Garnet Vs Scions

Hey all, I have a quick rules question regarding the Garnet Promo card and The "The scions of the seventh Dawn" promo card.

Garnet: if you control 8 or more Category IX forwards, you can't lose the game.
Scions: If you control 10 or more job scions of the seventh dawn, your opponent loses the game.

I know the chances of both of them being out and their conditions being triggered is really low and unless something very strange is happening. However, I am curious, what would happen? Who would win?

Never played a card game like this. What set or kit do I need to buy to get started and play?

I’m seeing a bunch of different packs on the SE store. Any advice? Thanks.

Question about card wordings. I am still very new to this game and don't understand a ton. I mostly play Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. With the following card does "cancel its effect" just mean negate it and does that permanently negate it if that is the case? I'm just nore sure.

The Struggle is Real

Just started a few months ago playing the game. There are so many decks I want to try out, but currently (got some of the new boxes, the 2022/2024 anniversary boxes, and some starter decks) I only have some of the cards to physically build the decks with. Luckily the local group I found doesn't mind proxies, but it is hard to be patient and buy the cards slowly over time so that my wallet doesn't scream at me XD.

Old Lightning Deck

Hi all,

I was clearing my office and found my old FFTCG stuff (including a full set of Opus 1-4 in folios) I had a Lightning character themed deck and was wondering if anyone could look it over. Ideally I’m after any recommendations from waves 1-4 as odds are I’ve got enough spares to do the swaps.

The deck is: 1x Odin 1-124 1x Eden 2-099 1x Lightning (Ravager) 1-141 2x Lightning (Ravager) 1-210 2x Exdeath 3-100 3x Lightning 3-118 1x Lightning 4-115 3x Lightning PR-003 2x Lulu 1-149 2x Lightning 1-142 3x Odin 1-123 1x Al-Cid 2-097 2x Gilgamesh 1-207 2x Noel 1-208 3x Lulu 1-150 1x Kain 2-103 3x Dragoon 3-120 3x Black Mage 3-106 2x Maqui 1-209 3x Black Mage 2-108 2x Rygdea 1-211 2x Reeve 2-119 3x Cait Sith 1-132 2x Ramuh 1-143

Worth getting back into?

I haven't played since Opus IV was released and I'm just wondering if, after all this time, the game is worth trying to get back into.

Has the game drastically changed since then? Has Power Creep been a problem?

Rarity

Can someone please help me understand something. Firstly, just how rare are full art foils and secondly are pre release full art foils valuable?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a gorgeous full art foil bahamut card, but it's an VIII (I think) pre release, and the guy wants £20 for it. I woupd treasure and keep it just for the artwork and the nostalgic value it holds to me, but I'm thinking are pre release cards like this one common?

Where to buy

Was just curious if there are any big box retailers that sell packs for this game or if it is all online and local game shops?

Is there an app that lets you scan your cards to an online collection?

As the title states. I am just now getting into this game and bought a few packs. I was wondering if there was anything similar to say, Delver Lense for scanning in cards and uploading a list to a collection site?

Upgrading the 2024 anniversary starter deck and which packs to get.

What cards out of the anniversary box should I add into the starter deck? What packs should I target when looking to upgrading? I figure buying singles will be the cheapest but I also want to start creating a collection. Any help would be great, a link to a video on what all to upgrade would also be rad.

Mono Ice Decklist and where to buy?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me a good Mono Ice decklist. I used to play back in Opus 1 to 5, and Im so lost right now, I tried to search some decks but I found a lot of different recipes and I dont know now which one is good.

Or if anyone could tell me some good staples for Mono Ice decks, that would be awesome too!

Also, is there any good page to buy singles? Based in USA hopefully. Thank you very much in advance people!

I have a few questions a new player

I and a loved one have picked up starter decks and a few packs because we truly love FF. As a joke, I said I would buy starter decks if we pull a character that we name before opening a pack. She picked Estinien because she was going based on the pack cover art and actually pulled him (lol). We have since run into a few snags since we got starters. We have no scene in our area.

So I had a few questions:

1: Is there an app or a way to play with other players? I know MTG has Arena, and pokemon has their own app. Just wanted to expand our knowledge in a better way.

2: How expensive does the game get if we wanted to migrate into competitive at some point? How relevant do they stay in "rotation"? (If there even is one)

3: What are some must-have products we should look out for? I hear about anniversary collections and such but also see a lot of starter decks. Is it an ok idea to buy a box of a new set and go from there, or is the return better on just buying singles?

4: What are some of the better websites for card information? Competitive rankings, databases, etc. I want to be aware of what cards are actually worth and see opinions on what is good and why.

Thanks for any and all responses. I just want to establish a good base for upward momentum with our favorite franchise lol

Beginner here - general playstyle of the game?

Hi everyone, I apologise for the long post.

My friend and I decided to get into the Final Fantasy TCG recently as we're both big fans of the video game series. We picked up two starter decks: FFX and FFXIII (from I believe what is now called Opus I?)

We played three (mostly practice) rounds to make sure we understood the rules correctly. It was fun and I plan on getting more cards anyway to try and get into deckbuilding more in-depth - but I still had some doubts about strategy and the nature of the game more generally.

In all three rounds, the player who was more 'aggressive' with their gameplay, especially with their Forwards, ended up winning. Not only that, but it was a snowball effect with the losing player feeling like there was really nothing they could do to avoid their fate.

Due to Forwards having (from what I understand anyway) 'summoning sickness', it seemed to us as though whoever got two or more Forwards on the field first ended up winning (they could attack first, and as I said from then on it was a snowball effect). I understand traits like Haste and Summon cards may be helpful in those scenarios, but there are very few resources to be able to play them and/or they are extremely situational.

