Hey everyone, I was trying to import a clip into final cut and noticed that this clip has this logo on it while the others does not. What does it mean?
I'm trying to make an object look like it's embedded inside something (specifically, adding a third eye to a forehead) and I have the eye's masking and object tracking all set, but it really needs a shadow to sell the effect. Problem is, the drop shadow effect only casts downward onto the under layer which makes it look like the eye is floating above the forehead instead of embedded inside it.
What I want to do is reverse that effect so that the shadow gets cast from the border of the eye INWARD, like the shadow of an eye socket. If it were photoshop, I'd just apply a black "inner glow" to the layer blending options. Is there any equivalent to that effect in FCP?
There's some iPhone footage I added to the slog-2 clips and this is what popping up while exporting. I exported the video and the quality is v bad and sort of pixelated at places. Can anyone help me fix this? I appreciate the help.
I have a mostly complete movie done in final cut pro but I want to add a title image to the front of the project with some audio. I can add endlessly to the end of the project but I cannot figure out how to get something to go before the first clip. I try highlighting everything and dragging it to the right but it all just snaps right back into it's original position. I tried looking for the answer on google but no luck. Thanks for any help you can give me!
Hi,
I'm very new to video editing and fcpx both. I'm doing mostly screen recordings, and find myself constantly changing position and scale to highlight portions of the screen. I've been learning how to use keyframes, but I'm hitting some limitations and having trouble finding documentation on these specific things:
There is no 'duration' to a keyframe, correct ? If I place a keyframe to set scale to 120%, and want to hold it there for say a minute before returning to 100% what I'm doing now is adding the first keyframe setting that attribute to 120, and then coping it and keeping that second keyframe at 120 to create my "duration" before adding a third at 100% to finally return the scale back. Is there a better way of doing this ? I don't see any way of treating a keyframe as like a region of activity.
I spent hours last night doing nothing but scale and position and would have loved to have them each in their own video animation swim lane. is that possible ?
In general is there an easier way to deal with motion, or other UI tools to help with it ? I find the current interface for dealing with keyframes quite challenging, but also realize I have no idea what I'm doing and what drives design decisions in the video production world.
Is there a way or a shortcut for selecting these voices/clips and putting them together? Like removing the space between them
Hi all, I keep receiving this message from Final Cut Pro when I try to edit a project.
I restarted my laptop and now when I go to edit my event it won't let me and says this:
The storage location for one or more libraries is no longer available. The libraries will be closed so that no work is lost.
I'm super confused by this as none of the other events or projects in the library have the same issue when I go to edit them, and my library and event are located on my devices storage so it's not an external problem, plus I have 400gb of storage not in use so it's not a storage problem.
I've reset Final Cut preferences, checked account permissions, everything that's recommened on google.
Is this a glitch that can't be fixed? I've spent over 12 hours on this project so starting over isn't really an option.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I'm pretty sure the answer here is no, but might as well try. Is there any way to import my clip markers into FCP (as favorites)? The equivalent in DaVinci Resolve are markers, and that's what I'm able to export, but can it be imported?
Hi,
Trying to find a old plugin that simulates depth of field blur with a variety of blend modes. Does anyone know where I can redownload it? It was called Blur Focus v2. Thank you in advance!
Been running into an issue with the stabilization feature in FCP…after applying stabilization to a clip…it zooms in to such an insane level - I can’t even recognize anything anymore…then I tweak the parameters so I can actually see the clip again - but it’s basically like turning the feature off…I would leave it off, but it’s so shaky i get nauseous…I can only assume any viewer would too
I have it on on other clips as well…but they don’t have this problem…those clips will move the footage around within the frame to stabilize the image…enough so it’s at least watchable (I know the original footage isn’t the best…I’m just trying to salvage what I can)…with the zoom issue tho - it’s not even watchable
I’m actually okay with the footage moving around the frame to stabilize…it may not look the most professional I know…but it’s at least watchable
My question - how do I re-analyze the clip to get the footage to do that? (ie - move around the frame/not be zoomed in) Or is there any other way to fix this issue?
