Keep it Civil - Please be polite and respectful to others. Don't call people names or make personal attacks. We'll remove harassing comments and ban repeat offenders.
Be Careful with spoilers - We protect spoilers for mainline titles, from the first Final Fantasy to the latest, unless it is something Square Enix have openly advertised. Protections for spinoff titles are more relaxed. However, maliciously spoiling games for others will result in action taken.
Offsite Promotion - Offsite promotion can include any content in a post or comment that directs users to a personal platform outside of Reddit (YouTube channel, social media, blog, etc), whether it is yours or someone else's. We allow these posts at a ratio of 10:1 comments to promo posts. Links inside of reddit (Reddit image video uploader) and on our content whitelist do not fall under the 10:1 requirement. Action may be taken with repeat offenders.
Post Quality - A post is considered low effort if it cannot generate discussion. This includes unremarkable or common screenshots, including trophies/achievements. Image submissions must be essential for conversation - an image alone is not enough of a discussion prompt. A submission is considered off topic if the content of the post is not directly related to Final Fantasy. Posts in a series must have at least 72 hours between submissions.
Use the "which game" megathread - If you have a question such as or "Where should I start with the series?" or "Which game should I play next?", please post them in the designated megathread pinned on the front page of the sub.
Meme Mondays - Due to community feedback, this subreddit has disallowed certain types of posts - memes/image macros, including tier lists- outside of "Meme Monday". For this purpose "Meme Monday" runs from 12:00 am EST to 11:59 pm EST. Therefore, any meme submissions posted outside of this time will be removed.
Fan Created Content - Any fan created content (fanart, cosplay, etc) must credit the original artist in the title, whether that is you or someone else. Cosplay may only be submitted by the cosplayer. Due to community feedback, the subreddit also observes a "Fan Content Friday"; any submission of fan made content may only be posted on Friday, no more than two such submissions are permitted each Friday. AI-generated art is prohibited. For cosplay posts, you must select the cosplay flair when submitting.
No Illegal and explicit content - Any post or content discussing ROMs, pirated content, copyright infringement, sales, or pornography will be removed.
Show decency and courtesy to cosplayers - Do not harass or mistreat cosplayers or anyone sharing an image of themselves. This includes insulting one's appearance, sexual objectification, accusations of "stealth advertising" offsite socials or similar statements, and general unkindness. If you violate this rule, you will be permanently banned from the subreddit even with no prior warnings. See this announcement for further context.

I’m currently playing through the pixel remasters and after finishing 1 with no real issues I decided to play VI next. How the hell were people navigating this game without any guidance back in the day!? I couldn’t even get out of South Figaro without using a guide. Mad props to the old school gamers that beat this game by pure exploring.
I haven't played them all, but hear are my favorites from each one I have played:
Ff3:"me too. Slacking off saved her from the curse,so maybe that 'luck' will rub off on us!" -luneth
Ff4:"you spoony bard!" -tellah
Ff5:"yes, the twelve legendary weapons. They are weapons.they are legendary. There are even twelve of them" -ghido
Ff9:"R-rusty?! I am Captin Adelbert Steiner, Captin of the knights of pluto, and I will never work with you conniving theives!" -steiner
Ff12:"I play the leading man. Who else?" -batheir.
This game is hitting me hard for many reasons. I know the gameplay isn't traditional for the series but it's delivering exactly all the vibes that made me love the older games,
I just beat FF4 PR and I loved it. Thought it was really good. Thinking of getting a final fantasy game for my mobile (I bought FF4 on PlayStation). I’ve so far played 4 and 6, with 6 being my favorite so far. I’ve heard the other games aren’t as up to quality and 4 and 6, but regardless I am interested in the other games. So, which game should I start with next? Remaining is 1, 2, 3, and 5.
I'm at the final dungeon of the pixel remaster and have decided to max each character, only problem is that i'm not sure what magic i should asign each character that fits. Although there's no real classes in this game, i feel pretty confident in saying that firion is a paladin, leon a dark knight and maria a black mage (which leaves guy as a white mage?) but what magic fits each class? i'm trying to be as canon as possible while also having every spells in the game on at least one character. any good ideas?
