Update removed all extensions / most settings

I have a dualboot Windows/Ubuntu machine. Recently i installed firefox using apt repository. Installed version was 125.0.1. Everything was under profile "default-release" on both ubuntu and firefox. Today when i booted up ubuntu i was notified that firefox was updated and when i tried to login to gmail i had an error saying that i had temporary problems. After restarting, all settings in firefox reset back to defaults. I thought that something went wrong and tried to sync, but sync did nothing. I thought that maybe i can copy profile from windows, but when i tried to launch firefox to go to about:profiles, it synced and all extensions vanished there too, although looks like settings on windows machine are still my own.

Is there a way to go back to sync where i still had all my extensions?

How to rebind mouse buttons in Firefox?

Heyo, would like to be able to change what mouse 4 and mouse 5 do. Mainly, I'd like for mouse 4 to serve to close a tab and mouse 5 to reopen the last closed tab.

Right now I'm also using Firefox through Linux/Wayland, so solutions like using AutoHotKey or AutoKey aren't possible for me.

Simple Tab Groups - missing settings?

I am trying to save my STG groups to bookmarks to sync them more easily between devices, as suggested in issue #291. But I can't find some of the settings present on the screenshot from the issue.

Were these features discontinued? Or how can enable this functionality? Using plain Firefox, STG version 5.2.

So firefox Community what is better about firefox than chrome? or other competing browsers? on pc

I was using firefox for a long time before when chrome was annoying to use but now chrome provides a better interface than firefox

chrome is faster than firefox by a lot

chrome has more plugins

i don't think there's anything good left about firefox.

IF YOUR ARGUEMENT IS FIREFOX RESPECTS USER PRIVACY WHY DOES FIREFOX HAVE GOOGLE AS DEFAULT SEARCH ENGINE????

Note: i don't use chrome, i use thorium which is based on chromium engine controlled by google but thorium is gpled software so my privacy is not that compromised however chromium might have some code that will definitely be spying on me :(

Firefox Andorid

Apparently there is no way to use containers on Firefox Android, therefore I wonder. Is the Enhanced Tracking Protection on Firefox Android blocks websites from communicating with other websites that are open on different tabs? Ie
2 Tabs open, Reddit & Ebay.

Can Reddit spy on my Ebay account, thus knowing my email and address or does ETP block that.

Also, is there a way to have favourites bar showing on firefox like on Windows.

Thanks

Seeing as ios eu is now going to allow third party app stores and browsers..

Will Firefox on iPhone and ipad going to try to get plugins sorted? Supposedly the ruling states browser's don't have to use safari as base now. Think we are going to see the official webkit port?

When typing "red" in the address bar the auto complete fills in "redditinc" and not "reddit" This is a different page how do I disable it?

edit: fixed temporarily: You can go to History -> Manage History -> type search "red" etc. -> Delete said pages. They will pop up once again once you visit similarly named sites but this is a temporary fix atleast. /end edit.

When typing "red" in the address bar the auto complete fills in "redditinc" and not "reddit" This is a different page how do I disable it?

I used "red" for many months to quickly access Reddit but for a few days now, very recently it started giving me "redditinc" instead

Anyone know of a fix for this?

Weird bar when dragging Firefox from one screen to another

I get this weird bar beneath the bookmarks bar every time I drag my Firefox from one screen to another. None of the buttons on the bar function, not even the X button, so I have to refresh the tab every time I want to get rid of it. What is it and is there a way to disable it permanently?

I've attached the image below. The bar is the only thing not blurred.

[Windows 11, FF 125.0.1 ] The "GPU" Task Frequently Leaks Memory

It also HOGS other resources like CPU very VERY frequently. This Happens multiple times within a day. The browser becomes extremely Sluggish, laggy, and slow for about 10 seconds. The entire browser window then becomes blank ( after ~10-12 seconds ) and the issue fixes itself.

\"GPU\" Task takes up 7+ GB of Memory.

Bug with cleaning history? Version 125.0.1

Start Firefox, open any web page e.g. YouTube, go to start screen, clean history, close Firefox, run Firefox again - it will (often) open previously closed page in new tab. Happened too in Incognito mode, but you have to press Ctrl+Shift+T.

What is Firefox ESR?

To the point: I really like Firefox, but I find its user interface and stability lacking. So, I thought about making my own version. When I searched online, I found this Firefox source documentation website: https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org and learned about Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release). People mention that Floorp uses Firefox ESR, but what does that mean exactly?

