Do I need to tell anyone that I plan on going to two universities at once? Do the Universities have to know what I'm doing? I'd rather handle this on my own if possible but I don't want to get into trouble.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm currently studying the Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Neuroscience at Swinburne university. I took the GAMSAT in September and while I'm happy with my score for my first sitting I plan on retaking it in march. Before starting my current degree I did a year of a Bachelor of Psychology at Victoria University. I opted to transfer to Swinburne to do Neuroscience as I wanted something more in-depth. I was part-time for a while at Swinburne due to some health issues and my GPA isn't the greatest. Since getting my health under control my grades have improved and my grades at VU were pretty good. I've decided that to raise my GPA I should go back to my old degree at VU but I also love neuroscience and I feel like having the science background is probably a good idea. I've started the process of applying to re-enrol in my old VU course. I'm transferring some credits from my neuroscience degree but I'm unsure if there are electives I can get covered etc but I plan on asking the university about that before I submit the application. Because I transferred to neuroscience in the first place from psych those units count as electives and I only have core units left.

I only have a few neuroscience core units left and as I'm familiar with the VU block model I'm very confident that I will be able to handle both. I plan on doing three Swinburne units per semester as well (except for maybe one semester, but I'll see how I feel when I get there). I have great support at Swinburne with my health and VU was amazingly supportive when I was there. The lack of exams at VU and doing one unit at a time makes me very comfortable with the decision. I am very confident that I will be able to pull this off and improve my GPA and if I'm struggling I can always put VU on hold and do that after the neuroscience degree if that's too much. I get that this might sound crazy but I'd like to at least give it a shot. Please don't yell at me for wanting to try this.

My question is do I need to notify anyone that I plan on doing two degrees at two universities at the same time? I read online that I need to contact a program authority for consent but I'm unsure if this is required or just suggested for people that have electives left to do in their courses? Do I have to tell anyone what I'm doing?? I'd rather do this on my own if I can but I don't want to get into trouble or look bad on my med school application for any reason.

Apologies for the long post. I hope it's not too confusing. I truly appreciate any advice.

Flinders SARMs and Cut-Offs?

I’m still a little confused about the SARMs program and how it will affect the GAMSAT cut-offs and the intake for med. If what I’ve been reading is true then there are about 8 seats in total that are now reserved for grads? Are the new cut-offs going to be insane now for Flinders grads? I’m currently doing my Bachelor’s and I’m going to be a non-rural applicant and this is sort of eating me up :( am I completely screwed?

Please drop your YouTube crash courses [like they’re hot]

Hi all, like many I am prepping for the March 2025 GAMSAT. I saw a mention of Jesse Osbourne’s organic chemistry crash course (YouTube) in another thread and thought I would ask: can you please dump/share your best YouTube courses in this thread? I want to be able to do slightly more passive prep over the week of Christmas where I am still greasing the wheels (but whilst walking the dog etc 😂 so as to have the illusion of some time off of work). Thank you! 🙏🏻

Resit?

Hello everybody!

So I've gotten my gamsat score of 68 (61, 67, 71) and ill be applying to UK (Nottingham, Swansea) and all of Ireland.

Is this a competitive score for UK/Ireland or would you recommend a resit? My first choice is Nottingham tbh

Thanks for any info/advice!

Sit again? How I improved my score.

I recently had my second sitting of the GAMSAT in September 2024 and my mark improved quite a bit. I had a score of 62 (57/59/65) in the March 2024 sit, it is now at 70 (61/73/73). I was wondering if this was a competitive score or if I should sit it again in March 2025?

Some other factors: weighted GPA of 6.786, work experience (non-APHRA) > 2 years.