The game was fun at the beginning and I could see the different possibilities and synergy with the cards I had (I tried both decks) but at one point all I could do was play Forwards so they could absorb some damage but let the rest of the opposing player's Forwards 'finish me off', so to speak.

My question for expert/more experienced players is - is this what the game is like, strategically? Or is this due to us being inexperienced/the starter decks we're playing with? I understand it's impossible to give a clear opinion without knowing what the matches actually looked like but I welcome any opinions or thoughts. Like I said, I'm still keen to get more into the game in general :) Also as a note, I won 2 out of the 3 rounds with each deck respectively, so not being a sore loser here, just making some observations on gameplay.

TL;DR: Just started playing FF TCG with FFX and FFXIII starter decks. Felt as if all you need to do to win is play aggressively with Forwards regardless of strategy, abilities, etc. to start a snowball effect. Is this what the game usually plays like, or did I misunderstand some rules/being too 'pessimistic'?

Chaos Walker of the Wheel ruling question

Does the opponent get to play the new forward for free? They still have to pay for the forward right?

Question regarding Squall (1-041) - can he kill a blocker with his ability before taking damage?

It's been a long time since I played and I can't remember how this card works exactly.

Squall has 6000 power. The text reads:

  • When Squall blocks or is blocked, choose 1 Forward. You may deal it 6000 damage.
  • Renzokuken Icon - Special Ice Crystal: Squall gains First Strike until the end of the turn.

Scenario 1 - Squall is attacking, and becomes blocked by a 6000 power forward. Can Squall kill the blocking forward and take no damage in return?

Scenario 2 - Squall is blocking a 12000 power creature. Can Squall deal the 6000 damage to the attacking creature, and then activate Renzokuken and deal 6000 first strike damage to kill the attacking creature without dying?

Many thanks.

question about boxes

hey all, new to the FF TCG but I bought a box of Dawn of heroes and after opening all the packs I was surprised that the majority of cards I got seemed to contain almost identical numbers of all the rare cards. With the exception of maybe 2-3 cards I got 3 of each of the rares and the common cards were all 4-5 of each. Is this normal or was that just a super bizarre box?

Any new player gameplay tips?

Hi, I've been playing and enjoying this card game a lot and have decided to main this one over magic but after a few matches, I realize I struggle a lot to beat my opponent.

So was wondering if anyone has any tips to get better at the game?

One question I do have, on my first turn, how do I know whether to hold onto a summon or to discard it for cp if I have no clue yet what my opponent is playing? In magic, since we have land cards, I don't need to worry about wasting a spell card since mana are generated by lands. How do you guys know what to keep?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
what would you recommend for a new player looking to start the Final Fantasy TCG? Which packs or sets should I buy as a beginner?

What do you think about priming?

The article about basis of priming has been out for some time, yet I see no discussions about it.

I personally think that it is, again – as LB side deck, a dud. However much bigger this time.

Not only it looks that priming will be mostly tied to only one Category, but mostly because this game does not need another search effects.

One thing I really like about priming is being able to use S ability from cards of both Names. This is something I would like to see more in the game. In general S-Abilities are underutilized in FFTCG (Chaos, being exception making the rule).

I am able to attack a forward that is in dull position?

Hey, i have been playing FFTCG for like 2 months and in all this time I used the rule that let me attack directly a Dull forward but now my friend asked me if it's really possible. I have been searching it everywhere and now I'm confused. It's really possible?

Looking for Cincinnati Players

Just getting into the game and started collecting some cards. Facebook is giving me the run around for creating an account so I was hoping to ask here if there are any in person meet-ups for playing in Cincinnati. Thanks!

How popular is this game?

I can't work out how popular this game is, and judging by the volume of Spanish and German booster boxes of old that are being sold for peanuts on ebay, I'm guessing it's not that popular in those countries. I absolutely love the final fantasy franchise and have played and loved most titles post 6, I know how popular the video games are so I would have thought the card game would be equally popular.

My main reason for the post is I'm wondering whether to sell the booster boxes I have at the moment (3 sealed english version boxes) as sealed boxes, or individually as booster packs,or just enjoy opening them and putting together a collection.

Any advice on how I should proceed would be appreciated :)

Newer playing looking to learn about older sets. What's a quick summary of each of them?

I started with Opus 23/Hidden Trials and I guess at this point I'm pretty familiar with it, but my knowledge of the older sets is pretty sparse, so I'm interested in learning more so I can get a better sense of what sets are worth chasing and what a good deal is if I see it in the wild. Here's what I gleamed based on availability/prices I've seen locally and online, but feel free to correct me:

Opus 1: The first set was underpowered, but is still expensive - probably more due to collectability rather than power. Shantotto is still a staple but not much else.

Opus 2-5: Underpowered, unwanted, boxes are somewhat available online and on the Marketplace group.

Opus 6-10: ???

Opus 11-15: Covid era, possibly underprinted?

Opus 16-17: print runs increased around here, 17 in particular seems extremely abundant with full boxes being available at every store that carries FFTCG for ~$60 USD.

Opus 18-19: print runs still increased, but I think 18 introduced FA signature cards which gives sealed product a bit more lasting value

Opus 20-21: 20 seems to have a lot of bangers, 21 less so

Opus 22: "Hidden" trilogy starts, introducing LBs; probably the biggest mechanical shakeup ever. Is this where drafts go from 4 to 5 packs?

Opus 23: Light Monster theme, LBs are expanded upon. Less demand for this set than 22 for some reason based on availability, but that might also be due to age.
