Ebay sold items search often shows sales from USA at what seems like crazy high prices compared to the same things selling over here. Anyone else experience this or have anything to say?

Charity shops putting red marker on labels

I've recently observed charity shops marking clothing labels with red ink, presumably to deter resellers. While it's common practice for brands to take measures such as cutting labels or applying marker to prevent resale when clearing stock, it's intriguing that charity shops are adopting similar tactics. Although the marker can be easily removed with hairspray or alcohol hand gel, the trend indicates a worrying effort to combat reselling within the charity shop sector.

Business insurance for used goods

Feel like I'm pulling my hair out! Can anyone recommend an insurer who will do business insurance which covers selling second hand cameras. Apparently the Simply Business tag line of 'You name it. We insure it' is a lie as they point blank told me on the phone that none of their insurers will provide any cover for second hand electrical goods and they're not the first company that's told me that either. Clearly companies that do must exist as second hand electrical goods are big business, I'm willing to bet many individual sellers and small businesses don't bother with insurance and just hope for the best, but there are national retailers who sell that sort of thing too and clearly have appropriate insurance. Anyone got any ideas? I'll be eternally grateful!

Music Magpie

Has anyone else noticed that their latest app update has left it completely broken for scanning items quickly.

I then switched to the website and using a handheld barcode scanner, but now every time you scan it refreshes the page rather than accept / decline the item.

I use Ziffit and We Buy Books, with magpie normally being good for mopping up the items the other two don’t accept.

Any ideas?

I have something that might be made from gold, looking for advice

As the title says. I'm I ok to go to a pawn shop and asking them to test it?

It's not hallmarked, but then it's from Nigeria and probably made in middle half of the 20th century.

I have seen similar items by the same artist made of brass and silver

I'm new to this so not sure how to proceed, any advice is welcome

Flipping method I’m using

Does anyone use the no money down method of flipping pallets, by just connecting the goods you source with a buyer, and just taking a finders fee.

I find this cost & time effective, as it saves me touching or seeing the goods. Or tying up my own money. It’s more based around building a network of connections.

It’s probably good for newbies who want to dip their toes in this business without risking investing into stock.

Banned from posting from evri parcelshop

So today I got banned from posting a parcel in local newsagent parcelshop. The owner said to me that this is a service for customers only. He's right, I've never bought anything from the shop and it got me thinking; is it etiquette to purchase something in these shops before posting something?

Is this something that's happened to someone else before?

Highlighting you source from charity shops to customers?

I'm considering whether it's worthwhile highlighting to customers that I source from charity shops.

On the one hand it involves some portion of money going to charity, which is laudable.

On the other people may feel cheated that it's something they could have gotten from a charity shop cheaper, or that perhaps the seller is effectively "scamming" the charity shop and the charity should get all the money. - Though logically I don't believe people should see things this way as they'll be disappointed when they hear how much the supermarket paid for all the items they got in their weekly shop.

Is it worthwhile flaunting that your items came from a charity shop? What are your thoughts?

🇬🇧 UK based Offline & Online auction houses

Could you guys recommend 🇬🇧 UK based auction websites for bidding on cars/motorbikes.

I am aware of copart and bca and have made some purchases of Synetic.

I was reading that not all auctions are online, so interested in knowing any offline auction houses around Manchester . Appreciate any guidance

Hard to get started

Hi, I'm a new seller and I find it kinda hard to start flipping on ebay because they hold my payments for two weeks. I dont mind the selling costs but having to wait for two weeks just to get my money makes it a way longer process. I read up online that I have to meet requirement such as £250 in sales, 90 days since first order, 25+ items sold and it's kinda ridiculous and I see no one else talking about this.

How successful have you been at buying pallet bundles and selling individually?

I’ve been giving this a lot of attention recently as there’s 2 auctioneers that I drive past on my commute home from work so it would be ideal - I make the commute in a small van so it seems like I could really make the most of it.

I’m curious to know how profitable people find it? I know it’s a vague question, but is it a case of getting lucky every now and then or is it consistent as long as you put the work in and do a bit of research in to what you’re buying?

I’m keen to get involved and give it a shot!

Hey guys! I want to start flipping, i'm trying to find the best sources of info for items that are selling well with good prices so I can target a few niches then begin to source my items to start flipping.

Hey! My main goal is to be organized and efficient when I start due to limited time (2 hours a day max), so I have the apps for sourcing and price checking, scanning items in store, etc, and having up-to-date info on trends, etc.

So, what apps and resources do you recommend having on my phone and in place for the best chances of success? I'm doing research atm, plan to go hunting this weekend, and start listing next week.

On another note, if I have 2-3k saved, do you think this is still a worthwhile hustle, or FBA or online arbitrage would be more worthwhile with limited time? Thanks for your time!

Sourcing alternatives to charity shops?

Whereas in American flipping, thrift stores seem to be the favourite form of general sourcing - charity shops here seem ridiculously expensive. What viable alternatives are there for UK flippers?

Boxes for bundles dvds?

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on free boxes for bundling dvds into?

I've noticed some cereal boxes can hold about 8 dvds (in cases). Anyone know of any thing else? Trying to save on packaging. I'm hoping to bundle dvds into 10s

Yodel have lost around 30% of my parcels how on earth are they still a legitimate company?

What do you use for deliveries? I feel like royal mail is probably going to be the best option despite being a little more pricey

Sourcing Software

Does anyone use any software to source on marketplaces? I couch flip and having something like this is super valuable to me, because it can search both FB and Gumtree for me, and notify me when new listings are posted.

Would this help anyone else?

Sites/Android apps accepting list of barcodes

Just got a cheapo barcode scanner. My hope was to go to charity shops and scan books and games, have a long list of barcodes, then check through and see what's worth getting.

Looking for apps or websites where I can dump a list of barcodes of books/games. I'm thinking along the lines of Ziffit or WeBuyBooks, but they only appear to allow one barcode at a time. I'm sure I've seen one before but can't find it now.

Niche Collectables

I have a fair few niche collectable teddies and figurines, some of them I have in sets of 3's & 4's (none complete) with none the same. Found it difficult to shift many of them recently particularly the bundles. The traffic isn't exactly high on such specific items even when promoted. My question is would you stick with the bundle ad, or list them individually?

When to record sales

Hello. I'm using cash basis accounting for my records, and sell items on different online platforms.

Currently I've been making a note (in an accounting book) of the date I make the sale on the app (ebay, vinted, depop) but that date is different to the date the money clears in said app, and then the date it finally arrives in my bank account is different to both of those.

Am I okay to use the app data for the day I made the sale, rather than when it arrives days or even a week later in my bank?

I will consistently use the same method across all sales regardless, but for ease of checking, using the in app data is much easier as all sales records are in one place.

Hope this makes sense!

Any replies much appreciated!

Edit:

I'm hoping that as long as my in and outgoings match whatever data hmrc have access to, the bank date would only be an issue if investigated, at which point I would do the extra labour of going through bank statements and highlighting the dates that match the in or outgoings for the sales/purchases in question.

Tonik by Dormeuil suit made in England

Just found one of these in a charity shop for £5. Can find references via Google suggesting this is made with Mohair and considered the most luxurious suit fabric ever.

There's lots of listings for just the fabric itself (for tailors to make a suit from). There's also lots of listings on ebay for advertisements for such a suit. However, comps for a suit itself are pretty thin on the ground.

Wondering if anyone else has knowledge beyond what's on Google and eBay comps on these suits. Thanks.