I would also like to help others and share what I did to improve my score. The first sit I focused on the science content that I thought would be on the test, but found that it wasn't the greatest use of my time. I found that keeping my mind in a learning and analytical setting helped me on my second sit. To achieve this, I found some Physics and chemistry textbooks at the local library and focused on the multitiered questions requiring heavy dimensional analysis or more real-world application questions. I also undertook the free MCAT course on Kahn Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/mcat) which has great content and questions. Some other useful material was the app Brilliant (you will have to pay for this one, but try the free bit first), LabXchange (https://www.labxchange.org/), and the Elevate app (the free version would get you by but I recommend the paid version if you can afford it). Lastly, for section two I would use the free material generator on Frasers Medical (https://www.frasersmedical.com/tools/gamsat-section-2-quote-generator) to write one essay a week and check it against essays created through AI like ChatGTP and Gemini. I will note that in the last 2 weeks I was writing one essay a day. This is great practice and only takes about 30 minutes a session. To help with generating knowledge of content I was subscribed to the following free email newsletters; The Knowledge, The Conversations (great articles!), The Daily Aus, The Associate Press, Reuters, and ABC daily.

I hope this can help others as I think you don't need to spend a lot on preparation to improve your score.

Applying to UCD

with a 62 and 2:1 Bachelor’s. Toeing the line here. Anyone else debating whether to resit? Don’t want to find out in August that the spaces filled before 62, but also don’t want to spend money and time to resit if this score gets me in. Anyone else?

r/AusMedStudents Discord is now live!

Hey all, I'm Kajoo (a mod on the r/GAMSAT Discord server). I don't use reddit very often but I'm using one of my burner accounts to plug our new r/ausmedstudents Discord server! Many med students on the GAMSAT server have mentioned how it would be nice to have a place on Discord to funnel queries from medical students to in order to keep the GAMSAT server as exclusively a space for medical school applicants. So I made one and here it is!

Please bear in mind that for the reasons mentioned above, this server is for current or future medical students only. We hope you join us and help us grow our community of future doctors!

Retrying the Gamsat

Hi everyone,

I sat the gamsat about 4 years ago. I sat it 3 times.

I want to try again, another 3 times :)

Back than the recommended study was to do past papers. Don’t learn science content, just focus on problem solving.

Don’t bother with DES o Neil and other companies as most stuff is outdated/scammish. Past papers only, and make notes of where/why you went wrong.

Is this still the general consensus of studying? Or has the gamsat changed in the last few years?

Thanks for letting me know :))))

Does USYD consider Semester 1 of your final year for GPA?

I'm approaching my final year of uni and would be past a 5.0 GPA by the end of semester 1 2024?

But since the calendar dates don't really line up, does USYD only consider your first two years for GPA hurdle?

Worried about GPA Imposter syndrome

Hey guys, I was going through the spreadsheet for offers into medschools and I kept seeing amazingly smart people with 6.9s and high 6.8s not to mention very good gamsat scores.
Looking at it I feel as though medicine is out of reach. I have one more year to go and didn't do well in 2 or 3 subjects this year since they were new subjects the uni never done before. As a result I will need a HD in all of my subjects next year (mind you they are all brand new since its a new course) to get close to a 6.8. Should I be worried if I get a couple of credits and distinctions instead of HDs all round? Very lost as its going to be my first gamsat and I don't think I will be able to give it a lot of time as I'm working 2 jobs and taking care of my parents and doing full time study. Also am not the most financially stable, so if anyone has advice on what I should focus on it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Is it possible to transfer to the UK/Ireland as an Aus student?

Hiya, first time posting here.

I haven't sat for the GAMSAT yet but I'm worried, I get anxious and I always like having a back-up plan. Here in Australia the GAMSAT and GPA requirements are extremely high due to the extreme competition which I find to be completely fair. However, I've noticed that UK/Ireland thresholds are a bit lower and I find that to be comforting. If I have to move and spend my money then I will. I'm just wondering, is it really lower than Australia and if so what's the reason? Will I also be able to apply with a high GPA in a Bachelor of Nursing degree or would they require Biomed or something among those lines?

