A safe space for Kings, Queens, and all those who share an interest in drag. While we're here to focus on the unique quirks and challenges of being a King, all are welcome!

The goal of this subreddit is to be an open and supporting community where performers and drag artists of ALL kinds can receive help, feedback, suggestions, and discuss all things drag and gender related.

Welcome to r/Dragkings! We're honored to have you!

The rules here are fairly simple.

For best results, if you believe a post, comment, or message violates the below tools - please message u/injaeia DIRECTLY. Modmail doesn't always reach its destination in a timely manner and don't even start on how terrible the chat function is. :(

  1. Be kind! No homophobia (obviously), no transphobia, racism, sexism, or general hate speech about anyone or any particular group will be tolerated. Be respectful when giving suggestions, advice and feedback, but don't be afraid to be honest. Remember, we can all improve. Thoughtful feedback can help us all be better, but rude comments like "you suck" doesn't help anyone. This rule has a 3 strike policy, unless the severity of the comments or content is such that the mods deem it appropriate to issue an immediate ban.

  2. Content Guidelines: We are all on this sub because we dig drag, therefore, anything drag related goes. Discussion of gender and queerness in general is absolutely acceptable as well: the crux of drag is gender, in any variety. Please avoid topics not drag related, such as debates, non-drag related news, cross-posts from other non-drag subs, etc. Discussion is heavily encouraged, so if you wander off topic a bit, don't worry, just don't go down the Yellow Brick Road too far.

  3. Photo / Video content: Please feel free to share Youtube videos, photos of performers and anything drag related, but keep it relevant and use appropriate tags for anything NSFW. Anything posted that violates Reddit rules or general decency will be taken down or edited appropriately by mods. In addition, if it's not your performing, your video or your image, give credit where credit is due, preferably in your post title.

  4. Encouragement and Support! Don't gatekeep. This sub is a place to not only support performers of all shapes, kinds, makes and styles, but to support our overall community. Please don't gatekeep: if something is not YOUR personal cup of tea, but you can see how it relates to queerness, drag, or gender - it's valid and it belongs here.

Above all else, ALL DRAG IS VALID.

Again, if you do stumble upon a comment or a post that appears to violate these rules - please message u/injaeia DIRECTLY as modmail doesn't always reach them promptly.

North Wales area?

Any kings here that perform in the North Wales area or roundabouts? I feel like it's hard nowadays to really find gay & trans communities where I can feel at home. I'm out and proud as a lesbian and have been for years but it's sort of soul sucking to spend so much of my life working and living with only straight people. I want to watch kings perform and I want to surround myself with people who I don't feel like I have to explain myself to, but that connection just feels so, so far. If you've ever performed in the area or visited a performance, I'd really love to know where. And does anyone else feel as disconnected from their community as me lol. Seeing drag online gives me FOMO! Take me with youuuuuuu

Drag Culture project

Hi everyone!

I’m a university student working on a research project about drag culture, gender expression, and how it’s represented in the media. In a nutshell, we’re exploring drag as both an art form for creative expression and a safe space for discovering personal and queer identity.

If you have a few moments, we’d love for you to take a short survey to help with our presentation. And if anyone is interested in being interviewed, there’s an option to leave your contact information there as well.

Thank you so much for your time and support! 🌟

Healthy ways to bind so I can still move around?

Hey all. Getting ready for my first ever performance in a couple weeks, and was just wondering if there’s anything better than a binder or trans tape to keep everything flattened in my costume. I have a binder, but I’m worried it’s going to interfere with my breathing as I’m dancing. I’m open to giving trans tape another shot, but I’m admittedly not very good with it. Even like a good compression sports bra rec is totally fine (I’m like right between a B and a C cup). Thanks!

Horror Drag Names

I'm really new to drag and have been trying to come up with a name that is horror related because the act I want to do it impersonating horror characters in drag. What got me to start drag is dressing as Patrick Bateman, which feels like a name with pun potential but I just can't come up with anything. I'm really into stuff like Hannibal, anything vampire related, Psycho, really any excuse I can get to bedazzle fake blood onto something. If anyone has any horror themed drag king names I'd appreciate it!

different performance roles??

so ik my title isn’t very helpful, but i was just curious about something. have any of you guys worked in casts/with drag companies (? idk if that’s what you call them lol) where performers have like… MC type roles? introing members of the cast, doing stage entertainment between numbers, announcing who’s next, etc but they don’t do much else? i have a comedy centered character who i really love to play, and who i’ve centered his stuff around that sort of performing, but i’m not much of a dancer or really into lip sync or super artistic performance sort of things like that. i just enjoy being a silly dude who does some stupid gag shit makes the announcements and skidaddles before the real acts come on lol.

