Human desire, urban decay, and environmental degradation are frequently explored by Filipino artist Ronald Ventura, who is well-known for his powerful, multi-layered compositions. His Shadow of Forest series (2014) demonstrates how he addresses the effects of human's impact on the environment using a variety of media, particularly paper and print. These paper sculptures represent environmental harm and the extinction of species by showing animals weighed down by trash. Ventura has worked with print and papermaking at STPI, an institution that focuses on repurposing materials, which is aligned with themes that Ventura portrays in his works such as issues including pollution and climate change. His 2012 exhibit with STPI, Recyclables highlights the delicate relationship that exists between humans and nature by highlighting a greater understanding of material origins.

Filipino National Artist Benedicto "BenCab" Cabrera has contributed to sustaining printmaking in the Philippines and aiding in changing the lowbrow perception into a greatly regarded medium. BenCab’s works often depict figures in rhythmic movement, rendered in earthy tones and flowing lines. His residency with the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI) in 2005 and 2010 allowed him to experiment with large-scale monoprints and mixed methods like lithography, etching, and collagraphy. His Dance Forms series, featuring vibrant, fiery-hued dancers, exemplifies his innovative approach, blending traditional techniques with modern themes. BenCab’s paper and print works attest to the powerful role of this medium in contemporary Filipino art and its potential to push the boundaries and offer new perspectives on the processes of art-making.

Chances of Contact: Contemporary Prints from the Philippines and Singapore brings together several artists from the two countries to explore the inter-media possibilities with printmaking. Among them are Filipino household names: Benedicto Cabrera and Lyra Garcellano.
BenCab, a National Artist for Visual Arts, exhibits his prowess in fusing social realism with intimate human experiences. His featured piece Lovers (2010), created from pigmented paper pulp, captures tender emotions weaved into his hallmark themes of social realism and postcolonial struggles. His work showcases a gripping mix of his traditional Sabelian techniques and the challenges of new printmaking methods, proving once again that he is, indeed, a master artist.
Garcellano uses her art to critique the very structures that shape the art world. Tagging the commercial art ecosystem as a “circus,” she strongly resists conformity and commodification. Her Trapdoor I (2011), a screenprint on lithograph paper, invites viewers to question the boundaries between the subject and the viewer while critiquing standards of feminine beauty. Though often inspired by Philippine historical narratives, she is not so much concerned about reinterpreting history as she is about questioning the systems in which art operates.
Apart from the many other artists featured, these two exemplify the exhibit’s exploration of the overlapping of mediums, history, and social criticism. Through their distinct styles and methods, they explore the possibilities of printmaking yet to be exhausted. They go head-to-head with the boundaries imposed by both colonial legacies and modern artworld dynamics, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary printmaking.

Hi everyone! My classmates and I are preparing an exhibit on Maranao culture for an upcoming contest during Linggo ng Wika. The theme focuses on endangered languages in the Philippines, and we aim to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Maranao people.
We’re thinking of highlighting aspects like traditional arts, the iconic Torogan houses, and the Sarimanok symbol. We’d also like to include some multimedia elements, like videos or interactive displays. Our resources are limited, and we have only 18 days left, so we need to be creative and resourceful.
We’d appreciate any suggestions on:
I look forward to hearing your ideas and tips! Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello, everyone! I would like to humbly ask for help in answering our survey or questionnaire, mainly Physical Self-regulation as part of our partial fulfillment for BS Psychology course. Hi anybody! Just wanna ask if there’s a scholarship program for incoming Senior Highschool students? Needed ASAP. Schools near Laguna if possible. And how to apply?
Hi everyone!
I posted this questionnaire last year in various Filipino reddit groups and I am very thankful for everyone who participated. However, I still need a few more participants to go through the next step of my research and I apologize for asking you again. This is because we have had a lot of difficulties gathering data from the Philippines and this is (so far) the only way we could reach out to our target respondents, which are Filipinos.
So, once again, I'm a 3rd year undergraduate student from Taiwan conducting a research study focused on the Philippines. We believe it is important for us to conduct disaster-related studies on the Philippines as it is very prone to natural hazards.
Please spare me a few minutes of your time to answer my questionnaire, it's about the intention of Filipino citizens to purchase first-aid kits for disaster preparedness.
Thank you so much for your time and effort!

Hi everyone!
I hope you’re all having a wonderful day. I’m currently working on my thesis for the final semester of my Master’s Program and I could really use your input.
The focus of my thesis is on reimagining the CCP Complex to ensure it provides equal opportunities for every Filipino. Your thoughts, ideas, and unique perspectives are invaluable to me and I’d love to incorporate them into the narrative of this project.
Could you spare a few minutes to fill out this survey? [ https://forms.gle/DzAZKNj6ydKRbM8r6 ].
Your feedback is crucial in helping make the CCP Complex a space that truly represents us all.
Thank you so much for your help and support! Participating in this survey not only aids me in completing my thesis but also contributes to reshaping one of our iconic landmarks.
Big thanks in advance!
P.S. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think would enjoy contributing their insights. The more diverse the feedback, the better!

May katumbas ba sa wikang Filipino ang salitang 'priestess'? Tama bang sabihin na ang Priestess ay Babaeng Pari? Salamat sa mga sasagot!
I saw this posted on one of my art groups and got drawn to them. I have surmised it to come from the natives of the Mountain Province, the Igorot of the Cordillera region in Northern Luzon, but I'm unsure about the specific subgroup.
I created this hypothesis based on the following observations:
• Statues are located in the U.S. and stamped Made in P.I.: as in Philippine Islands
• Statues depict facial features similar to common facial features found in indigenous groups
• Accessories, including pipes and beaded necklaces, which are resemblant of the artifacts found within native Igorot dwellers
• Wood carving is a known trade in the province as well
I've come across this article compiled by the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and this picture of a Bontoc man sourced from the National Geographic database, that supports earlier suspicions.
I'm curious to see anyone else's take. What is your opinion? Which peoples did this come from?
