I'm considering taking a Standard First Aid course, but I'm curious about what specific skills and knowledge are typically covered. What are the key areas taught in this course? Are there any hands-on techniques or real-world scenarios that I should expect? Would love to hear from anyone who's completed the course or has insights into the training!
No pictures, but I have what it feels like a cut inside my nose and the mild pain has been there for about 2 weeks now.
How do you treat cuts inside of your nose? Thanks
I slipped in a Cenote when I was visiting Mexico on November 27th. Went to hospital when I got home for a tetanus shot and he gave me antibiotics on November 28th so I’ve been taking the pills for 2 days but to me it looks like it’s getting worse.
Ive had tonsillitis and laryngitis before. Im an 18 year old female, 5ft tall and not overweight. I was just wondering if it was tonsillitis or laryngitis and what i should do because currently i dont have a way of contacting the doctors.
Scraped some skin off hand after a tumble on the court. Washed it and covered it after getting home. This is it after 3 days. It’s not very large, doesn’t feel very warm, and has minimal serous fluid. Slightly sensitive to touch.
For context, I’ve had 4 concussions in the past, I’ve been recovering for 2 weeks from the last one, I got hit in the eye with a tennis ball last week (not sure if that’s relevant) and now this. My heads really hurting and I’m kinda dizzy. What do I do
I’m traveling and am not sure if I need stitches on this cut. The bigger gash is below my knee. I’m in Mexico, if I do need stitches where do I go?
Im at a friends house tonight and we did the Girl Guides program when we were younger.
We have discovered. Our leader wasnt great. She was very organized. Great music. But some of what we learned was questionable.
We made First Aid kits together. We put two mini chocolate bars into the kit.
She told us. In case someone has hypothermia. You need to keep chocolate on hand?
Is that anywhere near correct?
Was that a cutesy girl thing? Oh were so cold! Haha! I have chocolate bars just for this occasion?
I did outdoor adventure training in a different program and we learned a whole other thing for hypothermia treatment.
Thanks for your time.
I got a hole in my leg 2 weeks ago, it was small but ugly, you could clearly see the inside parts. Urgent care optednto glue, seems to have healed pretty well, im resisting urge to pick this off...
Happened on Monday (currently Thursday) scraped my knee on the sidewalk. I put ointment on it, but before that there was this yellowish mushy scab that I was able to easily wipe off with a tissue, it still hurts
Tripped and scrapped my knee on the street about 3 days ago and we cleaned it with alcohol and I’ve been putting antibiotic cream on it everyday with a bandaid but I took my bandaid off this morning and there was a layer of yellowish film so I cleaned it off with a towel and soap and this is what it looks like now.
Burned myself on a heat gun the other day and iced the shit out of it, now it’s only painful if I put pressure on it, but it started to tear, should I do anything?
I burnt my forehead with boiling water and spent the last 10 mins running cold water on the burned area. Based on the photo that was taken afterwards, should I go to the ER? Burned area is red and some skin peeling is visible. Area is 5/10 pain level
I accidentally cut my thumb with a razor knife and little bit over a week ago and had to get stitches. Now the entire top half of my thumb is in pain and it is very painful to use my thumb for anything. With most of the pain being toward the bottom of the cut around knuckle level. Just curious if this is a normal part of the healing process or if it’s something I should be concerned about.
I've only seen requirments of depth or lenght but not width. When are the stitches recommended for cosmetic reasons or infections? When do you actually *need* them so you don't die? I understand you definitely should get stitches for hypodermis and deeper, but when are they absolutely crucial?
Hi my daughter 4 year old fell and gashed her head on concrete/tiles.
We got x rays which came back negative, we had 4 stitches. No vomiting no nausea, no dizzynes.
The doctor prescribed penicillin and advise to clean it and to take the stitches out in 7 days.
Unfortunately I'm on a foreign country so there was a language barrier when going to the private hospital (Mexico Cancun vs. Canada).
Curious to know if there are any other things to look out for and if the antibiotics are necessary. I don't mind drugs but kind of worried about side effects and being in a foreign country.
Thanks
I got this abrasion after falling off my bike onto concrete from hitting a curb I thought I could jump, turns out I couldn't. I'm just trying to make sure this is healing alright.
First, I cut the side of the finger and nail. Second, cleaned it and banded it. My concern is that it may been stitches. It stopped bleeding when I used liquid bandaid. It that a good sign?