To give a little background of myself, i studied in the music academy audiovisual composition, which basically means a BA in composition with the added layer of the visual side. The classes were mostly shared with people that studied to be "actual" composers so the program wasn't "dumbed down" that much.
That said, i would love to hear if there is anyone else out here with a degree in composition or anything similar. I'm interested in how you view something like "To Zanarkand" or the other top tier of FF music in general?
Is it predictable to you, is it cheesy after studying "classical music" (not gonna go into why that term is a bad term, not the point of the discussion) through and through? Do you only like it because you spent so much time with the game or do you see some inherent value in it as a standalone piece, and see Nobuo Uematsu as an equal to your Chopin's and Bach's of the world?
To Zanarkand Live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSjTN8WSGNk
Did you ever ask from your lecturers what they thought of FF music? I hope there are some people in the community, would love to hear some takes. But even if you aren't a musician, do you think the pieces hold up against other "classical" music?
So basically the title, at the moment I’ve played VI (OMW to finish it), viii (didn’t like it very much and haven’t finished it but I’m close to the end), and finished IX, X, XIII, XIV (finished MSQ of ARR) and XV.
As soon as I’m done with VI I want to jump into a new series but have been doubting which one to get. I play mostly on my switch but can also do PC although it is less accessible to me as I travel a lot. Having that in mind, would you still recommend the Remake and Rebirth over the old FFVII!??
Many thanks!
EDIT: Mainly my question was directed at if it was worth playing the old ffvii or if the remake and rebirth are too good to miss at all
I recently got the physical edition for super cheap, I'm wondering if the game is still playable. I doubt I will find people playing online, and I'm fine with playing the offline mode, if there is any.
Will I be able to unlock everything just by playing offline? I know the game doesn't have as much customization and story mode as the PSP games, but is it possible to still play it?
I grew up on the original FF7, it’s one of my favorites games of all time. I also love JRPG’s. You think the remake would be right up my alley. So part 1 was an instant buy for me. The problem is I hated the new combat. System it just seemed like the enemies where just damage sponges and the combat was too fast and I just want very good at it. I disliked the hectic nature of combat.
Fast forward to now, and I hear rebirth is amazing. I’ve been wanting to give it a try.
Question is; is rebirth any different from part1? If I didn’t enjoy the combat in part 1 would part 2 be any different?
Thanks
hi! i just started tuning into final fantasy yesterday (because of sephiroth lol) but i thought that the game itself is pretty interesting!
therefore, may i ask about the whole lore of the game? like, what is it about? why are there a lot of final fantasy games (please bare with me, i know nothing about the game at all) i tried reading in the final fantasy wiki something but it's not quite helping for me 😅
also, are there any materials you guys can recommend for me to read about the lore? (for the game and sephiroth cuz im quite curious about his background especially i read he was taken from his mom the day he was born and he was an experiment? then he was once protagonist turned antagonist? (correct me if i am wrong ^)) speaking of it, i would gladly read your pretty lengthy answers!
thank you in advance!
ps: im too broke to afford the game even broke to afford a playstation so i will just probably watch and read the game
I've tried looking around for information, but the closest things I've found were "tangential" at best (like Ted Woosley's initial involvement or that RPGe fan-translation).
Anyone know how that official "train-wreck" came to be?
They started with the PS1 classic sound, followed by this FF (inspired) start menu. I have to confess... My eyes was flooded in that moment.
So basically as the title says, what is your favourite non mainline Final Fantasy (or Final Fantasy adjacent) title/series and why?
For me it would have to be the Tactics games, the story telling is amazing and deep. How in-depth the combat system and character customisation is I’ve always loved. But I might be biased, living in the UK there was a lot of JRPGs that never made it over here in the 90s and when I imported it there wasn’t many (I can only think of Vandal Hearts at the moment) other TRPGs, so it was my first. So it was the starting point of my love for the genre.
God it was expensive being a JRPG fan in the UK in the 90s.
