Elite Dangerous meta discussion
Here we will talk about anything that does not deserve its own post on the main subreddit, or does not need it yet
Currently this subreddit serves as a testing ground to try out new features
Major discussions about the subreddit at large can be held here as stickying the thread and keeping it active is easier

Flying dangerous
A bit of a strange question but how much meta does the community pay attention to nowdays ???
Long time trader recently turned 150 mill cash into a decent Python. Wanted to start crunching out missions to rank up in the empire. So far I've picked up a couple 'Harmless' missions to kill some dudes in conflict zones.
Can someone explain to me how in Harmless missions, all my targets are 'Deadly' or 'Master'. I get absolutely destroyed on what is supposed to be an easy mission? What is going on?
Anyone
Official forums? PP Faction subreddits? Career-specific subreddits?
Let the show begin!
I don't think we want to encourage loads of new subreddits, one for each Power, so we should start to think about how to handle powerplay discussions.
Is it possible to try to keep all discussion about an individual Power's activity into a single thread each week?
Or do we want Power-based flairs for threads discussing powerplay activity?
Has anyone else noticed this? Often times I'll pull down my list of subscribed subreddits, and notice that different ED specific subs aren't on the list. Later, they appear. Later on, it's a different one missing. Could be more noticeable since they all are together and start with "Elite", but I'm pretty sure I've never looked for a different sub and not found it on my list like this.
I can go to one of the others, and pick the missing one on the side, or just type it in, and get there. And yes, I'm still subscribed to it. Just seems odd, and I'm thinking maybe there's some CSS or something going on that accidentally filters things.
I'm seeing a ton of constructive discussion being downvoted into oblivion just because someone disagrees with it. Can we all try to grow up a bit and practice some Reddiquette? Just because you disagree with an opinion doesn't make it any less valid, and doesn't give you the right to downvote it to the point of invisibility. This is especially true as people are clearly downvote-mobbing pirates, despite the pirates being fully rational and friendly in their discussions here.
Can we outlaw these posts and others like them? Second one I have seen today.
It's one thing for people to post a story of dramatic death and putting up a good fight, but choosing to use a slow, underpowered ship, then intentionally removing any protection, then complaining about the obvious outcome publicly... It's really not adding to the community.
TL;DR made bad choices, something bad happens as an obvious outcome = please don't post about it.
Current Elite sidebar description says "This is the subreddit for everything related to the space trading and combat simulator game Elite: Dangerous." - it's missing the mention of exploration, which is one of the main pillars of the game.
sorry for the slight rant here.... tl;dr installed wrong thing, many crashes, uninstalled everything and start over. How make not use dial up speeds from the 90s?
I'm getting .25 mb/s down on this installer. I get around 8 in steam on a good day, and about 2.5 this time of night on a Saturday. Is there any way to speed this up? I should note that i installed the solo flight trainer on accident because this installer is pretty stupid. It kept crashing when I tried to install the actual game, so I uninstalled it and restarted to get around that. The net result is that after about 2 hours of sitting here dicking off I'm back at 0 waiting to play a this game.
I'm pretty stunned by this installation process btw, it is not encouraging.
Is anyone else getting tired of seeing these? I usually get a good little chuckle at seeing all the references the devs dropped in but can't help feeling they don't really add anything as a post. I'm sure there's hundreds or thousands of referential pilot names in a big database and if I have to see every one posted to the sub I might go insane.
hi,
how come i seldom meet someone.. been crusing through inhabited systems most of the time.. meeting one commander every hour our so...
is there some kind of regional matchmaking or is everybody just in aulin etc.?
Hi all,
Would it be possible to get a link to the official tutorial video series that Frontier is doing for Elite in the sidebar in the "New to Elite? Start here" section?
It's a great and easy way for new players to get introduced to the basic mechanics of the game.
Link to the playlist is here.
A lot of links are outdated, some subreddits listed are private.
Now that the game is almost out, we could try to improve it!
