Honestly I don’t know what to say. When I grabbed the bag it was sealed and I feel like I would’ve heard them being tossed around in the bag but whatever…
This is rare right?
So I’ve noticed that a lot of people have a really weird understanding of how this works from the drivers perspective. So I am going to share some things that people are often confused by. Obviously there’s exceptions and there’s always a shit head in every group.
Express delivery: We are not notified of this in anyway shape or form. 99% of the time we are just doing what the app says
Double Delivery: They removed the option to see which of the two orders tipped allowing the driver to deliver that order first. We have no clue who did and didn’t tip when given two orders at once. We cannot only accept one.
Declining Orders: We are not “forced” to take orders but the system does punish you if you decline to many. By reducing your ability to work. If I decline 30 out of 100 deliveries I lose my ability to schedule shifts in advance. Meaning often drivers are steered towards accepting horrible orders.
Federal Milage Minimum: is .65 a mile. Meaning the government did some studies and found that that’s the average cost per mile to deliver in a vehicle. Including gas and maintenance. These 3rd party apps do not pay that minimum and spent $156 million in one year lobbying to ensure they never will. Meaning if you don’t tip and are further than 3 miles. The driver is paying to bring you your food.
Minimum Pay Per Order: is $1 per order regardless of milage when offered as a double. It is $2 for a single. We do not receive any extra money for Express delivery or for having a pizza bag. DoorDash pockets all of that.
Tips: we cannot see the tip amount when accepting an order. Just the total amount of the order. Sometimes it will say $6+ meaning you are gambling hoping it’s a lot more. It’s normally .50 more. So tipping .02 doesn’t help your cause at all and it feels really shitty on our end.
Delivery Instructions: we are not shown any of your notes until such time as we have picked up the order through the app. Once we confirm the order is picked up our screen immediately goes to which ever map service we choose to use. Meaning we have to exit out and click through to see your instructions. On multiple occasions I’ve had customers call me very upset for “not reading the instructions” while I am in my car trying to understand your instructions. When you say “it’s off Pine street by the ramp” and I do not live in that area or spend time there. I don’t know where the ramp is and if the GPS doesn’t take me to Pine, idk where that is either. It’s going to take me a moment after arriving to get my bearings and read your instructions. Just be patient.
Hand It To Me: if you select this option and do not come to the door we are forced to wait five minutes at your door before being able to leave the food and continue making money. This is incredibly frustrating as it’s wasting my time and thus costing me money. If you are unsure you’ll be able to answer the door. Just select leave at the door or contactless. I promise your driver hates you if you are one of those people.
Shopping Orders: please do not add a bunch of large or heavy items while I am actively shopping. I accepted the order based on what you’d ordered and the pay. When you add 5 cases of water at the last minute, fuck you is what. Please select substitutions ahead of time or answer the phone when something is out.
No Tip: if you are one of these unfortunate humans just shut the fuck up and get your food. As mentioned someone is most likely losing money to bring that to you. Why are all of you the most entitled and most difficult to please? Why is it always the no tip orders that expect you to “get them free sauce so they don’t have to pay” then will call you while in the restaurant waiting saying “I know the food will be cold” we don’t make your food and trust me if I could get it any faster I would. The longer it takes the less money we make. We want the food just as bad as you.
Bad Reviews: the have a direct impact on our ability to make money and hurt no one else in the process. When you give your driver 1 star because McDonalds put pickles on your burger. You are compromising that dashers access to the best orders (theoretically) McDonalds never even sees the review and if they did they wouldn’t care. Obviously there are instances where a 1 star is totally reasonable. However I’ve gotten two 1 star reviews on Christmas Day for “taking too long”at fast food spots. Nothing like spending 45 minutes in the drive through for the customer to freak out at you for taking so long and then getting a bad rating.
I think most clever thing DoorDash and these companies did was to direct the anger of everyone towards each other rather than the party who rightfully deserves it, DoorDash. They keep drivers and customers at each others throats while paying $1 a delivery. Then restaurants end up hating drivers for problems out of their control. All while DoorDash laughs to the bank and Tony XU gets his 3rd billion on the backs of millions of people. Hope this was informative to someone at least. Just know we are trying and don’t want it to suck for you either.
I gotta say not bad
I ordered over an hour ago, but every single dasher waits like 20 minutes and then cancels. I keep messaging and asking the new dashers what's going on and they just... don't reply. Had a 4.50 tip on there because i'm too nice even tho im a broke college student. Any ideas why this could've been happening to me? Last dasher cancelled the order altogether then i had to get a full refund and order again. i'm just hungry man like it's too late at night for this.
Went to a pizza place to pick up an order. There were thirty orders ahead of ours. 40-45 minute estimated wait. There were like 6 people making pizzas.
Did a worry-free unassign. Selected the option "20+ minute wait time."
I thought "oh cool, now hopefully they'll wait at least 20 minutes before they reassign it and waste another Dasher's time."
Within a minute received the EXACT same order as an offer. I declined it of course, and then my acceptance rate went down.
I proceeded to make another $30 in the time I saved. And apparently set a new record for driving efficiently as well 🙂
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, Livermore for those that know the area. I was just wondering what Door Dash pays and what Dashers would think is a reasonable tip. I order often and have given a flat tip. I will up it if it is pouring rain. I have requested that the food i order is put on the ledge under the window, which can be seen very clearly when walking up to my door. I have been thinking about lowering my tip on the app and then leaving an additional tip to those Dashers that actually read and do as requested. I'm tired of having to slowly open my screen, so as to not push over my food, but to gently move it, so i can get out my door to pick up my food from the cold ground. What do you guys think?