More recently I grown to love World of Final Fantasy, blame my love all things cute (try to have Reynn and Lann in jiant form as little as possible 😜) and Pokémon lol
I only played FFVII, and im looking foward to playing other games: FFX, FF1-6 (Pixel collection), and possibly this game. But i did heard some mix bags about it some people like it and top favorite while some people dont like it, i heard the story was mixed and confusing and the open world i dont know but looks amazing, and the gameplay looks outstanding compared to Final Fantasy Vii remakes (ik remake came out after ffXV). But yes i generally see this game look pretty good in my perspective, but is it worth it?
Hi,
For high graphics games, I was usually more a console gamer than a PC gamer. The last console I bought is a PS4 and since PS5, I'm less and less enthusiast to buy consoles, except for Nintendo. I play pc games since years, but it's only for indies, retro games or AA at most.
I tried Final Fantasy XVI demo on my table PC even if it's not perfect, the performance and the graphics are enough good for me. But only on the computer monitor. When I plug the computer on our big smart tv, the graphics are not good anymore. They are ugly.
I don't have this problem for the retro games I played on my tv. It's only for Final Fantasy XVI.
Do someone know why? Is that a high graphics games problem? Or a Final Fantasy problem? Can I do something about it?
Thanks.
Edit: My computer monitor is 20 inches and it runs well and it looks good. My Nvidia rtx 3060 graphic card is handling it very well in High Quality settings.
But when it's in my 4k 65 inches Samsung tv, we see pixels. When something moves, there is a line in the center of the screen where the picture is distorted.
I've been playing FF games since my teens, (haven't played majority of them though), and a question popped up in my head one night: has there been a main final fantasy game that the main character was a parent (or becomes a parent during the game like DQ5)
If there hasn't, do you guys think it's high time we get a FF game that centers around parenthood? (Like the modern day god of war games) I'm at that age myself and looking for an FF that is relatable in those regards.
Hi. I'm looking for a walkthrough guide that I can follow where the materia for each chapter are clearly labeled (so I don't miss picking up any materia) and where there is a clear photo location of the materia.
The best guide I found was the one at game8.co: https://game8.co/games/Final-Fantasy-VII-Rebirth/archives/Walkthrough-Chapter-1. It clearly lists the materia for each chapter in a color coded format which ensures I won't miss picking up a materia for that chapter.
However, that walkthrough guide doesn't show the photo location of where to find the materia, it just has a text description. The text description is better than nothing, but of course, a photo is easier to follow. Is there a better guide like the game8.co one where it clearly lists the materia for each chapter but also shows a photo with the location of the materia?
I beat 1 a while back and just recently just did 2 and 3 back to back. I’m about an hour into 4 and feeling a little burnt out now which is a shame but I guess it’s a be expected. Just curious to see if anyone else got burnt got out too ?
Looking for a new game and thought this would be a good option, will I still have people to play with?
Will I still get the achievement if I complete all of the trials on Final Fantasy Mode?
I recently decided to give a shot for FF series and I ended up with FF6 as my first entry because of the great music and atmosphere. I'm playing a patched GBA-version on an emulator and I got to say I was totally hooked when the opening started to play. It's hard for a zoomer like me to grasp something like this was released originally on Snes. It's awesome!
But the thing is that I totally suck at the gameplay. I'm only at the mountains where I'm supposed to get the last party-member because I'm slow and I pretty much only play at weekends to savour this experience. Can you give me tips to master the gameplay? And please avoid spoiling the game, it is a wonder how I've managed to ignore pretty much the entire FF-series so everything feels new and fresh to me.
Sorry if this is kind of a lame post but I don’t have any final fantasy friends and I’ve been playing through the series for the first time. Not to write them off but I opted to skip the 2D games and I’ve played a bunch of the newer games at this point. I see XIV a realm reborn for free on PlayStation which is the opening story but since I’d be by myself and it’s an MMO is it worth downloading and getting through it all solo which I heard isn’t ff at its best? It’s probably important to mention I’ve never played an MMO before.
Also XII is on sale and I’ve heard virtually nothing about it since joining the sub so I’d like to hear some opinions on that as well.
