Bought a 2025 Active, no options except 4wd. Thing is awesome and very well equipped.
Technology is great, interior is really well done, and there is a ton of space. Took it on a road trip over the long weekend and it was great. Plenty of space for the kids and all the crap.
Drives real nice, plenty of power.
Highly recommend it
2014 3.5l. Just finished changing the water pump, and now I'm getting an intermittent camshaft position sensor code. It seems to only appear at startup and won't come up if codes are cleared while the engine is running. Obd is showing the timing advance degrees. How can the computer know the timing if the sensor was faulty? I believe it was p0349. Could it be related to a vvt solenoid/sensor thing (passenger side of valve covers) one of those connectors might've been damaged. But from what I can tell that'd be a different code
2016 Explorer Sport.
Randomly checked under the hood today, which I never do, and noticed that the transmision fluid cap and dipstick was missing! No idea how long it has been gone, weeks? Months? Obviously I need a new one but do I need to worry about anything else? You can tell that some of the fluid has splashed out into the engine bay but doesn’t look like much, its not dripping or anything. Is it OK to just to top it off or should I have the whole system flushed?
The key fob for the 2016 explorer is awful. If you drop your keys the fob usually breaks apart. The top part that hooks to your key chain has consistently breaks off.
Is there a way to “upgrade” the fob to something different? Looking around online it doesn’t look like many other fobs are compatible with the car?
I’m looking for advice on how to install my VIOFO A119 Mini 2 dash cam in my 2021 Ford Explorer XLT in a way that hides all the wires for a clean look. Thank you!
Don't get me wrong, I love my Explorer ST. It is an absolute blast to drive and is quite versatile but......the captain's chairs really don't do a great job ar separating the rear 3rd row area when I want to use that spot for my gear (which keeps ending up behind the driver's seat....not all of it but enough to be a pita) I was wondering if there's any solution some of you may have come up with or if there's anything on the market that I can get for that
So backstory, I bought a 2022 limited explorer two months ago, about two weeks ago I was driving to work on the freeway (not in 4-wheel drive) and I get a notification alert “4-wheel drive fault service” and then random alerts popped up I don’t even remember the alerts it just kept beeping and flashing, then my touch screen went off…then screen restarted check engine light went off and drove fine (the drive ability was never altered) I could not pull over at the time…I called the dealership they said to bring it in they will run diagnostics…they run tests check battery can’t find anything wrong (other than my car had been throwing codes on their side since I drove it off the lot most of the code having to do with battery voltage)….they reset the codes and tell me to drive it if it does it again bring it back. Drove fine the next day no warnings nothing…the following day I go out to get in my car and it won’t start…I jumpstart it…it runs fine but then have to jump start every time I turned it off.
Dealer recommended I start with changing the battery, I took it in and had them change the battery and it has been driving perfectly fine since then….
Question is…has anyone had this issue? Could it really just be my battery and that did fix it all? I’m nervous everytime I get into my car now that something is going to go wrong.
Anyone with 2020 Ford Explorer ST get aftermarket wheels? If so what size what kind of rims and tires did you get?
Also, how can I check what size the tires and rims are and what I should get?
Anyone else had the issue of one side of the seat not coming back up from recline? If so, what was the issue?
Love the look of the Explorer! Want an ST. What are the years to avoid?
Hi all! I'm considering purchasing an 06 ford explorer from a family friend for a good deal, after the owner passed away recently. it is the Eddie bauer edition and has 134,000 miles on it. What are some things to look for/consider when purchasing? Are there known issues to look out for? Is this a good long term purchase? I do plan to get an inspection done. I currently drive a 2008 subaru outback, so I know the gas mileage will take a hit, but the extra features (heated seats?!) just might make up for it. My current car has become a pretty big money pit, so that's my biggest worry with buying an older vehicle.
Wondering what people’s thoughts are as it seems to be cheaper to lease the Lincoln than the ford. Lease on my 22 ST is up in march.
I don't suppose anyone sells a kit that contains all of the most common fuses in the explorer?
I’m curious to know the average gas mileage others are getting with their 2020-2024 Explorers equipped with the 2.3 EcoBoost engine.
I drive my 2022 ST-Line primarily in the city, on flat terrain, and I’m averaging about 400-450 km on a full tank in ‘Normal’ driving mode setting and fill up with 87 octane gas.
I find this mileage quite low.
What are your experiences? Would love to compare.
