Just finished eoe and i’m mainly confused about the “egg” of lilith, the purple thing. i’m also confused on how it came to be, when i first watched it with the big explosion I thought it was the 3rd impact but that was something else. So 3rd impact = instrumentalism? and what’s up with the purple sphere of lilith and the explosion that came with it
Can someone explain the last episode like what it meant, the message, and to be honest what even happened. but please be nice I’m a little dumb
Just finished the Rebuilds, after watching NGE + EoE of course. Thrice Upon a Time is, in my opinion, the most satisfying ending to any series (any genre, format, etc.) that I have ever enjoyed in my life. Fantastic in every sense of the word. Amazing. Perfect 100/100. I understand if you'd prefer EoE as the final conclusion, bcs it is very powerful, poignant, bitter sweet, but still with a sense of hope, no matter how faint.
But to me, just the salvation of Shinji and everyone else, the birth of a New World, without EVAs and without anyone having to carry the burden of piloting them, or confronting angels anymore, I feel like that is what Shinji deserved. He really grew so mature throughout the Rebuilds, really became a man. In EoE, this growth is implied and/or we only get the very beginnings of it. I feel like in Thrice Upon a Time, we see Shinji come full circle, and confront his Father, his Mother, himself, and come out stronger and more complete for it.
Best Ending to any series I have ever enjoyed up to date (April 24, 2024).
Thank You Anno
Any other cool spinoffs/additional EVA stuff I should check out?
So I watched the end of Evangelion twice and the first time watching I wasn't even able to focus on anything because I felt so shocked by what I've just witnessed, not understanding a thing going on, but I rewatched it again and I think I finally understood it. This is however my theory though! The beauty of the series is that everyone has their very own interpretations of it.
So, at the very end there's this scene where Shinji is talking to Kaworu and Rei AKA his "hope", and questions life itself, stating "I felt like only bad things happen there, and sooner or later I'll get betrayed and abandoned. But I feel like I wanna meet others again, and I feel like that feeling is genuine."
After that comes a scene where unit 01 with Shinji breaks out of Lilith's eye, (I interpret this as Shinji's "rebirth" as a God, being able to shape the new life to his wish). Then at the very VERY last scene with Shinji and Asuka, both stranded on this land surrounded by an LCL ocean alone, the only living forms on this planet now, I believe them to have taken the roles of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman of this current existence. Shinji strangles Asuka but stops after Asuka shows bit more friendliness toward him and he breaks down. This could symbolize how even the very first progenitors of the human race are imperfect and this emotional vulnerability/instability and violence would reflect in the humans themselves because the humans are created in Adam's and Eve's image.
Does Rei 3 have the memories that Rei 2 has or does she forget about all that stuff? (Such as when Shinji ran to her entry plug and opened it which reminded her of Ghendo)
Is Rei able to return to human form if she wants to (after EoE)?
At the end of EoE when the big Rei is killed, is that Rei 3 dying? And does that mean that Rei is now permanently dead since she doesn’t have any other Rei clones to morph into(because Ritsuko killed them)?
Sorry for the background, I couldn't wait to go home to ask this question.
Rei and Asuka on a waterslide, this should be fun (drawing by me) (asuka isnt naked shes just wearing a two piece

After I finished the Manga and the Rebuild series in one-go, I find that Rebuild not only takes a lot of references in the old TV series (especially the final movie), but also a lot of concepts that are only in the manga. Surprisingly there are not many discussions about this, so I think I just list out a few for fun and for discussion.
THIS IS NOT SAYING WHICH VERSION IS BETTER. It is simply a comparison. There are of course also a lot of similarities between the TV series and Rebuild (duh)
Now let's start with the minor ones:
Kensuke's relationship with Asuka
TV: not much interactions aside from usual school life
Manga: Kensuke has openly expressed multiple times Asuka is the type of girl he likes
Rebuild: Although not completely confirmed, Kensuke definitely has a closer relationship with Asuka. She stays in his home, and she nicknamed him KenKen, which is something she never did in any other version.
Shinji's first time meeting Kaworu
TV: near the waters
Manga: Kaworu is playing piano
Rebuild: Kaworu is playing piano
The end of Instrumentality
TV:
Manga: Shinji and Rei hold hands
Rebuild: Shinji and Rei hold hands
EVA-03 incident
TV: Shinji thinks it is his father's fault to try to kill Toji, and this thought never changes ever since
Manga: Kaji tells Shinji that Shinji himself also has responsibility to the outcome. Should he have a will to fight back then, he might be able to stop the corrupted EVA-03 in time and even save Toji. Instead he just did nothing.
Rebuild: It is Asuka, not Toji, that was in EVA-03, and Shinji finally realizes that it is the exact same reason why Asuka wanted to punch him in the face during their first meet after 14 years.
The concept of growing up
TV: "Grow up" was never mentioned by any of the characters
Manga: During the final scene of Misato, where she tries to encourage Shinji to get on EVA-01, instead of sharing her own experience of the cycle of making mistakes and stepping forward in the TV series, Misato tells him that he cannot no longer let adults telling him what to do, or whining or losing temper or isolating himself in his own little world, because he is a grown up now. She encourages him to not be afraid and find his own answer without relying anyone's help. Then she gives him the famous "grown up kiss".
Rebuild: "Grow up" is huge theme that mentioned several times throughout the series, such as Gendo telling Shinji to grow up after EVA-03 incident, the conversation between Asuka and Shinji before the final fight, and the tram scene where Gendo finds Shinji is able to take other's death without breaking.
Currently these are what I can immediately think of. I am sure there are more that I missed. Feel free to discuss below.
