When Capote and Babe are reviewing the room and the decor, the Plaza hotel manager comes in and Capote introduces Babe Paley to him; the manager says 'Hello Mrs P.'. It just struck me as very informal, but was that they style of the time? Babe doesn't seem affronted
How would you feel if they did some kind of music feud? Like Prince and Michael Jackson? Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey? Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nick's? I don't see Prince and Jacksin happening because of the Michael Jackson movie coming out. I would definitely like to see a Fleetwood Mac one though
I'm a big fan of Ryan Murphy, and his "Feud" series. I remember there was talk of a season focusing on Princess Diana and Prince Charles. They had even cast the leads: Matthew Goode and Rosamund Pike. I was so ready for that one, but it got squashed for reasons unknown. Ryan Murphy, if you're reading this, you should devote a season to the feud between Joan Fontaine and Olivia DeHavilland: two famous sisters, both successful in Hollywood, who had a lifelong feud until the very end.
Hey what was on there? An ashtray, a bloody mary/Ceasar, Ritz crackers, and maybe cheese and cavier?
đź‘‹ Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice/opinions please.
I've always known a bit about the Joan/Bette feud so I was quite interested in S1 going in.
I've never heard of this story that S2 is about. I don't want to watch if the show treats the audience like they're expected to know the situation without explaining it. So I'm asking is the story well told?
And is it good? I know everyone has their own opinion but it sounds a bit boring and I'm fed up wasting time on the "misses" of Ryan Murphy's very hit-and-miss projects.
I am sure this has been said a million times but I think a fun direction for season three would be to go back in time to the Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher and Elizabeth Taylor love triangle. There’s so much glamour around that era that it would fit right into the motifs of the show.
I loved it. I was enthralled- however they should’ve called it Capote vs Answered Prayers. That seemed to be the main conflict.
Since season 2 has ended, I was wondering if these few ideas would be good for the next season of feud. Some of them I thought about and they would be good for a Ryan Murphy show. Personally, I really think a Lil Kim vs Foxy Brown season has so much potential, it has a lot of backstory and a pretty wild climax
It's hit me what's wrong with this season. There's no feud.
A friend committing an offense and being cut off from a friend group is not a feud. This friend spending years trying to get back in that friend group is most certainly not a feud.
A feud requires ongoing hostilities and shots fired from both sides. We didn't get any of that.
Capote published La CĂ´te Basque, divulging secrets of his Swans to the public. His Swans were hurt and offended, and they cut him off. They didn't retaliate in any way, they didn't up the ante, they just cut him off. How is that a feud? It's not.
We were subjected to eight episodes of an estrangement.
Imagine Tucci and Zeta - Jones returning to these roles and all the potential cameos from current Hollywood stars playing classic Hollywood stars! I think it'd be interesting to see a studio wide feud portrayed.
I know this is premature and I'm sure it'll be a bit of time before we even hear whether they'll renew this show or not but I've some ideas for Season 3 of Feud.
Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine. Old Hollywood glamor; classic feud between 2 Oscar Winning sisters. I think Season 1 was supposed to segue into this and it didn't happen because of the lawsuit but maybe they can visit it again?
HRH Queen Elizabeth aka Queen Mum and Wallis Warfield Simpson. I know, I know that "The Crown" touched on this somewhat but...a lot more happened than what a few episodes showed. Perfect opportunity for bitchy one-liners; fashion and the chance to recreate some of their snubs that we see on social media (esp at Edward VIII's and Wallis' funerals).
I'm currently reading about this and I think it needs to be explored more: Eleanor Roosevelt vs Alice Roosevelt Longworth. 2 polar opposite cousins and both legendary. Segue into politics; turn of the century fashion and of course- Alice's witty one-liners. I know this may be somewhat difficult if some of the descendants' are alive but this would be a prime piece of history to explore.
Does anyone have the ratings for season 2? How did they compare to season 1?
I was so excited for this but I put it on hiatus after episode 4; however I just had a thought. I’m going to an event this year and will be in a part of the country where my personal politics/definition of religion/reality varies with the established local ethos.
My only wish is to focus on family stuff and not allow myself to be baited if loud opinions are expressed.