Currently own a 2021 X3 M and wife has a 2018 Mazda CX9. Was looking to replace the CX9 for her with a similar size car and stumbled across the ST, which has led us to think of replacing both cars. I would daily the ST and get her a smaller SUV which would be easier for her to drive. The ST can then be used for road trips and what not with our two kids around 2 and 4 yrs old) or whenever we need to use a larger car.
However while doing some research have found many people having major issues in these cars. Have also found the opposite of people who just did regular maintenance and had high mileage with no problems. Has anyone experienced any major issues that would cause them to not recommend purchasing one? Seems to be a toss up and unfortunately this is the only car in my current price range that ticks all the boxes. Many issues I came across were significant repairs requiring new motors, transmissions, etc. or issues that required multiple trips to the dealer and car in the shop for extended periods of time.
Hoping to be swayed to getting one lol. X3 M has been great and reliablebut it makes compromises to be a very sporty SUV that make it a not great family car and can be a bit uncomfortable at times. Love the idea of having a car I drive on family outings or road trips that I enjoy driving. Unfortunately any other larger performance SUVs are out of my current price range.
Part me is thinking just do it since it’ll have warranty, but also don’t want to be inconvenienced by having to take it in for repairs regularly (minor or major) or worse be doing a road trip with wife and two kids and get stranded on the road having to deal with a tow or repair
I
I own a 2022 ST-Line, purchased brand new in June 2022. For the past three years, I’ve been dealing with a burning smell coming through the vents and, occasionally, a rotten egg smell from the exhaust when starting the engine.
The issue is inconsistent but tends to happen more often in colder weather.
The dealership has already replaced the catalytic converter, but this hasn’t resolved the problem. The head mechanic claims to have reported the issue to Ford, but no solution has been provided so far.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated.
For context, I’m located in Montreal, Canada.
I’m moving to the beach in a few months and I have 4WD in my explorer. The few times i’ve got out i’ve bottomed out at least once or twice. I’m looking for a small lift to the explorer but i’m not having any luck. Just throwing this out here to see if anyone has a solution or place I can look.
Hi all I have a 2014 explorer limited The entertainment system reboots as soon as i connect to bluetooth with my iphone and open youtube Anyone experienced this thing before? And to fix it Just bought the car Shall i go back to the previous owner or is it a normal thing and can be solved
Thinking of buying a 2020 Ford Explorer ST, what are your opinions on it for those who own one?. I hear the performance is nice, and it’s still capable in snow/light offroad conditions. Are they reliable?, will they last me around 150-300K Miles?. The one I’m looking at has 57,350 miles. Any good opinions/suggestions?. It’s right within my price range.
First off, I'm coming from a 2020 ST into a 25 ST. So I'm speaking to the difference between a 25 and a 20:
washer fluid no longer sprays front or rear cameras. This is annoying in a winter climate and impacts blue Cruise.
buttons to electronically fold and slide forward rear bucket seats are gone. Need to walk in and through middle.
Cup holder between bucket seats is gone (likely because of above). Cup holders now slide out of console between front seats. However my kids have Stanleys larger bottles and they dont fit.
Sport mode piped in engine noise a lot quieter. Some may prefer this, I do not.
Sound system does not seem as good, but still great overall. Good news is nothing vibrates.
Autostart on keyfob no longer shows a indicator signal. Will ask if this is a fault or not on service.
These things were not mentioned in a lot of the review videos I watched. Overall though build quality is way up, as is drive quality. It's still a great evolution but wish they kept some of the above.
I have a 2014 Ford explorer that has a tone ring code that needs to be taken care of. I've looked everywhere for one and haven't been able to find a replacement. Ford parts, any of the chain stores, Google searches, all come back with things that don't fit. Anyone know where I can get one? Highly considering just risking it at the junk yard and grabbing the entire axel with the ring and popping it on.
Anyone find aftermarket off road lights for the timberline grill? I'm interested in getting them for mine but not sure i want to spend $800
Quoted 6,050 for a transmission, transmission mount, and new ball joints at the ford dealership, is this a good deal?
I know I can’t fit 2x4s in my suv. Just fold down the seats. But what is the most y’all have got in there?
Hey guys. I’ve looked and looked, and I cannot find the factory exhaust diameter anywhere. I have a flex pipe break, so I need to cut and replace but cannot get it welded on at the moment, so couplers it is. If someone could please confirm size, I would greatly appreciate it. I believe it’s a 2.25 - ps this is my work vehicle and they don’t need to know about someone getting stuck on a railroad tie. Oops
