Question, is a can of beer allowable? if not, why?

WFPB grains - am I eating too much

Hi FOK Redditors,

I'm challenging myself to do the entire month of January as WFPB and it's been going okay but I feel like I'm eating a lot of grains. I want to do this for my health and really hoping to reap the weight loss benefits and I'm not sure if my meals are too grain heavy. For example, last week I made a similar version of the FOK Mexican Bean Casserole but used quinoa, I ate that for a lot of lunches/dinners and had fruit smoothies for breakfast. Then this week I made a baked oatmeal with blueberries and pecans for breakfast for the week, for lunches and dinners I made veggie fried "rice" with the leftover quinoa, a chickpea curry that I eat with brown rice, and planning on a roasted veggie pasta. Full disclosure, I went grocery shopping hungry and have been eating a lot of bagels with vegan butter lately so this could be the reason I haven't lost weight.

Do I need to worry about the carbs if I'm trying to lose weight? Or is a week (with the "cheating") too soon to tell?

Doing WFPB 5/7 Days

I’m wondering if anyone on this sub is doing this diet for part or most of the week but cheating on the weekends?

I’ve just started using the meal planner and already am a big fan. The meals are tasty, quick and easy to cook, and filling. And I’ve always struggled with cooking at home before this diet (meat and dairy included), because I hate planning meals so the convenience is invaluable. I can see this as a lifestyle instead of a fad.

But I can’t see myself completely giving up meat/dairy/non whole grain bread for ever just like I can’t see myself giving up alcohol forever or the occasional hookah. Sure, all these things are unhealthy, but I can’t imagine visiting a country on travel and completely avoiding a type of food for the sake of strictly keeping to this diet.

Is anyone else taking a more moderate approach like me? Imagine doing it to become healthier, lower my carbon footprint, and participate less in factory farming, but I believe it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Silken Tofu Substitute

I live in Djibouti and tofu is not something I see very much around here. When trying to make some of the sauces, what is something I can use instead of tofu? I am thinking possibly white beans or chickpeas but thought I'd reach out to you guys for suggestions.

Olive oil and nuts? How to stop?

In early November I started eating vegan. I watched game changers and forks Over Knives. No problem giving up meat seafood eggs or dairy. I am really struggling to give up nuts and oil. Any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated thanks

What do they mean by "sparingly"?

I'm Vegan and have prediabetes. With recent changes to my diet, I've got my a1c levels down to 5.7, which is the lowest number in the prediabetic range. I want to reverse my prediabetes, which means following FOK more closely and exercising.

My question is with foods that they say to eat "sparingly" - what does that mean? Are two servings of nuts a day okay? Is it okay for me to have 1/2 a cup of plain unsweetened soy milk with my oatmeal in every morning? And how much maple syrup can we really eat?

I want to make sure that I'm following the plan and need to know what they mean when they say "sparingly".

My new office doesn't have a microwave or fridge. What are some of the lunches I can pack which won't go bad from 9 till noon and that don't need heating to taste good?

Forks over knives app with recipes using cane sugar?

I thought that sugar was to be avoided on this diet but several recipes in the app contain “pure cane sugar” i am certain this is regular cane sugar from the baking section.

The stone fruit breakfast cookies contain it and so does some of the brownie recipes.

I’m confused

What do you think of the FOK meal planner?

Hi You all,

Since 2 years ( on and off ) we are eating WFPB. I really need something to get back on track. I'm feeling so much better when eating around FOK/WFPB but really need some new inspiration.

Now I was thinking of subscribing to the FOK meal planner. Anyone having experience with this one? What do you think about it? Is it adjusted to personal needs and goals? I'm really hoping to get some personal experiences from you guys before subscribing and trying it out.

How to have 'the talk' with family members without coming off as judgmental or preachy?

Hey FOK redditors!

I'm familiar with a vegan, plant based diet. I can't say that I'm perfect, but perhaps 90-95% of my diet is vegan, plant based with cheat days every once in a while :O!

My family is from the Southeast and has history of heart disease, heart attacks, and lots of cancer. My grandfather just had a small heart attack last week, though he seems to be doing well. Their diet is what you might expect of normal folks living in the southeast: meat and potatoes every meal with some overcooked veggie seasoned with more meat, lots of salt and sugar, and very little in the way of whole foods. I want to have 'the talk' with them to urge them to consider changing their diets, but I don't want to be a judgmental arsehole when I do it.

Hoping you guys have tips on how to introduce the vegan, plant based diet to family members who desperately need it, but who won't take kindly to being preached to? My plan was to write up my own vegan, plant based recipes and create a little recipe book and send that along with a copy of the FOK movie and a note to urge them to consider it or even just to introduce 2 or 3 non-meat days per week to their lives if they can't commit to a 100% shift.

What do you guys think?

Keeping food moist without oils

I apologize if this question is out of line or has already been answered before.

I have been vegan for 10 months now. I seldom eat pre-packaged food (Beyond Burger is disgusting!), and I am very interested in the FoK diet, but I am at a loss as how I should give more moisture to my cooked food without oil. I make, say, three or four portions of quinoa with veggies, etc and stick them in the fridge in separate containers. When I reheat them, I do not want them to be soggy. My only solution is to add olive oil or vegan butter, to make it creamy. I welcome your suggestions.

And how do I saute with just broth?

Sleep

Im not too worried about this but I do have a question for those WFPB humans. I've been eating WFBP throughout the week and not so much on the weekends. Its what's working for me right now. It's been a month and I feel great. I just need less sleep some days. Even when im sore from working out. I go to bed after everyone in my family and i wake up an hour before everyone. Like 6-7 hours a night. Im wired most times, but can sleep up to 8 hours a couple times a week.

How do you sleep? Anyone else seem to have a shitload of energy?
