/r/fukuoka
A subreddit for residents, visitors, and anyone else that might be interested in the Fukuoka metropolitan area, Fukuoka prefecture, or Kyushu in general.
1) Be excellent to each other
Treat others with a basic level of respect, even if you may disagree with what they have written.
2) Remember that everything you post on reddit is publicly visible
Posting in local subreddits sometimes treads a thin line between anonymity and open linkage to your public identity through your post history. Be careful of what you share and use alt accounts when necessary to protect your own privacy.
3) Don't ask for or offer illegal things
Publicly posting your intent to break the law is not a smart thing to do, and this subreddit does not want to be associated with it.

Hi there! I’m planning to move to Japan, to Fukuoka to be precise. It seems like a city of the right dimension. (I was there in may).
Apparently most people use to go nihon to manage their study trip to Japan. On their website there are 2 options in Fukuoka
But I also heard of
4)Meijii 5) genki
I’m hoping to arrive to Japan with a JLPT 4, and my goal is to study hard and reach at least JLPT 2 in 1 year. This is not just a trip or a sabbatical year for me, I’m spending all I have saved to try to get a chance to live in Japan, my ultimate goal is to STAY.
I want to both learn the language and became fluent and have the knowledge certified by the JLPT 2/1
If you are studying in Fukuoka right now pls share your experience. If you studied in the last 1/2 years pls also let me know
A school that helps with finding a place to stay and part time job would be ideal.
PS I’m Italian and I’m 31
I am a real estate agent who helps foreigners. I'm certainly looking for people and customers who can work with me, but above all, I simply like to interact with people from overseas. I was raised in Japan and my father is American. I think my upbringing influences me. I want to help foreigners who come to Japan.
I would appreciate it if you could contact me if you could make friends with me
I'm renting a car in Fukuoka December 8-18.
I plan to drive around Kyushu (Nagasaki, Takachiho, Kurokawa, Mt. Aso, Miyazaki, Kagoshima), and will be in the mountainous regions of Takachiho, Mt. Aso, and Kurokawa December 12-15.
None of the Toyota car rental locations are stocked with snow tires.
Do I need them to drive in the Mt. Aso/Takachiho/Kurokawa region in mid-December (Dec. 12-15)? Should be fine with the regular tires? Should buy snow socks/chains for the tires in Japan? Do locals usually use snow tires during this time of the month?
Doesn't have to be tourist stuff. After intensive walks in last three days, I feel my legs need a break 😅
Or... any nice local cafe for chill out?
TIA
I’m looking to buy an apartment for self use in fukuoka, preferably in the akasaka or anything close to the tenshin area
I’m looking for 1/2 LDK
Is that a good area to live in? I don’t mind noisy neighborhoods. Convenience is key.
What are the prices there?
(I have never set foot in fukuoka, any advice would be appreciated)
My accountant recommended to open an account at 福岡銀行 as we need to setup some payment that SBI 新生銀行 does not support. I tried to open online but it’s for Japanese people only. I am not thrilled at the prospect to spend loads of time at a branch in person. Moreover my Japanese is a bit limited. Are you aware of any branch in Fukuoka city where they might be more foreigner friendly?
Good morning,
I was in Japan in September then went to the Philippines for a while and just returned. I don't have any warm clothes. Where can I buy oversized autumn and winter clothing in hakata?
Hi guys! We are planning a trip in Kyushu on the first week of March. From what I have read, it is already summer by March.
Just want to ask if there are any chances cherry blossoms would be appearing on early March? If there is any, can you share some spots and other tips where to find them. Thanks!
Any tattoo friendly businesses in Fukuoka that accomodate tattoos? American guy here.
We’re visiting Fukuoka and want to buy stickers with a Fukuoka related design on them (eg landmarks, food, mascots). Are there any bookstores or gift stores that would have them? Or shopping areas we should check out?
In the winter months, where would you say it snows the most in Fukuoka prefecture? My default location is Aburayama, but curious if anyone else knows/experienced somewhat mild or even heavy snowfall? The city area gets nothing - maybe a day or two each year.
Does anyone know any restaurants serving a Thanksgiving meal?
Hi! I'm looking for friends in Fukuoka :)
I'm looking for friends who have similar interests like me. My interests are:
- Canyoning (different from canoeing)
- Caving
- Kayaking
- Camping / Glamping
- Weekend road trips
- Hiking
- Abseiling
- White water rafting
- Mountaineering
- Hanggliding
You don't have to like all of them haha, but if you share any similar interests please reach out, or if anyone knows any group line chats I can join or any university societies where similar people gather together and would be willing to include me, please reach out! It would be super advantageous if you could drive so we can get to these places easier as well :)
Please leave a comment if you're interested to become friends, I will message and dm you :)
Looking forward to becoming friends!
Update: just checked surf forecast and after Wednesday there's no waves so it's now it never 😅
Hello Fukuoka,
You're the closest Reddit community I found to Miyazaki (if there's a closer one I'm happy to repost there).
I'm in Aoshima (Miyazaki) until Friday morning on a solo trip and wondering if there's any other good beginner / bad intermediate surfers who want to join to catch some waves?
Feel free to DM or refer to a better forum if this is the wrong place :)
I'm heading to Grand Hyatt Fukuoka for 2 days on 2025 Jan 14-16.
If anyone wants to join me for breakfast buffet at The Market F for free.
No pressure on talking or interaction if you don't want.
I don't want a free 4000 yen breakfast to go to waste.
Australians say that speed cameras are there to save lives
And it works, numerous lives are saved every year in Australia due to the speed cameras
I’m planning to travel to Fukuoka and want an English speaking guide for there and potentially smaller rural towns in Japan. Do you guys have any recommendations?
Hey guys, I’m in Fukuoka for 3 months now with a WH Visa and I’m looking for a part-time job. I’m fluent in English but still around N5/N4 in Japanese, making it harder to find a position. I recently replied to a job offer, but it seems a bit weird to me. The job mission is to prepare bed in an hotel, but I would get paid by cash everyday and the job owner told me that I would have no taxe. Do you guys know if it’s legal? Looks like undeclared work, I really don’t know if it’s common here in Japan. Thanks !
I’m trying to recreate this picture of my long lost friend specially now it’s almost snow season there but i don’t know where this is. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hey there, do you guys know any store that sells Nintendo goodies?
Is there any seaside place recommendation in fukuoka?
We’ll go to Fukuoka in the holidays, any place you guys could recommend?
Hello! I'm in Fukuoka until the 26th. Does anybody know any spots in the city where the foliage is more colorful already? As expected from the forecasts, most of the trees haven't changed color yet, so I'm wondering if there are spots in the city that are showing more autumn colors right now. Thanks!!
Tons of Sirens by Police/Ambulance etc. anyone an idea what’s happening?
