As you all know, lent is just around the corner and thought this might be helpful:
Chipotle - I get a burrito but you could get the exact same thing with the bowl.
- brown rice
- black beans
- sophritas
- phahitas
- tomato
- green salsa
- corn
- lettuce
Total = $10.50 (including tax) Quick hack: If you wanna add guacamole, make it double wrapped
Impossible whopper
Total = $9.50 - $10
I don’t get this a lot since I could get a burrito from chippotle for the exact same price, but some people prefer burgers over burritos
Please let us know if you guys know more. Any input is appreciated
I want to order items from China in bulk to be delivered to Addis Ababa. I have never used Alibaba before and was wondering if anyone here has used it to place bulk orders.
Any information would be very helpful so please let me know how to navigate this.
Thanks in advance for your time!
My father-in-law was just diagnosed with breast cancer, after losing his mother to breast cancer 2 years ago. He lives in Ethiopia, and we are currently considering international options for his treatment. My husband’s uncle has asked for our help to seek treatment, and I’m assuming cancer treatment is not super available or advance in Ethiopia? My husband and I are going to attempt to coordinate this from the US. We’re not exactly rolling in $$, so the cheaper the better while still getting decent care.
I’ve heard Turkey could be a good option, and am leaning towards that off the bat. I’ve known other Ethiopians who sought care in India for more complex medical issues, and I’m sure there are many other countries that have capacity to treat cancer at a price we can hopefully afford.
Does anyone here have any other suggestions or general advice to navigate this situation?
Thanks!
I have an older family member with the last name degaga, and she says she’s from soddo gurage. However, isn’t the name degaga an oromo name? I’m not sure if she meant one parent is gurage and the other isn’t, but since it’s her fathers name I thought she would’ve claimed that side.
Is degaga a gurage name as well?
To the members of r/Ethiopia,
My name is Christopher Tunstall, and I am currently a student studying electrical engineering at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, United States. I am looking for some people either in or familiar with Ethiopia to join a low-commitment, virtual panel about creating a product on clean and affordable energy for Ethiopia as a Design Thinking class project (no worries if you are not an expert on sustainable energy).
The panel itself would be a once a month DM on Reddit or any other communication form that works best for you between January 2025- April 2025. The prototype for clean and affordable energy for Ethiopia, particularly for a fictional family in Addis Ababa and Ethiopian highlands, should be completed by the end of April 2025.
Let me know either by replying or DM me if you are interested in joining my panel or have questions about the project,
Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Christopher Tunstall
How was ministry exams for you? I live in ksa, but i go to the ethiopian school there so i took the ministry exams - that shit felt like i was reading witchcraft, especially the amharic test, i really expected it to be from the book and not some random questions.
Was it really that hard for you guys? Im surprised i even passed (barely though, i got a 64%)

Experiences show:-
Ethiopia’s fixed exchange rate allocation was tremendous obstacle to student mobility from Ethiopia. Relative to population, Ethiopia fares below even the poorest African countries.
The return on quality education is high in a more dynamic private-led economy where merit and global exposure pay off and students are likely to invest in it.
The effect of international education is net positive for a country because families provide the best education to the country’s future workforce at their own expenses.
entrepreneurs could take the opportunity by making financing support and loan options available to those capable and can surely pay it forward.
What makes the biggest differentiator?
For example, if we look at Somalia’s student mobility, it is close to Kenya’s in gross numbers but education is one way ticket for students from countries like Somalia and students are also likely to accept low quality opportunities for a higher fees. That’s net loss.
Does any one know how I can make an appointment for the CRBA, I submitted an application over 5 months ago and they keep telling me they will email me and their website says I can schedule on the ACA site but when I go there all the dates are grey(not available)?
This is a weekly thread for recommendations. What have you watched/read/listened to recently? What is a podcast, video, book, or movie that you've enjoyed and think others would also enjoy? Please share in the comments.

Ethiopia spends around 0.5% of the GDP on the military which is below the recommend 1%
I keep hearing this all the time, I want to think it means “special” but I don’t know it’s slang term or why people keep calling it “spriece”(spree-ss)
I have seen this question on ask reddit and wanted to know the answer in habesha context
I am visiting Merkato market for souvenirs later today, and I have Ethiopian Birr -- but if I buy more than I planned for, can I make purchases in U.S. Dollar? I do not want to break any laws.
EDIT: We (my brother and I) visited Merkato yesterday -- we had been there twice before on tours, but this trip was specifically to the souvenir shed for shopping. We had a local guide (he did a tour for us to Adadi Maryam the day before). Everything was fine. Yes, there was intense pressure to buy, and I am glad we had a guide.
Thanks to everyone for input.
I am interested in travelling from Addis to Sodo, preferably by plane as it is not safe otherwise. I was wondering if there were any flights and if so how do I go about purchasing the flight tickets? Any options for online purchase?