It occurred to me that I need to watch the rest of the series—or the entire series on repeat if necessary—because those women were masters of deflection when uncomfortable topics come up and I want to be prepared.
Count me in.
I was curious so I bought Answered Prayers and read the story. Oh, my God....it was so vicious! Far worse than I imagined. He not only accused her of murder, but he repeatedly said she was a whore and even claimed she had made up neighborhood burglaries to make people more inclined to believe it was a robbery gone bad (even though there were multiple burglaries).
It was a truly vile piece. His attacks on people were spiteful and ugly. And it wasn't even that well written. He completely deserved to be cut off completely and they had every right to turn on him.
What he did to Ann Woodward was just disgusting.
I'm so excited lol.
They had a famous rivalry that peaked when the two fought over a man, with lagerfeld coming out on top (lol) but it would be a good idea for a season:
They showed this chick in the audience, I think it was 1977
Downvote me if you must but this missed the mark in every way for me.
Zero character development (we were presumed to have known who these ladies were and the power they had). If I didn’t watch Real Housewives, Lee Radziwell would be a complete mystery to me. And the rest of them, outside of Babe and Truman are outside of my scope entirely.
That set work was appalling
No cohesiveness to the entire series in terms of story lines - I mean…why no background on Bill sleeping with literally everyone but I guess that goes back to my first point
I expected more from the fashions. My Grandma dressed better than that to go to the grocery store
I want a redo from the perspective of the women - one that I can actually watch all episodes of…
I noped out on this around E4 because it was a total snooze fest. I guarantee the real stories were 1000x more salacious than what we were given.
In general, I think Ryan Murphy has lost the superpower he once had. Nip/Tuck is unmatched in watch-abilty as an example.
AHS was must see tv that I don’t even watch anymore…could someone be doing Feud better?
I appreciate the dialogue and vintage pics shared by this group but I don’t know that I’ve got it in me to sit through another season of this…
s1 could have been incredible but was marred by overacting and over- directing and lack of character development. You can’t just assume everyone is going to know the backstory on these characters and without the backstory the feud doesn’t matter.
Why did their friendship end? I have seen it mentioned, but never the reason why? I have never seen Capote or Infamous, but will definitely check them out.
I stumbled upon a fantastic article written by Julie Baumgold for New York Magazine back in 1984 about Capote’s memorial called “Unanswered Prayers.”Apparently there were rival groups competing at the post-service luncheon, one of which was hosted by CZ Guest (you’ve gotta think Capote would have loved that). It’s a fascinating peek at the remains of the Swans who were present (Guest, Carson plus Katharine Graham) and also delves into where, exactly, Answered Prayers was (Jack Dunphy gives a great response to that). I’ve posted it here for anyone who would like to read it. It’s a great Coda to the whole story. Enjoy!
I never knew about these swans, but I did know about Andy Warhol and the factory and Edie Sedgwick. So when I was watching feud, I thought that Capote reminded me a bit of Andy Warhol, and how he exploited and used and abused women in his life. Does anyone else see these commonalities?
By the way, I absolutely love this show. I really thought that it could’ve lasted a little bit longer, but I’m not sure if anyone else could’ve handled it for that long. I would’ve liked to have seen some more character development of this swans.
Just a place to drop recommendations for movies, books, podcasts, etc. for more about anyone or anything depicted in the series.
I'll go first: Melanie Benjamin's novel The Swans of Fifth Avenue, which was third person from Babe's point of view.
The 2005 film Capote is sort of a prequel to the events of the series, but delves into his mind as he takes In Cold Blood from start to finish.
Someone please tell me who she is. Personally I loved this series enough to watch it twice but I am at a loss as to who she is. I have a guess but she looks much too young to be who I think she might be. Tia!
This was the most extraordinary episode of the series…
I was thinking about the series, and I thought one thing missing from season two was empathy.
It was hard to like any of the characters. I also felt they were shown in a harsh light, even to apparently making (negative) things up which apparently had never happened.
Season one by comparison seemed to have empathy for the women, no matter how hideous their job offers, or lives, became. It showed them as brave and it showed their suffering.
What do you think of either or both seasons as far as this question: Empathy. Did they show any? Did you feel any?
