An International Dark Sky City, Flagstaff sits next to Mount Elden, Humphreys Peak and south of the San Francisco Peaks on the southwestern edge of the Colorado Plateau. Around 7,000 feet in elevation, it is along the western side of the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest in the United States. A stop along Historic Route 66, it is reachable along I-17, I-40, Routes 93, 89 and 89A. It also houses Northern Arizona University, U.S. Naval Observatory and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Just your occassional reminder that this is the driest year in about the last 100 so far and that your outside plants and trees may not survive if you don't give them some water.
This is especially critical for anything planted in the last year or so, but even the old timers are struggling.
Climate change is turning the area into what will essentially be a high desert, but you can slow that down a bit at least for anything within reach of your hose.
FUSD (and usually the charters follow suit) is on a two hour delay:
Weather Preparedness / Overview
I'm mostly here to whine. We're ten ply, bud.
I've lived in Sunnyside for almost twenty years and the mail has always come at about 2:00pm, every day except Sunday and holidays. This has been utterly consistent up until four or five years ago. Over that time it seems to have deteriorated to what I observe now: Empty mailbox most days, with a delivery every two or three days. Even when I have a USPS package noted as being in Flagstaff and/or "out for delivery" it sometimes won't be delivered for a day or two. Is it just Sunnyside? Just me? Or is it more widespread in Flagstaff?
Wondering what percentage of total days have had a windhold.
Does anyone know if there’s a local place that will rent out a paint booth for cars? I’d like to do the work myself but don’t have a shop!
I would like to honor Dr. King but haven't seen any events in Flagstaff. Does anyone know if there is something planned that I missed?
So much for flag code…
The PC drop is nice, but it's just a conifer version of the Times Square drop. The cone should start on the ground, lifting to meet the new year, with sparklers going off as it is being raised, ending with a firework splash as it reaches midnight.
I am looking for some interesting content to cover for some documentaries I want to film in Flagstaff. I make videos about people/places I go. Anyone got some leads?
Kind of a broad question for discussion, but do you all think that Flag has the same catastrophic wildfire risks as places like Lahaina or Palisades? Why or why not?
edit: thanks eveyone for the feedback. I’m moving to Flag next year and that increased fire risk is weighing heavy on me for sure. But then, everywhere has added climate risks now.
edit 2: as a follow-up: Do you think Flag has better evac/escape routes than some of the other examples mentioned (like Paradise, Lahaina, palisades, etc)?
SUPER niche question, but does anyone know if there are any local-ish (Northern Arizona) vendors who sell dyed wool for felting? I'd love to pay a bit extra to keep it local instead of caving to Amazon Prime or JoAnns. I saw there is a wool festival in the summer but couldn't find links to local vendors.
(Mountain view pics because the post FELT too boring ;)
So smokey in town, but inciweb says no burns prescribed for 1/6. Anybody know what's up?
Does anyone know if there is a place in town that I can recycle fabric? We have a lot of branded things that cannot be donated unfortunately, but obviously we don't want to throw it out.
Thanks!
My girl likes finding dead carcasses of animals lol and today she found another one, but I have no idea what this is. Any takers?
Hey y'all, we lost our dog last night around 2a. I think someone from the college may have taken him home or in the area since we live downtown next to Kaibab Vet. Let me know if you see him around!

Just wondering what most folks in Doney Park / Timberlline use for internet access and what their opinions are of the service they're getting.
Just a suggestion: Given how dry it is this winter you might consider watering your outdoor plants and trees, especially (but not limited to) newer or more sensitive ones. Yes, even though you "never do that and all the plants are fine". It is MUCH drier than usual for this time of year and the ground is usually MUCH more damp than it is now. (I declilne to use the work "normal" in the context of weather or climate anymore ;-)
Longer term climate trends are for the jet stream to stay further and further north and to bring fewer and fewer wet weather fronts to the southwest. This winter is an example of that future.
The one that used to park in front of the old muffler shop on 66. Anyone know where they're parking now?
Ok this is BS! Car was parked right in front of my own house on the street and I get a ticket?? Merry christmas
