Wind dispersal on maps

Was using the wind layer on MyWeatherRadar and notice especially in the summer, these rather small areas develop that have a bunch of wind suddenly appearing to disperse quickly from the said area. This one happened to be over the Gulf but I see them over land frequently too.

Anyone know what might cause this? I would assume that the area at the center of the dispersing wind has somehow become a very concentrated area of high pressure, but was curious of the circumstances that cause this. Any insight would be appreciated.

Why is it raining in Florida in January 6?

Relatively dry conditions will persist across much of the state today (0-15% chance of rain) with isolated to scattered showers along South Florida and the Keys as the recent cold front pushes offshore. A cold front associated with the next system will begin to approach the Panhandle this afternoon, allowing abundant moisture to return and isolated to scattered showers to develop along the Panhandle (20-40% chance of rain). The cold will move into the Florida Panhandle overnight, creating numerous showers and thunderstorms along the Florida Panhandle and into the Northwestern Peninsula (70-100% chance of rain). Isolated to scattered showers will also begin to make their way southward into the Peninsula as the frontal boundary progresses eastward tonight (10-45% chance of rain). The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather along the Panhandle and Coastal Big Bend today as strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts (45-65 mph), a brief tornado or two, and heavy downpours may be possible this evening through Saturday morning. There is also outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Flash Flooding along the Florida Panhandle and along the Nature Coast as heavy downpours may give way to instances of localized flooding and ponding of water over already saturated, urban, and low-lying/poor drainage areas.

Hurricane Preparedness Survey - seeking control subjects!

Hello, my name is Mary and I am a Master of Public Health student. For my capstone project, I am doing a research study on hurricane preparedness in severe mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder). Currently, there is very little research on how to help prepare this population for natural disasters. This population is historically at higher risk for adverse health outcomes following impact, so I am doing a study to learn about preparedness behaviors and thoughts on hurricanes.

I am seeking out control subjects to fill out my survey. (You must live in one of the following states: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina.) The whole survey takes about 20 minutes.

While there is no direct benefit to you for participating, you will help to fill in the current deficit of information on disaster preparedness for severe mental illness. The aim of this study is to better understand how we can best prepare and protect this population from hurricanes and their aftermath.

Here is the link to the survey: https://redcap.link/hurricanesurvey

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me: meg82337@med.miami.edu

peculiar central fla atlantic clouds and sounds?

is it just me or are the skies, the clouds, storms, and the "thunder" rumbling sounds exceptionally peculiar this month, and today. i keep hearing things today that are ostensibly thunder but it sounds pecular too, different. anyone else have raised hair feeling lately about it being different (Im old and native -6th generation native too - for all you who might say - "welcome to Florida") any my dog is insanely and over-hyperactive during these recent storms each time as well - exceptionally more so than normal- i believe my dog is also hearing and sensing something affecting her. She insisting on sitting on me, but practically on my head and not just my lap or beside me and her heartrate becomes extremely accelerated. immediately after when the sun returns, she calms as if nothing.

is it / could it be related to the massive recent solar bursts/flares of last couple months and/or recent lyrids shower?

i will note the plane activity lately overheard hS increased a lot in last 2-3 weeks too - like a LOT.

Any ideas?

Have you experienced a hurricane within the last 5 years?

I’m in college right now and I’m working on my senior capstone project. I’m researching the emotional/psychological effects of hurricanes on individuals within the US and I made a survey. Anyone 18 and over who lives in the US and has experienced a hurricane within the last 5 years can answer. It’s all multiple choice and should take at the most 5 minutes. I’d love to see your own perspectives so please check it out!

Extreme hurricane events in Miami

Hello! I’m Megan and I am investigating hurricane events in Miami for my dissertation titled “How well is the city of Miami prepared for extreme and worsening storm events?”. One objective I aim to figure out is public opinions regarding the current approaches and how they could be amended to improve the feeling of social safety. It is hoped that this research will help aid the mitigation of hurricane impacts in the city, as well as improve community safety for everyone. All information given will be strictly anonymous, not passed on to any third-party and will only be used for answering the dissertation question. Thank you in advance for your participation! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeWj4aVhvYONfln0MxvjXAftqM115T8iZ5lw6untEQea4PAFg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Miami Herald: Help Us Report on Trees, Heat and Shade in Miami-Dade

Hi there! My name is Alyssa and I’m a reporter for the Miami Herald. We’re conducting reporting and working to better understand residents’ experiences with trees, shade and heat throughout the county. According to a study conducted by the county in 2021, various communities throughout the Miami-Dade have very few trees.

We’ve created a submission form for people to share any experiences or questions they may have about living in a community with low tree coverage. If you live in Miami-Dade or formerly lived there, and are interested/comfortable with getting in touch with a reporter, please fill out our form. The form is available in English (www.miamiherald.com/miamitrees) and Spanish (www.elnuevoherald.com/arbolesmiami). We’ve also created a resource guide, in Spanish and English , on how to get free trees from the county. You can further help by sharing this information and our form with friends and family, thanks!

2022 Florida Hurricane Forecast April 15th by Climate Adaptation Center Sarasota

If you are looking for information on the coming hurricane seasons, the Climate Adaptation Center's (CAC) Florida Hurricane Forecast will be released on April 15th.

The CAC is run by meteorologists who worked at NOAA, various universities, etc, and is based in Sarasota. In 2020, the CAC predicted the exact number of hurricanes. It's been pretty accurate.

https://www.theclimateadaptationcenter.org/ is where you join the CAC so that you can watch the forecast live.
