♫ On the one! If it's related to funk, you'll find it here ♫
Generally speaking, just try to be kind and respectful to each other and live peacefully on the One!
Please remember the human and abide by the community rules. When instances of rule breaking occur, the Mod team will address the issue with the offending user and try to resolve the problem amicably. If the problem persists and/or the user flat out refuses to halt the rule breaking behavior, they will be banned.
Keep in mind that, ultimately, the mods have full discretion when making decisions about rules and what constitutes rule breaking behavior.
1. Post content related to the funk music genre and its subgenres. This includes songs, images, news about funk artists and funk-adjacent artists, discussions related to the genre or artists, etc. We try to take an inclusive approach to music posts (hence the style/subgenre tags), so don't be afraid to post music if you're unsure about whether it belongs here. If it doesn't, a mod will remove it and provide an explanation. See the rules wiki for more info about how the mods evaluate songs for appropriateness.
2. In accordance with Reddit's Content Policy, advertising is prohibited in /r/funk. Advertising your business, YT channel, social media account, Soundcloud page, fundraiser, etc. will result in a ban of your account.
3. Abide by Reddit's self-promotional guidelines. Posting original content (including original content created by someone that you know or are otherwise affiliated with) is only permitted if you already regularly participate in the /r/funk community.
4. Cross-posts of relevant content are welcome in /r/funk, though blatant karma farming posts will be removed (based on the relevancy of the post).
5. Playlists, DJ sets, mixes and the like are not permitted. This includes albums shared via YouTube Music since YT formats albums as playlists).
6. Posts that link to streaming services that require an account to hear the entire song (such as Spotify) will be removed. Links to social media sites that require accounts to view/listen to content will also be removed.
7. Troll posts, posts about other users (including moderators), posts that violate Reddit's content policy, posts that facilitate file sharing/piracy, memes, image macros, etc. are prohibited. If you have an issue with another user's comments or posts, then please use the report feature to notify the moderators. If you have an issue with the moderators, then please message them about the nature of the issue (be sure to follow Reddit's sitewide content rules when doing so). See the rules wiki for more details.
8. Don't repost tracks or content that was posted within the past 90 days (Maggot Brain isn't Funkadelic's only song).
9. Particularly low-effort posts will be removed. /r/Funk isn't supposed to be super serious, but lazy or nonsense posts will be removed.
10. No solicitation. Posts asking for donations, contributions to a Kickstarter or GoFundMe, promotions of original work (or a friend's original work), etc. are prohibited.
If in doubt, just get in touch with us mods before posting.
1. This should go without saying, but don't be a dick. /r/funk is intended to be a pretty chill place, so please help keep it that way. If you find yourself getting upset about something, take a breath and try to channel Bootsy Collins.
2. Personal attacks, trolling, starting flame wars, etc. are prohibited. Criticism and disagreements are fine as long as you're not being a dick about it. If the only kind of comment that you're capable of contributing to a conversation is judgement or criticism, then maybe you're just being a dick. This includes comments from self-appointed genre gatekeepers. Decisions about whether or not a song "counts" as "funk," fall within the purview of the Mod Team, and no one else.
3. Please don't promote witch hunts against anyone (Redditors or otherwise). Those who are inciting this type of action often have malicious reasons behind their actions and are, more often than not, a troll. This includes asking people to troll others on Reddit, in real life, or on other blogs/sites. We aren't your personal army.
The Mod Team tries to apply sub-genre labels to music posts as best we can (we rely heavily on Discogs tags). See a mistake? Talk to us.

Absolutely bonkers live streams with one of the best new bassists I've heard in recent years. I think they were out of Boston and always played in a basement for their streams. Retro vibe. Anyone? Thanks!
FUNK IT ANYWAY YOU WANNA...Link to song below⬇️
The glass synths in the buildup to the blockbuster bassline in the end of this utterly transfix my mind. Bernie's orchestra i's like a whole city whirring in your head.
What other songs absolutely floor you and make you feel 100% satisfied every time?
Barry White, Ray Charles, K.C. & the Sunshine band, Parilment, Ohio Players, and Johnny Cash all getting named and shamed by the great one! 😆
Electronic-Funk...goodness⏩️ (Link to song in the comments)

Just looking for some funk (or funky soul) with some amount of acoustic instrumentation. Think Bill Withers first album or so. Thanks!

I had to watch and listen when I scrolled past. Their ability to perform these songs live with such precision and soul so many years after their initial release is astounding
Wait for that heavy guitar break!

🚨 Hot Jam Alert!🚨 Give Teddy Mike some love! One of the few artists I’ve heard doing that electro boogie sound today. Can y’all get down to the funk rap sound?!
