So I've known for ages that I don't like GNOME's UI, workflow, minimalist philosophy, it's tendency to drop first party support for features, or the attitudes of its developers...

But while looking around at some other stuff online relating to certain groups shoe-horning political activism into software projects (which in turn began bc I was out of the loop on godot goings-ons), I found out that the GNOME Foundation itself seems to be an even bigger pile of flaming garbage than the software they deliver.

This article has a nice timeline in it and I was surprised by some of the really ridiculous things they've been up to... Like hiring a shaman as an executive director, secretly ousting a guy that was largely involved in getting them grant money, being seriously behind on funding despite the grants, and more. There was even a prediction that they could go bankrupt within a year.

And apparently GNOME followed this up with the very mature approach that one would expect from a 13 yo by banning anybody who mentioned lunduke - even core maintainers of popular distros

I don't think there was much chance for me becoming a GNOME user to start with but any doubts that might have remained have been thoroughly scoured clean lol

Note: I had heard the name lunduke before but wasn't familiar / didn't really use the site. I ran a few searches for these topics independently and it seems like everything on the site checks out AFAICT without a significant deep dive.

Gnoem made two terminals! They had one, they added another. Why? Because they wanted to have a "a simpler terminal emulator for the average user to carry out simple cli tasks"

When I've seen people talking about gnome not having minimise or maximise buttons, I thought it was a "gnome removes every single feature" meme. It's not a meme, it's a reality. I can't fucking believe it.

There was ,once a nice clean desktop environment,called Gnome 2 . More advanced than its Windows distant cousin, a perfect desktop metaphor.

Then ,one day,some evil wolves devs ,probably following some old witch corporate agenda, screwed it.

They suddenly killed the nice innocent baby Gnome ,and from his guts made a fuc*ing Frankenstein mutant,with no hands and a half leg. Short leg.

Nobody in the forest understood Why. Eventually they realised the Evil Big Witch,wearing a Red Hat , decided to create a new Gnome ,in its image,just because she wanted to sell a lots of them,and also control them easier, since all of them mutants had to be mobile .

First off, I am a GNOME developer speaking anonymously. I will not prove this. I will not give you a hint. But this is why we don't give a shit.

SECOND OFF Listen, you dont need grid thumbnails, you need to stop being a retard. The vast majority of users would like thumbnails, but they do not need them, and they do not need the release delays and bugs from trying to redo the file picker like this creating entirely new widgets and everything. What you get is the name, the mtime, the size, and type, all of which you can sort by, and SMALL thumbnails that are perfectly usable for most people looking through a photo collection. Update your screenshot faggot, we have thumbnails in list view. SO HOW DO I TELL WHICH PICTURE IS WHICH, MAYHAPS? You organize your photos. You give them names. You give the folders names. And now you can find pretty much any file way faster than you would scrolling through a grid of 10000 thumbnails named things like 123843042341-0.jpg in ~/Shitposts. Most of the time I know where something is based on the modification time and size alone. For large collections like personal photographs they are all in folders and the filenames are timestamps. And, I, AND MOST PEOPLE, do not go through looking for just one in a file picker, because I, AND MOST PEOPLE, upload whole batches to social media at once instead of picking them one at a time for FUCKING 4CHAN.

In other words, this does not affect most users, it affects FOUR-CHAN USERS not GNOME USERS so it is not a GNOME PRIORITY. 99% of people do not notice or care. If you think it is that great patch it yourself but the only people clamoring for this are on reddit (4chan users off the clock) and 4chan (reddit users waiting out bans).
