Stop misusing the word ‘gate keeping’

This was in reference to somebody stating a negative opinion about Muse and the response was that they are ‘gatekeeping music’. Honestly, it’s getting cringe now. People are going to have different musical opinions. Especially about bands like Muse who are highly polarizing in the download community. Yes, some of these views are presented in a dogmatic way, but it doesn’t mean that they’re ‘gatekeeping’. They are not controlling or limiting other’s access to music. They’re simply stating an opinion that an open free speech platform like Reddit allows them to do.

Loaddown Podcast episode 5

Ep 05 - "8000 Miles to Metal; A Journey to Download Festival!” is now live.

This week we look at the unique story of Jesna (735ART) who travelled nearly 8,000 miles to be part of the Download family.

Jesna's journey from a remote village in Bali, Indonesia to be part of the sell out crowd in 2023 is unlike anything we've ever had the honour of being part of, and his retelling of his experience of the festival is truly not to be missed.

What was it like camping this year ? How did people manage the mud?

I went, but stayed in a hotel in derby. I was so dirty each night and I'm really impressed by anyone who survived camping. I was just wondering how people managed it, did you avoid the inside of the tent getting muddy? Showers at night ? But then I guess you'd get muddy coming back from the showers.

If your mum could pick the headliners who would it be?

Personally, I think my mum would have ABBA, Madonna and Kylie Minogue 💃

What's the most surprising announcement you've seen Download make?

With the announcement only a few weeks away, what band announcement has taken you by surprise the most?

A couple come to mind for me, just as examples.

Die Antwoord subbing Slipknot, Smashing Pumpkins subbing (they had previously headlined most festivals they'd done), and the daddy of them all for me, Busted headlining a tent (which made me literally stand up as I couldn't quite believe that they were at Download at all.)

What are the best tips for someone’s first metal festival?

Me and my best friend have got tickets for 3 days camping in the quiet area, I’m 16 and he’s just turned 17. We have gigs booked before Download itself - but it’s nothing like this.

We both don’t know what to do, what to pack, how to even survive to be honest. We’re both huge metal heads and Downloads soemthing we’ve discussed since we became friends, and now it’ll be our first proper festival.
