Today is my birthday and I just released a new album around midnight

I was homeless from my late teens until my late 20s, at which point I entered into an almost 3 year relationship. After the relationship's end, I took some time to heal and grow.

I got back into music at 30 and played 20 shows this year, the most ever for me! I've gotten into photography and videography, and doing my part to contribute to and help build my local music scene. I bought a bike and have started to diet and exercise. I'm determined to make my 30s my healthiest era so far.

The spirit of all of that is what Letters From the Other Side of Hell is all about. It's largely a story of my personal growth from hobo to housie.

For years, I was a mostly DIY artist, and there's still much I do myself (even when I've gotta teach myself how to do it along the way), but you get much further when you DIT (Do It Together). I'm so thankful for the team behind me for this album!!

Conor Spencer as my main backing champ on the resonator and bass. Ryan Kilkenny, band leader for Appalachian Soup Company, rocking the guitar. Keith Bateman on banjo. The Hocking College music studio team, including: Grant Seffens, Laci Hisler, and Derranique Bastian. Also The Nomads Tracks for the artwork. Thanks to you all, I have my best album yet!!

This year and all that has happened has meant so much to me, and I'm so excited to have made this all a reality! Thanks so much to everyone who was part of the journey, came out to the shows, and became new friends! This goes out to all of you and i hope to see you next year! Happy listening!

Honeysuckle - Great Divide

Few years old song, but this band is fantastic. Mostly a bluegrass/ folk band, this song is a bit outside of that category, but just incredibly honest lyrics.

Is the song Black Girl / In The Pines considered acceptable these days?

I know there's nothing racist in the song, but is it considered PC these days?

Where to find small-time music near that is folk/blues/singersongwriter/those kinds of genres?

I live in Colorado and can’t seem to find any small time musicians in these genres. I’ve tried Facebook and Gametime and a few other apps and there isn’t much of what I’m looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

Conor Spencer - Huffy Puffy

Conor Spencer is a member of both Appalachian Soup Company and Captain Chucke & the Cadillac South. Earlier this month, Conor had to report into SEORJ for a few nights after an ovi on a bicycle (yes, really). After his stay there, he came over to ClayStar Studios (my apartment) and crashed a couple nights. While here, we recorded his original tune "Huffy Puffy".

Track ID?

I’ve been looking for years on end at this point, but I haven’t checked in here! Does anyone recognize this song? The song is from one of DJ shadows vinyl archive sets on SoundCloud.

I'm looking for band / artist recommendations

Hey guys, I'm looking for bands or artists who make (preferably) norse / nordic / viking folk and ambient music, BUT:

it must have the following criteria:

  • mainly or better exclusively female vocals
  • sad or emotional mood
  • not too shamanic or spooky like Danheim or Runahild (I love both but I'm looking for something else)
  • not much going on in the music (not a lot of drums)
  • and by NO MEANS any modern or pop kind of stuff. I'm looking for some primitive stuff with let's say a tanglharp, a voice and some ambience (as an example)

It would be amazing if the band or artist made only this style, so I can listen to full albums with no metal or other stuff in between. Again: I'm also a huge metal head, especially atmospheric black and black metal, but I'm really looking for such kind of music at the moment. Thanks for any advice!!

Examples of what I'm looking for:

If you play folk or adjacent (and can travel through Ohio) drop your music links

I run a YouTube channel called ClayStar Sessions based out of SE Ohio. I'm currently booking artists. Looking for ORIGINAL artists only. Must have ability to come to Ohio to record to apply. I may be able to put you on a show, or can at least provide a list of venues, so you can make it a stop on your next tour and do a session while here.
