Users are encouraged to include a scale reference! (A coin, ruler, etc!)
Please tell us where you found a particular fossil (does not need to be the precise location). This will aid in the identification process. If you happen to know what age or rock formation it came from, please include this information! For users in the USA, you can find a geologic map for your state here, in Google Earth format (KML / KMZ). This is used to find out what rock formations are in the immediate area where your fossil was found.

Found this in a grab bag in San Diego . I guess ring for scale?
I found this next to a river in the northwest US and was recommended to come here from a rock identifying page. Can anyone help me out?
Hi, first post here. A family member unearthed this chunk of limestone (or possibly dolomite) in the top few feet of soil while doing septic field work. It looks suspiciously bony, but I'm under the impression that local limestone & dolomite are too old to contain bone. Is it fossilized something else? Thank you all in advance!
Location: East-central Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Surface deposits of glacial till within a large drumlin.
It was a good day at the beach in Galveston TX yesterday. I've looked for ID charts for the area but not much luck. I think these are sand and bull shark teeth but can anyone confirm? Thanks!
Please help!! Not sure if these are all the same or all different.
Hello! This interesting shape is in the floor of my parents house. My dad said the stone tile is “Jerusalem stone” if that helps. The object is about 4 inches across including the fin shape and spiny bit.
Is there a fossil in my parents’ floor or is this shape just a coincidence?
Found our first tooth this weekend but having a hard time identifying without the root/basal!
Can someone help me identify if this is a real fossil? Thanks!
I have found so many cool fossils lately- from geodized fossils to crinoids in rocks to crinoid stem sections in creek beds to a crystallized coral! I want to learn how to ID what I’m finding without just saying, “Oh! Fossil soup!” What are your suggestions for learning about fossils in my area (Indiana)?
Thank you for sharing your expertise!