Note taking apps

Heyy, I'm looking for advice because I want to import GAMSAT notes and practice test PDFs. On any OS what good apps are there to take notes like a word doc or even edit a word doc but then rearrange pages like Goodnotes and draw on PDF in their original format Thanks!!

Should I fill in the Mature Student Form for GEM on CAO?

I am 33 y/o and have a Masters degree in Pharmacy. I also have a post graduate clinical diploma and have done an advanced clinical diploma and have completed my prescribing course. I've also been working as a clinical ward pharmacist in the NHS for 6/7 years.

I have sat the GAMSAT twice and did awful on my second sitting.

I've noticed on CAO that mature students applying for Graduate courses don't need to submit a Mature Student Form unless, but my understanding is that work experience is also considered if paying as a mature student.

Is it worth submitting a mature student form also?

Gamsat enrolment question

Hi guys, March 2025 will be my first sit of the GAMSAT and I saw that the enrolment for the exam was open recently. The date closes in January tho. I wanna pay for the GAMSAT myself and my parents don't know that I'll be sitting it so I recently just got a job and I'm saving up rn. Butt, I'm a little worried. Do GAMSAT spots run out if I leave enrolling till January or mid December? And id like to do it at Burwood (it's closest) so do seats at specific places run out too? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Help on S2 Resources for Economic/Political Systems

Would anyone have any reccomendations for good introductory resources for S2 materials on political/economic systems? I am fairly comfortable with most other areas for S2 themes, but struggle a bit with forming opinions on these. I've tried listening to a few different podcasts and watched some intro youtube videos on them but nothing has helped hugely to date. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Gamsat preparation and Masters

I am finding it really difficult to manage time to study for Gamsat and be on top of assessments. My Undergraduate GPA is not very good so I signed up for masters to give it a boost. But this time management is really difficult with full time job. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. #gamsat

Fees in Ireland

Hi , just with the general election coming up in Ireland has anyone heard of anyone offering to lower GEM student fee’s? I know previously Simon Harris addressed the fee’s and added a slightly higher government contribution but with inflation it’s more or less the same now at around €17,000 for Irish students. Has anyone heard of any talk of more government contribution or parties addressing it as it might be a good time to try ask for more off anyone :-)

How to overcome imposter syndrome?

Sorry if this doesn't belong here. Mods, feel free to delete.

I recently got into my dream medical school, which I am still so stoked about. And I know that, in the grand sceheme of things, this issue is pretty minor, but it's on my mind regardless.

I got added to the facebook group chat for my medical cohort, and decided to have a bit of a snoop of the profiles because they are going to be my peers come next year.

And man... I was left shook. There are so many superhuman talented people in there. Saw someone with a 99.95 ATAR, another person who is a published midlist author, and several olympians in there too. Like... people who legit went to TOKYO this year.

After seeing this, I felt so shit about myself. I'm about to go into a degree with so many talented, gifted people, whereas I'm just... good with memorizing facts and adding numbers sometimes. Really starting to get that *oh shit, do I really belong*? feeling. I guess I just want to know how to overcome this now, rather than later? I'm going to be stressed enough when med school starts, I don't need imposter syndrome as well.

USYD bumping up offers in late rounds?

I’m sure I read somewhere in this sub that it’s possible that USYD could bump up your offer (ie from FFP or BMP to CSP) in one of the late rounds, as long as you haven’t enrolled - feels like a fever dream though because I can’t remember where I saw that!

It does also say in the 2025 info on offers document that “once a BMP student is enrolled in the MD, they will be ineligible for admission or transfer to a CSP. Should a CSP become available, the Admissions Office will not be able to offer that place to a candidate who is enrolled in a BMP place. The Admissions Office will keep an up to date ranked list of applicants throughout the admissions cycle until Jan 2025.”

All of this to say, this sub is very knowledgeable and I wonder what everyone’s opinion is as to whether it’sworth not enrolling yet and waiting to see if I could get my BMP place bumped up to a CSP towards Jan? Obviously I can’t access the foundational stuff until I enrol so that’s on my mind as well.

