Why was it decided to end the Rosetta mission by crashing into the comet?

Why not keep measuring each 6.5 years until the instruments break down due to radiation?

If we took the picture of Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko without prior knowledge that Philae was there, would the picture be enough for the international space community to agree that there is other intelligent life in the universe?

If we(earthlings) didn't send Philae to the comet and took this photo would that be proof of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe? Could we take a photo from Earth/orbit that would reveal Philae without Rosetta?

Landing the orbiter?

I heard somewhere that they were going to attempt to land the orbiter on the comet once it had completed it's mission, but I can't find any information or mention of it anywhere. Does anyone here know?
