Should fire be burned with doors opened or closed? I’ve done both the last two winters. Pros or cons, which allows more heat Into room? There is two blowers coming from down low
#troubleshooting
Hello knowledge people! Yes, I’ve been reading and troubleshooting but I feel stuck. Pls forgive my ignorance and bad terminology.
My pilot goes out when I go to ON. The system worked fine when I turned it off in late spring.
Honeywell controller Flame pattern looks good Measured millivolts for TP and TH, 660 or so. Jumped TP/TH to TH with a paper clip, head a faint click. No voltage drop when I turn the wall switch ON.
I tried sanding the pole and thermocouple, could do more but it seems like they’re producing sufficient volts?
I’m stuck!
I have a 25 year old heatilator odyssey 42 old school propane fireplace and one of my logs has a hole in it. I cannot find a replacement because heatilator no longer supports older models. Anyone know a safe easy way to repair?
I have a Jotul free standing gas fireplace. It works great without issue. My local fireplace shop tells me I’m overdue for “maintenance.” They want to charge me $300 bucks for it. Seems like a bit of a racket. What can I do on my own to make sure the fireplace is in good and safe working condition?
(Pic for attention)
I’ve just restored my first wood stove and looking at building a hearth for it in the corner of the room.
I’m really not sure what I prefer design or material wise (brick, stone, or something else), but looking for inspiration.
Could y’all send me some photos of what your setup looks like and maybe any things to keep in mind during the build process?
I have a vent free insert and all the heat goes straight up instead of out. It heats up the wooden mantle so much the paint bubbled.
Would a hood/deflector help at all? If so, what kind would you recommend for this fireplace?
Bonus points if you can recommend a caulk to use on the marble where it cracked from the house settling!
Sorry this is a really dumb question. I have a fireplace chimney in my place and I only recently started using it. I bought duraflame logs to use and they can last up to 4 hours. Can I burn a second one after, or is that somehow dangerous? How long can I have a fire going? I tried looking this up but I'm not seeing a straight answer
I have two fire fireplaces in my house. One on the main floor and one in the basement. The main floor has a manual valve and is match lit so no pilot light. This only had a cast iron damper which we still use.
The basement however, was upgraded to a gas log system with pilot and remote. I had a new damper installed due to a massive amount of air flow and the old cast iron damper being broken. Then I found out that even with my new chain actuated damper I must have a safety clip to keep it from closing all the way. I get this, but here’s my issue.
Question… can I just remove the safety clip and add a label or lockout tag to the gas logs assembly? Because we don’t use the downstairs gas logs and I’ve got the gas supply shut off to it about 6-8 feet away. So the pilot isn’t lit either. So I’m wondering as a homeowner to just remove the clip and label the logs with a red tag.
Thoughts? Also, I’m not willing to invest in new doors at this time that would actually seal the air out as I have plenty of other remodeling eating up the budget.
Video has sound, sound is the concern.
Seeking troubleshooting advice for this Heatilator Model GC421E. I am comfortable with most all DIY plumbing and electrical work - but I am unsure if this sound is from. To me it sounds like a transformer issue but that is a SWAG. Any thoughts? Is it hire an expert time or just replace a part or two?
Thanks in Advance.
We recently had a Supreme Fusion 24 installed in our living room. We had the installer not only replace the old wood burning unit that was there before, but knock down the interior chimney brick wall and re-build it with new brick as well.
It looks very much as advertised: https://www.kastlefireplace.ca/inserts/fusion-24/10054/
However, now that the weather is colder, we notice a significant cold draft coming through the blower vents on the sides of the unit. Almost like an open window. This happens regardless of whether the flue/damper are open or closed.
Any idea how to solve this? Was there not enough insulation? Do we need to seal the fireplace with a "blanket" or magnetic strips on the sides when not in use?
Hi all. We have a wood burning brick fireplace with no glass front, i.e. it's just open with an aftermarket metal screen in front. We enjoy having fires in the evening, but then of course have to go to bed. Lately we have stopped putting new logs on the fire 2-3 hours before bed, then we come down and break up the coals to cool it off faster right before going to sleep. We had been leaving the flue open all night, despite how much cold air came into the living room.
However one day I came down in the morning to find a fine sprinkling of ash all over the hearth, living room floor, and coffee table in front of the fireplace. I can only assume that a strong downdraft blew ashes into the room? This makes us un-inclined to leave the flue open all night, but of course then we get smoke in the house if we close it, even 3-6 hours after letting the fire die down.
Is there an alternative solution? Getting glass doors isn't an option I don't think, since there's no alternative air draw for the chimney, and we probably can't afford them right now anyway. I can't think of any non-flammable covering to prevent ashes from blowing into the room. Or, are we just not able to have PM fires?
Can I just remove tile and sheetrock over this fireplace? It’s freaking ugly.
I've never considered an electric insert but here we are. I'm pretty much capped around $300. What would you get if it were you?
Hello, I have a robertshaw combination valve on my propane fireplace insert. I believe the combination valve is shot so far i've:
sanded the thermalpile down
measured themalpile at .100 volts and peaking at .400 volts
sent 1.6v (AA battery) into the combination valve
percussive maintenance
the pilot light only works when you depress the thing, it does not stay lit no matter what of the preceeding i've done.
I assume the combination valve is shot but before I pull the parts cannon trigger on $120-$180 I figured I'd get some people from the internet's opinions.
Recently had a pane break and need to replace- just wondering if there is a special heat rated tempered glass or something like that or is glass glass?
