FJ getting too much air and not enough gas

For the past couple days my 2007 fj has been shaking worse than usual and not wanting to accelerate. I went to auto zone they checked it out and told me it’s getting too much air and not enough gas. Any ideas on where to start? I changed out the mass air flow sensor a few months back. Thanks for any input

Can a 3" lift kit be adjusted after installation

Hey everyone!

I have a unique question regarding lift kits. In October 2023, I purchased a Bilstein 3 inch lift kit. The shop I had install it recommended to me that because I had stock tires that I should adjust the kit to stock height until I can afford bigger tires and then have it adjusted to 3 inches. I now have the money to purchase new wheels and tires, but before I go into a shop and sound dumb, is it possible to adjust the height of a 3 inch lift kit that's been set to stock after this long or do the shocks and struts settle into a certain height after driving on them for awhile?

Also, just for fun, what are your favorite tire sizes and brands that don't require a Body Mount Chop?

Let’s have a debate - buy now or wait?

Many of us here plan to own an FJ someday — some are searching for one right now, some are planning on buying one in the future.

For most people, I would imagine this means selling their current vehicle for the FJ, and making it their daily.

For me, this means selling my Jeep. I have a 4-dr Wrangler JKU with leather seats, lift, big tires, etc. beautiful vehicle that has 99,000 miles on it. It’s a manual, paint is perfect, suspension is tuned.

It’s crazy to me that, despite having 100k fewer miles, my Jeep is valued almost EXACTLY the same as an FJ with 200k miles and 2-3 years older.

I COULD own both but that seems silly and I don’t have the garage space. It also seems silly to go from a newer, lower mileage vehicle to an older higher mileage vehicle.

My question for you all:

Has anyone made a switch like this? Do you have regrets? Will the FJ actually last longer and be more reliable? I’m torn lol.

Tyger Fury Auto Bumper suspension question

My FJ is pretty stock but thinking about getting a tyger fury auto bumper just because it looks dope but i had a question about suspension. I have standard suspension(no lift) and i was wondering if putting this bumper on (weighs 70-90 pounds) will drastically effect my suspension over time and sag of the front. Do i need to get new coils or springs before getting this bumper? Also will this rub my tires they are pretty much stock size but new bf goodrich ko2s. Any suggestions or comments are much appreciated.

New dash and rear camera

Wired in the new dash and rear camera system. Hadn’t been able to see out the back window because of the swingout bumper and 35” tire. Now I can see again!

2012 TT 6MT $?

Unfortunately might have to sell soon. Any thoughts on a fair asking $? As title says, 2012 Trail Teams 6mt, 107k miles, full service history, all done at 1 dealership where it was initially purchased. Lived in Southern California all its life. Completely stock, ( apart from Japanese speck side mirror glass replacement) VERY clean, no issues at all, spotless Carfax. Also any thoughts on best place to sell? Thanks in advance

Buying a second FJ

I have an 08 with 300k that my daughter wants for her first car. Thrilled to be able to hand it down.

I plan to buy a second FJ and I’m looking at 2010-12 4WD with less than 100k, hopefully for around 25k.

Is this the right move to stay in my budget? Or is there a clear advantage in the 2013-14 models, even with a little more miles?

Why you bought your FJ

Who all bought their FJ for the off roading ability and who bought it for the unique look and all the cool features? Would love to hear other reasons as well. Just curious!

What's the best sounding muffler in y'alls opinion for the FJ? (Video clips would be appreciated!)

I'm looking for a good exhaust sound, and really just looking for a muffler, I don't want to spend hundreds on the same damn cat-back pipes I already have, just newer. I'm at a bit of an impasse though, for what I really need and want:

My first choice was a Flowmaster FX, straight-through pipe. I LOVE this sound. One of the best for a truck/engine of this style. The muffler, which I suppose is the only sound-making part in a cat-back system, is only $60. Now, I would have already gotten it except for ONE major issue: I live in the Northeast US. We salt roads like Philly fuckers salt pretzels. FlowMaster makes their shit outta 409 steel. Apparently, that grade SUCKS for salt corrosion and people in my region hate FlowMaster because they fully rot out in like, 4 years. I don't want to deal with that. My FJ is rusty as is.

I'm now in the market for a new one that's made with better steel for my region. 306 if I'm not mistaken. But I don't know how many of them sound on FJs. Not every company has videos of their exhaust sounds, let alone for the FJ or any truck with the same engine. This is where you guys come in.

What muffler have y'all put on, that has the best sound, balancing actual volume and aggressive sound, that isn't ear-splitting or whisper quiet, and neither JDM fart-can sounding, or Cummins Diesel "BOOOORRRRRR" sounding? If y'all have video clips to share, I would really, really appreciate that too, so I can really narrow down what I like.

I need help. At the end of my rope here.

TLDR at the bottom. Forgive my grammar, I’m on mobile.

I recently had my CV axles replaced at around 150,000 miles due to a leaking boot. This was about last June/July. I replaced them with Oreillys heavy duty CV axles. They are holding up quite well but thats not the problem.

Things were going fine until I noticed a peculiar smell under the drivers side fender. A buddy and I traced it back to the CV having a lot of play out of the differential causing fluid to be flung onto the exhaust. So we decided to completely rebuild the whole differential and replace all the bearings and inspect for wear.

Everything looked good so he buttoned it all back up. My buddy (Who is a legit mechanic he just dosent work in a shop) mentioned that there is no support on that right side. I figured that if it lasted this long then i would have no problem getting it to 300,000 miles. (I bought all OEM)

I then proceeded to take a trip out of the state for a few months. I was periodically checking the Axle for play the who way there (Roughly a 1000 miles) and everything looked good. I have recently gotten back. And the same thing has happened again. This has been roughly 5000 miles. The drivers side CV has a lot of play and is flinging fluid on the exhaust.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem before. I know that there are upgrades out there. But I am surprised that it wore out this quickly. I will post a comment if i remember any more relevant information. Thanks for reading my wall of text.

Please don’t bash me. I bought this car at 18 (Im now 20) as my first real car and had done as much due Diligence as I could. (Car fax, PPP, Looked over it with a fine toothed comb.) I love my FJ but this has been a huge headache for me.

TLDR; the passenger Needle Bearing on my front differential has worn out twice in 5000 miles. Causing leakage and a lot of play.

A rare moment of being clean in the winter

With a cold and endlessly snowy winter here in the northeast, usually everything is covered in salt and brown slush. Was clean for about 6 hours, haha. FJs are awesome in the snow but everything being filthy gets old.