So I hardly use door dash and for the first time in a while I opened it to order some food a something about dashpass popped up saying something about how it’s $8 or I can get a yearly subscription for $96, with two options either (Maybe Later) or (Upgrade) or something like that I accidentally fat fingered and hit upgrade and with no are you sure or anything it upgraded and charged my card is there a way to get this refunded???
I plan to get 4 packages picked up and sent to UPS using DoorDash. Combined, the packages weigh 69lbs. DoorDash charges a flat rate of $5. How much should I tip for this?
Two main items missing from delivery.
Paid for and got extra sauces and pita (for falafel and hummus). But I did not get the falafel ($11) or hummus ($10). So, the extras are for nothing.
Restaurant is now closed. Doordash gave refund of $5.
Is Dasher supposed to check if order is all there?
Also - I tipped Dasher $15. She left it on my porch opened and toppled over.
Customer story here… I tried to take my daughter trick-or-treating today only to have to go home early because it was pouring raining outside. I promised her pizza when we got home. After my pizza got delivered to a different house after waiting TWO HOURS for it, I finally just swallowed the bullet and ordered DoorDash. My order was taking a little minute, and I messaged the Dasher and asked what was taking so long. She then proceeded to tell me that she was getting onto the manager about not only her wait time, but the fact that my food wasn’t wrapped up and had no security label on it. She was super sweet. She even told my daughter happy Halloween when she delivered the food. Me and my daughter were having a pretty crappy night and she turned it around. She definitely earned those 10 extra dollars I added after she delivered the food. I hope she’s in this sub Reddit or somebody that knows her is.
I got the biggest tip that I’ve received since starting doing DoorDash like mid September and I was blown away honestly. This was like the sweetest woman in the world. She had an entire table set up with bowls of candy and donuts and fresh baked cookies and everything for all the kids. could not have been a nicer person. I feel so blessed.
So after nearly an hour of waiting after my food had been picked up (7min drive), most of which was my Dasher just...parked? My food finally arrived. Great! ...aaaaaaaand the seal on the drink was barely stuck to it. Same for the seals on the bag. And before anyone says "but the seals break easily" I have LITERALLY never had this happen, and been using DD for years between my own and family members' accounts. When I couldn't get a refund in-app, I called support, and got told my account has been flagged for past compensation. On my personal account, I've requested compensation once and received it, for a missing item. Not...really...sure what to do? Also still waiting for the escalated refund to process, and don't know what to do if it doesn't go through.
Edit (~6min later): Didn't expect it so soon, but thankfully got my refund. Still not sure what to do from here.
Had a good feeling anout halloween. So many stacked orders hahah!
I ordered a meal (fries and drink) plus x2 apples pies from McDonalds. I’m getting over Covid and dealing with sinusitis as a secondary infection. I’m also less than half a mile away from the store. I’m exhausted from lack of sleep and not breathing right.
I tipped $3 before checkout when the order was $16, so that’s an 18-19-ish percent tip? He didn’t move in the map for about 30-45 minutes before I decided to go get it myself. I could’ve gotten it reassigned but I was upset and I needed more tissues and cough meds anyways.
Went and picked it up, told support, another dasher got assigned, they gave me $15 in credits and I gave the new driver a $10 tip for the trouble.
I didn’t realize I had set the tip low, so that’s on me but I can now see straight for the first time in a while 🤷🏼♂️.
Including me. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Is there an easy way to see how many gift cards I've redeemed on for door dash? We've been blessed with many gift cards and I'm just curious how many we used
Nope. You got me ALLLL the way facked up. Talking about you’re five minutes away then gone drop my shit off in the woods. Fuck you Tini and you’re dumbass name. I hope you choke on bark. I hope when you get home you stub your mangled pinky on every corner of every room. I hope you turn on the lights and there’s roaches everywhere. I hope you don’t get that job you’ve always wanted. I hope you’re stuck dashing and being a piece of shit. Of course you ain’t shit with a name like Tini the fuck you STANK CRANK BLOODCLAT ASS BITCH??
go ahead and guess what the tip was 🤭 only accepted because it was $5 for less than a mile
I live in an apartment building in nyc and the guy went on the other side despite specific instructions to head up to left side once buzzed in. After going to the wrong side, I said I’d just meet him in the lobby. By the time I got down there I see him leaving the building with my food. I’m like “uh I thought you said you were going to meet me in the lobby why are you leaving with my food?” And he just flipped out about not having time for this and how he has every right to take my food because I put the wrong apartment number (I didn’t). I let him know that he could’ve just left it in the lobby then if anything and he just throws the bag at me and calls me a “stupid n*****”. at this point I’m cursing him out and he’s like “you better watch out. You never know when I’ll be delivering your food again.” Been on hold with customer support for over ten minutes now.
all night has been like this. Thus one was my last straw. This and going to the address of a subway that brought me to the middle of no where and the actual subway was across town 🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️
So I got deactivated because they claim I failed my identity verification which is bullshi*. I shaved off my beard same dude no beard. The kicker is the froze my earnings and won't allow me access to my money I legitimately earned what kind of business model is this sounds like some shady shi* too me. I've appealed 5 or 6 times now they are just ignoring me. Anybody else deal with anything similar to this and have any advice. I just want my $360 and cut ties with these crooks
