I’ll be visiting a lodge in Barcelona next month. My Grand Lodge has already corresponded with their Grand Lodge. I’m US-based and it’ll be my first time visiting a lodge overseas. Have any of you had the chance? What should I expect? Seriously interested in seeing what the craft is like in Europe.
I am 23 and I live in Colorado Springs, been interested in becoming a mason for a few years now. I submitted a prospective form via email and called the number on the grand lodge website, but haven’t connected with anyone yet. Am I going about this wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hello all!
The Scottish Rite is relatively big in my area and one of the reasons is a lot of brothers at my Valley seem to be under the impression that the York Rite has little symbolism and/or esotericism. And, while I'm sure that the YR might be lacking in esoteric depth compared to the SR, I simply can't believe the YR is as void as brothers make it out to seem.
Does anyone have any reading recommendations on material related to the YR? I figure with how big the Holy Royal Arch is in England, there has to be some good books written out there.
Thanks.
Last night I was raised alongside a brother in a double 3rd in England. All I can say is what a night! Spectacular ritual and a shocking story which left me to contemplate a lot. FC, EA, don't spoil it for yourselves! One of the best nights of my life so far. Hope to see more UK lodges soon!
Hood-winked and cable towed through the initial EA ceremony. Sat in a chair to watch slides from a projector.
Given a little blue book but not taught how to decipher it.
What happens upon returning to the lodge to recite the ritual from the Key I assume given to a new EA?
I was given no instruction. 11 or so years has passed and I’m still curious - what was the point?
My grandfather’s Past Master of the Lodge I was initiated in. He was raised to the 32nd in Ohio years ago. Received Mason of the year a few years ago. He, however is tight lipped and hasn’t done much to nudge me along or help me make much sense of the purpose of being associated with the organization.
Any insight or advice would be appreciated.
Hi all,
To cut a long story short, I've been incredibly interested in joining freemasonry for many years and I believe that I am finally at a point in my life where it's a commitment that I'm ready to make.
I'm curious regarding the timeline from submitting my interest on the UGLE website, to being contacted and finally (hopefully) being invited to join and stepping inside. I appreciate that this is probably a 'how long is a piece of string' question in that timeframes could vary, however I'd appreciate any info on the general process and what to expect. Also, my apologies if this post is inappropriate.
I look forward to some advice,
All the best!
Same question as before
Hi everyone, I live in Morocco, and I contacted the so called " grand loge national marocain" for further informations and entry fees if any , then they replied by asking my CV, based on some informations I googled this is not the way usually a person joins a lodge , as he should display certain traits and characteristics, any help from a mason would be great
I see a belief in a higher power is required. I’d like to know how that is defined. I believe that the universe works in incredible ways, but have no idea how to actually articulate that. You could say I believe in the clockmaker idea, rather than anything we could regard as a human-like person watching over us. I believe there is some kind of guiding spirit, although I don’t find myself aligned with any particular religion. Would this fit into the framework or is it more defined by traditional religion?
What is required of members? I see that there is a lot of community support and and that the idea is to turn good men into great men. I really like that, but it’s also very vague.
I can’t remember the exact wording, but I saw that they only accept men of good character and reputation. I have many faults, although I would generally consider my heart to be mostly good. Could anyone define this bit further for me, as I’ve met many people who cross those lines. I’ve met great people who have done bad things. I’ve met bad people who have done good things. I’ve met evil men with great reputations. I’ve met good men with bad reputations.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read, and even more so for those who take the time to answer.
As the title says. So I went on the website a d gave my name and email. Someone got in contact with me saying there is a dinner and I was invited. What should I expect at this dinner?
Hello all! I’m curious about joining but have just read all that you do is pay dues (how much are the dues??) and do charity work. Is it more for networking and holding you and your fellow masons accountable?
I don’t wear rings but I’m thinking of getting high end watch brand. Does anyone know if any watchmakers have the ability to put the Masonic logo on a watch or does anyone know where to get a watch custom made.
Anyone know of a good honest artist in the area? I want to get one or two of the cardinal virtues tattooed, and would prefer having someone who understands the significance behind the virtue .
If all goes right, MM should be obtained by the end of the year. This brings up the question of 'what path should I pursue to continue my learning?' What were your deciding factors and paths?
It looks like half of them are in the same building?
I barely know anything, just been lurking the sub and gradually getting more intrigued, so I've started looking into things.
Does anyone have advice for someone who's considering, but is generally a bit of an idiot?
Up until recently I had a manual labor job and never wore rings because of it. Within the last year I’ve been promoted to a more sit and watch job and lately been wanting a ring. I’m just wondering y’all’s recommendations on some sources?
Brothers, someone snatched this symble on one of our lodge windows and I was wandering in anyone knew what is was
Posted the other day that I just became a 32nd. Received this design on a ring within my degree work, and was informed about why it’s important to not take off the ring….
However, it’s a nice gold ring, and I already got a few dings in it.
Made the decision to just get it tatted on the same finger.
Hello, in preparation for ANZAC Day in Australia, I'm looking to wear my great grandads medals from 2nd Boer War and WW1. I also came across these unusual gold pins next to his medals.
The one on the left initially struck me as a symbol of Masonry, except it's only a compass and no square or G.
The one on the right is a complete mystery, with the letters V M M A.
I'm afraid I don't know any details on his associations with any societies or groups but would love to uncover some of his history. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I tried contacting my local lodge and couldn't get anyone on the phone. How do I go about joining if I don't know any freemasons? I am really interested in joining and bettering myself and living my full potential.
Sending brotherly love to all of my brethren. I just found out that I will be sitting in the east for the first time ever in my masonic career and it happens to be in a I just found out that I will be sitting in the east for the first time ever in my masonic career and it happens to be in a Royal Masters meeting. The meeting happens in about an hour. Does anyone know a good lecture I can do tonight about Royal Masters? I would like to do a short talk on something this evening. I would have something prepared but like I said, I was literally just notified. You may also DM me so as to not spill any secrets.
Fraternally,
I feel like I have come a long way since initially gaining interest in Freemasonry. I went from totally nervous about going to my local lodge for the first time, to meeting so many great men and turning in my petition. The first in my family to do so!
I know the process is going to take a while from here, but from my experiences with everyone I’ve met I can confidentially say it’ll be well worth it in the end. If this is just the tip of the iceberg for me, I can’t wait to see what lays ahead and to call you all my brothers one day!
