I need to swap my transmission, I have the 4l60e. Where could I buy a new trust worthy transmission from? I’d prefer to get one in person from a store but if I have to do online, I will.
After getting in a motorcycle accident and now being in a wheelchair, this is the perfect machine for me. Do you guys know if the disc brake conversion discs and pads are proprietary or they off of something else?
Looking at a 72 it has a 454 and determined it did not come with it originally by the vin but can’t determine if it is an ss despite the number of plastic badges on the thing lol.
Previously used as a work truck, towing a stump grinder. Missing clear coat on a good bit of the body. Got 145k on the clock, no rust. Planning on getting it cleaned up soon. Runs and drives smooth.
This is my 83, had it passed down to me after my uncle had it for about 20 years. I’ve been debating on LS swapping this thing.
So owner of an el Camino and I’m going through the electrical on my 1971 402 el Camino.
What is this round thing? Please try not to roast me as I’m newish to cars but I’m working through the electrical on this thing and it’s been quite complex.
Also any idea on the best AC I can put in this thing? They all seem really expensive like 2k ish? Is there one cheaper? I found a complete system on turbonasty.com has anyone used them?
Me, my dad, and my older brother got my car started for the first time! It currently doesn’t have a fuel pump which is stopping it from running consistently, but I’ll take the 4 seconds of rumbling 😉
Not your cup of tea? Kiss my @$$ and move on.
AYE! or NAY!
Some reassembly required, waiting is the hardest part.
Alright, so. Two days ago I was sitting in the office, enjoying my day as much as a 9-5 office goon can when my good buddy sends me a Facebook market place link. Something you should know: me and my buddy have always wanted to get matching cars. Example: dodge rampage and a Chevy El Camino or something to that effect. Anyways, knowing the danger Facebook marketplace can have on one’s wallet, I opened the link to find a slightly neglected El Camino. It was listed as “1979 El Camino 130k miles engine runs no brakes”. Swiping through the pictures after reading that made me a little more excited but what had me really sold me on this one was that it wasn’t sitting as someone’s lawn ornament for years. I end up setting up a same day meeting through the Facebook account and end up going with my dad to check it out before settling down and throwing the cash at it. After checking it out and getting the engine to run for a little bit, me and the owner are able to strike a deal that included him towing it to my house (not too far away). Just like that, two days ago I bought my first El Camino as a project truck/car and all the possibilities that come with owning one. Oh and p.s. I haven’t told the friend that sent me the link that I bought it… I was thinking about keeping it a secret until it’s registered and able to take a few joyrides without any issues. Thank you for reading and there will be more posts to come as I’m planning on tracking my progress and asking for many of your opinions on different issues I may come across. Take care.
So in about a week or so I'm going to start looking for an El Camino to be my first project car my budget is a soft max of $8k absolute max of $9k.
Here what I'm kinda targeting
1980 model year or later (1982 and later is ideal)
Be able to drive it home (hauling isn't really an option)
Here's my questions:
Do I hold out for a 350? I really don't want to do an engine swap right away and I'd rather just not deal with it if I can since I won't be able to do it myself
What else should I be looking for?
Are these targets reasonable for my budget?
Now to find a new one