I tried turning stabilization off and then on again but it doesn’t fix it…it just goes back to the insane zoom
Hope this makes sense…Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hello lovely people. OMG there's a project Ive been working for weeks, and FCX crashed last night and since then every time i try to open it, it just crashes. It has an explanation mark as in the photo. Can you please direct me what can I do to fix it.
Morning all, I want to know if there is a way to create a library so that it opens up with two projects in it (vertical, and 4k). I know I can manually do it but would like to streamline the process.
I recently purchased FCP after using the 90 day trial. My library has ballooned already and I’ve been trying to figure out why I can’t get the library below about 100gb and I’ve deduced that the FCP trial’s library was separate (yet connected? Cause it still shows up as part of the same library in FCP). When I go to storage settings on my Mac and I click on the FCP library, it opens the trial, but I can’t open the trial cause I’m beyond the 90 day limit. Any ideas on how to clear the cache and other data from the trial after the trial has expired?
Hello! I am working on a documentary and saw that PP has text-based editing, and it was extremely helpful when going through interviews and looking for specific phrases and names. However, when importing video rendered by FCPX, things got a bit weird, and 3 out of the 6 videos ended up 75% smaller despite it being set to "fit." I selected and imported all 6 files at once, so they all should have been smaller, or none of them, right? (The files came from my colleague, and I checked they are normal in FCPX) Even worse I wasted time editing some of them in the hopes it was just the view settings. Anyway, I really, really prefer using FCPX. Is there an option for text-based editing that has been hiding in there all along? Or do I have to bite the bullet and buy the lumberjack plug-in. (Or finally, fully commit to learning Adobe PP)? I am grateful for any advice or suggestions to resolve this issue. Thank you.
I’ve been using FCPX since 2014 and I love how the things are simple and easy on it. But the lack of basic features on FCPX makes me want to change to premiere or DVR. Simple features like rulers and guides is something that doesn't make sense to me never been added to final cut. And we're not even talking about how much Apple is behind the competition in terms of AI, such as audio transcription and subtitles.
Would be nice to have the same features as the iPad os version.
As the thefinalcutprobro suggests, now’s a good time to back up your current FCP version

Just wondering why this happens, I can just boost the saturation back up to 58% in FCP and it'll look how it should be but yeah just a bit weird
Is it worth getting final cut pro if they going to make your own videos show your products off for freelance I got a M1 MacBook pro?
Trying to import a video to final cut pro to cut out some scenes. On the computer it says the FPS is about 53, when I put it in final cut pro it says the FPS of the video is 48.93 or there about. As a result I cant export in 50 fps and then next level is 30 fps. The quality difference is notable so I would like to keep it at 50.
Because it is at 48.9 I am not able to export the video with 50 fps settings.
Does anybody have a solution?
I just caught the tail end of the Keynote and the Final Cut Pro page has been updated already.
The iPad version will include external storage and Live Multicam which uses a companion app on iPhone or iPad.
Final Cut Pro 10.8 for Mac is announced too, still on the same perpetual licence (so if you've already bought it, it's a free update). "Leveraging the Neural Engine in Apple silicon, new AI features and organizational tools come to Final Cut Pro 10.8."
The release date is "later this spring"
Hi All, I got a new MacBook Pro in July 2023, I had Final Cut Pro installed on my previous computer which I had had for over 6 years. I went to the App Store application to try and redownload it into my new computer, I know for sure I purchased it years ago, but it is not in my purchases or downloads. Does anyone have any advice?
Hello, I am in the process of trying to learn Final Cut / Motion. I’m trying to build one of our After Effects lower thirds in Motion, and was wondering if there was a way to bind position / scale of an object to the size/width of a text box. This would make the process much easier as I could use this in a Final Cut title. Thanks
So I’m making a video for my girlfriend which includes interviews from her friends and family.
Each person filmed their own interview. I asked them to turn HDR off on their iPhone as each person used an iPhone—some listened, some didn’t.
So now when putting the video together in FCP, I have some footage filmed in HDR and some filmed in SDR.
It seems that regardless of whether I make the library HDR or SDR, and regardless of the project general settings, the HDR footage is all extremely brightened and washed out.
What is there to do about this? Is manually color grading the HDR footage the only recourse?