What I want is to keep the Gecko engine and all the features of Firefox but customize the user interface and add extra features from other browsers. For example, Arc browser is built with Swift but based on Chromium. Similarly, I want to create a browser in Swift with Firefox's features. How should I go about it? I hope that makes sense.

When does release channel hit the Play Store on Android?

I'm new to Android and using Firefox.

I see that the releases website says that Firefox Android 125 was offered to the release channel on April 16. Yet, days later, the latest version on the Play Store in the US is 124.x.

Why is this? Is there a faster way to get the newest releases than even the Play Store?

Is it possible to duplicate a tab without reloading it, like actually make a copy of it?

When I duplicate a tab, a new tab is created with the same URL and I have to wait for it to download again. Why wouldn't Firefox just duplicate all the data of the tab into a new tab?

Any update on having a shortcut for searching opened tabs?

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/silca9/i_desperately_need_a_single_shortcut_for_search/

I don't like having 3 strokes to search tabs. Google chrome has one and you can immediately start searching, as do any other chrome derived browsers as well.

Keeping phones Sync separate

I created a FF profile in my desktop that I only use for the sync. In there I have sync'd phones A,B & C. However, I also have phone D, I want to sync to the same desktop but I want it to be separate from the sync of A,B & C.

It occurs to me I should create another FF profile in the Desktop for phone D, but I'll also have to use another email logon/password

Is there a better way?

Firefox lands on old tab when opening a link from other apps on iOS

Sometimes when I open links outside of firefox, it will open the link in a new tab, but Iโ€™ll end up landing on one of my older tabs. Maybe something to do with settings? I have new tab settings set to blank page under general.

Penpot is unusable on firefox rather than on chrome

I don't know what is causing this. But using https://design.penpot.app on firefox is really bad. I just tried a demo design they have provided on it, a plants app design. And its straight unusable. Stutters on scroll, zoom and pretty much any action. Is this the case with everyone or is it some issue of mine ?

Logging into reddit, fails with Firefox, works with Chromium. Why?

I'm a long time Firefox and reddit user, mostly on Linux.

My problem: Lately, when I try to use Firefox to login to reddit.com/login with my usual user name and password, the reddit dialog reports: Invalid username or password

When I attempt to login with Chromium, it lets me (with the same username and password).

I've tried starting Firefox, a) without addons running, b) from another user account, but it still won't let me login. Firefox works normally, otherwise. For example: logging into Amazon.com works fine.

Anyone know how to get Firefox to work? Thank you.

My system running Arch Linux, Plasma, kernel: 6.8.7 on an Intel Thinkpad T480:

  • Firefox: 125.0.1

  • Chromium: 124.0.6367.60

Why am I able to use reddit (blocked in my country) from firefox without configuring any vpn or proxy myself?

Hi,
I have noticed for a quite a long time that i can access reddit in my country without a vpn when I am in firefox. Why is that? AFAIK my country has reddit blocked. I tried using ping reddit.com, but I get host not found in that case, neither I can access reddit from any other browser.

Why am I able to use reddit from firefox without implementing any proxies or vpns myself?

any way to automatically scroll a certain amount?

this is a particular, annoying problem with some large-image webcomics, which just boiled over for me yesterday trying to read girl genius. every page, i have to click next and scroll down half a page to get the comic in view and then mouse to the new spot that the next button ends up. is there any way to get firefox to remember that i want to view say, a particular region of a page on load, or scroll all the way to the bottom every time? an extension or something?

it's manageable with a portrait-oriented monitor but that precludes zooming to make the part of the page i want to look at fill the screen.

Firefox stops 'drawing', need help to troubleshoot

I'm currently on linux (debian bookworm 12, Mozilla Firefox 115.10.0esr). I have a recurring problem where a window and all of it's tabs become completely unresponsive, switching tabs just appear as grey, and the window needs to resized to 'update' (draw, or redraw, I guess), which only works some of the time. However, if I drag a tab off into a new window, and then move all existing tabs to this new window, everything works fine, until the issue occurs again, which normally takes 2-3 hours. I have not been able to identify a single site or file or anything that causes the issue to occur. The issue occurs regardless of the usual 'problem' sites you might expect (reddit, youtube, other high-resource sites), such as when I am just reading local PDFs.

I have a sneaking suspicion that firefox isn't the cause, not that I could justify it. This issue does not occur in any other application. Is this a known issue? Is there some way to rule out firefox as the cause? It seems very strange and telling to me that moving all existing tabs to a new window eliminates the issue. Is it possible for a window to become 'stale' or something not regarding the tabs which it contains?

I would appreciate any guidance on things to try or look at to point me in a direction towards resolution.