sorry again if the question is stupid, i’ve mainly been a horror actor before anything with drag and most of my stuff is solo so i haven’t worked with a dedicated cast before doing stage work other than like… highschool theater. anyways! if you have experience working as/with mc centered type personas or if you’ve seen them at all before lmk :]

Digital Drag Show Question

I feel real silly asking this but I got asked to be apart of a digital drag show for a few dates next year. I said yes to it but I’m unsure of what to expect. I realize that show runners might vary in how they run things but does anyone have a good reference or know a running digital drag show I can attend to better gauge how they work?

Or if you’ve been in one yourself I’d love to hear about your experience!

Drag name - help!

Hey lovely people! I’ve joined a local drag group and hopefully in the future I’ll be performing for the first time! My problem is that I know exactly what image I’ll have, but can’t decide on a name. Basically, it’ll be a bad boy/punk kinda look - planning to do a few punk songs as well - but since I’m a soprano, I’ll throw some Kate Bush, Chrissy Chlapecka and a few other female singers in there too for the giggles. (Idea is, Tough Punk Boy™️ up on stage looking Tough™️, and then belting out Wuthering Heights) I wanted to joke on the “poser” trope a little, so something along those lines - so far the names I’ve come up with are Jimmy D’Kay (like Johnny Rotten from Wish) and Noah Pozer. But I’m not sure about them so could do with a little extra help! Thanks🥰🥰

(Also - I am part of the punk community myself, I’m not just using an aesthetic for giggles)🫶🏻

Drag King as cis-queer woman?

Hey everyone! First of all, wow you seem/look amazing! So much inspiration and creativity in this group I’m amazed. Now to my question, which might be a bit silly? Idk. I’ve recently become interested in Drag Kings as the play with gender and performance seemed very appealing. I’ve never been a hyper-feminine woman, which I’ve struggled with as I was younger but now I’m very comfortable with. I’m also comfortable with being a woman in general.

I’m just unsure because I went to a Drag King workshop recently and I was the only cis person there, which obviously I didn’t mind at all, it just made me question whether I belong in this community or if it’s more geared towards non-cis people? I do love Drag Kings/Queens as I very much believe that gender is fluid and there’s too much discrimination happening based on gender(-expression). I’m also queer too, so do know what kind of discrimination people can face and have many friends from all over the queer spectrum. Maybe someone can tell me it’s all ok lol? Would just be very sad to not do Drag but I also don’t want to take up space that isn’t meant for me.

Edit: you people are the best 🥹 I was very insecure/sad and now I’m not anymore and full of motivation and creativity. From the bottom of my sometimes very anxious/insecure heart, thank you!!

How to get better at performing

I feel like I need a drag parent so bad 😭😭😭 How do you all learn do you take any dance classes? How do you come up with choreography? I know I need to watch more people perform and go to more shows but what else can I do? I'm doing stretches to try and become more flexible to eventually do splits but I see such talented performers and I just feel a bit lost

i’m a soprano who’s classically trained in voice performance - any tips on how to incorporate this into drag?

i hate my high voice but love that it helps me hit high notes lol. i’ve seen some drag queens perform amazing opera numbers and i was thinking of performing “time to say goodbye” at some point. however, i want to incorporate classical music with dance at some point because i’m also a dancer! i just don’t know how to do it in a way that doesn’t seem so abrupt, if that makes sense??

this is kind of a ramble lol.

[ISO Advice] Help getting involved in the drag community

My partner and I regularly attend drag shows in my area. We love supporting drag kings, queens and everything in-between. We see so many amazing performers with amazing outfits and ideas but some of the performers could use a hand with sewing skills.

Now hear me out. We saw this great performer in a corset, that had to pause mid show and have an audience member or maybe a planned friend, help remove the corset. It took almost a minute away from their show.

My partner has professional theatre and Broadway level skills in costume design and modifying garments to allow for seamless quick changes. I have extensive sewing experience and the ability to work with weird materials and bring people's ideas to life even they don't feel capable. I also have years of wearing daily in my personal life and the ability to style them.

Between the two of us, we would love to help some of the newer performers handle the technical stuff so their performance shines.

Question is, how do we get a foot in the door for something like this? We aren't looking to make any money, we just want to support our local community and cheer them on while sharing our skill set.

Any advice?