Also side note if anyone know when weekly timetables get released or if past students have a general idea of the weekly timetable, that would be wonderful!

2025 March Registrations

Hey everyone, this is my first time taking the GAMSAT and I've just scheduled my tests on ProctorU. Just confirming that it's only 2 scheduled appointments instead of 3, as humanities and sciences are in one session??

Also, the testing centre info for both sessions say that it's online. I thought that section 1/3 is to be done in person at a centre? When I was completing registration, I selected Sydney as my location but they didn't ask me for a specific centre location. Just wondering if that means both tests are done on the Guardian browser and at home, or the s1/3 one is done on the browser while also being at an in-person centre.

Thanks! If anyone is also willing to share some tips or advice I would much appreciate it as this is all very new to me :)

GEM interview invite dates

Has anyone received interview invites or does anyone know from previous years when interview invites come out for GEM/A101 for Nottingham, Liverpool, Swansea or St Georges/sgul? I’ve been refreshing my email’s every five mins but if I’m unlikely to hear back for a while then I need to chill…

In two minds about which Graduate Diploma to choose

Apologies for the long post and really appreciate your time reading it.

Quick Background:

  • Bachelor of science completed over 10 years ago, GPA is not that great.

  • Graduate Certificate of six months completed nearly 10 years ago, very good GPA.

  • Need a new Graduate Diploma of 1 year right now to reset the 10-year gap.

I am aware that some universities are OK with the 10+ year gap but many aren't, so I am doing a GD now to reset the gap.

Also, I am aware that when it comes to GPA, I found that universities have different approaches:

  • Hurdle only, but does not go into rank.
  • Rank by GPA.
  • Applies only Bachelor GPA, but not postgrad.
  • Applies ALL postgrad GPA.
  • Applies SOME postgrad GPA (e.g.: some apply GD or higher only, some apply Honours only, etc.).

Anyway, I got accepted for two graduate diplomas now, and I am in two minds.

  • Grad Diploma of Science (with the same major as my Bachelors) at University of New England (UNE)
  • Grad Diploma of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Notre Dame (UND).

Pros and cons are as follows:

  • UNE Pros:
    • Cheap degree (CSP) of ~$9K, so if I end up not getting accepted into medicine, I won't be left with a rather large HECS-HELP debt to pay.
    • Close to my original major with nearly half the subjects being subjects I did already, therefore will be easy and less of an effort, and a better chance of getting a better GPA (for universities that apply the weighted GPA using all postgrad as well as those that apply GD GPA to the weighted GPA).
  • UNE Cons:
    • The degree will take me ~1.5 year due to the course offering availability (I will have to do it over 2025 Trimesters 1 and 2, then skip Trimester 3 due to offering availability, then complete it hopefully in T1 2026).
  • UND Pros:
    • Health and Medical Sciences degree, which MIGHT give me a leg up in interviews/selection with most universities, and would help me with some parts of GAMSAT (Biology is my weak point, followed by Chemistry which I love but haven't studied since school).
    • UND offers a guaranteed interview for their MD program for those who complete their GD in Health and Medical Sciences with a good GPA.
    • Can finish it in a year.
  • UND Cons:
    • Degree is full-fee, so a little shy of $30K AUD, which means if I don't end up in medicine, I will have a $30K debt to pay nevertheless.
    • Interview spot is not a guarantee of admission either.
    • I will have to work harder during the GD, and not "coast" while redoing stuff I know by heart.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Rurality documentation

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has been through the rural pathway process and used drivers licence address history as supporting documentation. I lived rurally when I was younger and am having a lot of difficulty tracking down medical records (GP clinic since closed), bank statements and bills (records don't exist beyond 7 years) etc., with the only real record being my driver's licence address history. I can probably track down previous employers, though the restaurants/cafes that I worked at have since closed too. If anyone has been through something similar, with some insights into what they used, that would be amazing.

Thank you 😊 🙏
