Quick pic of the daily
I’m planning on buying a boat. Haven’t fully commited yet, but the boat is a 1984 Mako 258. Read up online that it weighs about 3200 lbs. on average.
My 1970 Elky is supposedly rated for 3500 lbs.
Could I tow this without issues?
I'm considering getting an el camino to daily, I'm looking for tips on should I or shouldn't I. Background for me; this isn't my first car, I live in a northern state in the us we do get snow, I'm under 21. Some questions I have are: 1: what is insurance like? 2: are they ok in the snow if I weigh the back down? 3: are they reliable/easy to work on and are parts fairly common? 4: I know it's a g body, are most of thoes parts universal? 5: is a 10" lift in front and 5"in the rear going to make my view of the road really bad, is it too much squat? For possible light offroad use. And yes I'm aware they get bad mpg.
When I was a kid there was a 68 El Camino parked in a side yard a couple of blocks from my house. Next to it was a pass-through kinda like an alley but meant for foot traffic that allowed a shortcut to the neighborhood park. I passed it frequently growing up, probably first noticed it when I was maybe 5-6. That would have made it an 11-12 year old car at the time. It was brown with woodgrain siding, and daisy mags on it, I would guess 7’s in front and 8.5’s in the rear. Just came out to the edge of the fender. It had “the look”. No rust in it at all. Just had the regular badge in the grill, not an SS. Probably just a 307 column shift car. It was still there when I moved away at 19. Last summer I moved back to my childhood home after 30 years. The car is gone, but I still think about it now and then.
I bought my 64 in 1990, not consciously thinking of this 68 several blocks away but maybe it influenced me.
Happy Turkey Day Y’all! Thankful for these cool automobiles and this community. After a while of lurking I finally have an elco of my own. ‘81 with a 350 swap and a swathe of electrical gremlins but I’ll mechanically sound 🤘
Thought i would ask here since yall would know. Would it be worth it? Original 30k or 60k miles i forgot.
I've been eyeing the Holley Sniper EFI for like 3 years now and will probably try to get one in the spring. It looks like I'll have to upgrade the ~25psi fuel pump to a 60psi fuel pump, but does anyone know if the stock lines are okay or if they would need to be replaced as well to accommodate the higher pressure?
Blower for ac/heat not working. I started with the fuse. No go there. I pulled the blower motor and it was the original and when you spin the blade it made the squealing noise. Changed that out and figured while I was there I would do the relay and resistor. Still not working. What am I missing?
Put automatic in my 81 with a floor shifter. Can I just remove clutch pedal and bend the brake pedal over to move it away from gas? Or should I just find a new brake assembly from junker and remove old one completely.
Buddy of mine sent me this fine example of a custom car hauler
Have owned this for a couple of months now, have been working on it pretty consistently, researching and learning about the mechanical workings. Even after playing mechanic on the side of the road once or twice, I’m in love.
She runs like a top!! Couldn’t be more happy!
Has anyone ordered from muscle car parts? Needing a wiper switch for my 81 and it’s either them or triple the price for a nos from Saudi Arabia on eBay.
Wanting to finish up my 79 elcamino with a custom license plate..Here in BC you can have up to 6 digets numbers and letters and one - So far all I can come up with is
79-ELCO
Anyone else got some ideas..Open to funny ones also lol doesn't need to be elcamino related
I’ve found a few engines from Summit but I don’t know how good they are or the quality control. The engines are a 305 and 350 crate motor
