Free 3D rendering!

Clearly super bored during quarantine.. as is everyone. So I thought I’d try something and see if anyone was interested. I recently took a job as a design assistant and haven’t had much at home work since the lockdown. I figured I would ask you good people to help me keep up practicing on the software we use.

What’s in it for you ?? Maybe some new ideas for a kitchen or bath or basement area.

So just send me the dimensions of your room and some styles that you like and I can recreate some 3D images for you.. all for free!!

Most designers do charge for a service such as this .. but since I’m a beginner and just need the practice I’m not trying to make $ doing this.

I’m American.. so inches are preferable for measurements.

Don’t forget windows.. width, height, and how high off the floor.

Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this.. and keeping me sane during all this alone time!

Cheers and be well!

I built shelves and corbel out of scrap wood construction lumber. If you sand it enough no one will know.

Painting Trim and Doors... I need advice.

Hey ladies!!!

Using this isolation time to finally paint my doors, trim and baseboard. I am going to be painting it gray instead of white because why not.

I was going to leave my crown moulding white because I think it looks better matching the ceiling and well honestly I don’t love crown moulding and think that leaving it white will keep it less noticeable. So do you think I can leave it white or does it need to be gray too?

gray

common spaces tan

Edit: went with a lighter less purple gray here’s a few pictures of my work

Kitchen Gut Job

https://imgur.com/a/kS78Dcd

Said I'd put up some of the kitchen work. Here it is. Took what felt like a year? Learning as I go takes me bonus time and lots of swearing.
Enjoy! Or not but Hobbs might feel hurt if you don't

Which caulk for exterior wood trim to brick, with some large gaps?

I’m prepping my home exterior for painting, and I need to do a major caulk job. Planning to use a silicone-base, exterior paintable caulk, but I’m wondering if I should get the sanded caulk because there are some big gaps, up to almost a half-inch in places.

Also, the old caulk (and I’m talking 30 yr old, in some places) is hardened like steel. Do I need to remove it, or can I just caulk with the new stuff over it? If I need to remove it, how do I do it?

Rough sketchup plan of my new en-suite. House is approx 165 years old, lathe & stone walls, no waste or plumbing in place... Should be interesting!

Wall Plates: Midsize or Jumbo?

Hi DIY ladies!

I am currently reading myself to replace all the old almond-y colored electrical outlets and toggle light switches to white rocker style light switches and block style electrical outlets. I am trying to decide between midsize or jumbo sized wall plates and just can't settle on which...

We own a high(er)-end home that we plan to sell in the next few years. Which size would you choose and/or which do you think would look better? Thanks!

What projects are on tap for this weekend?

I’m trying to decide myself. I NEED to take my dryer ducting apart and get the lint out. Not earth-shattering to be sure, but one of those things that’s been bagging at me. I also have some painting to finish up.

Want to remodel the kitchen in our ~120 year old house with 9 foot kitchen cabinets. Anyone have any ideas on what to do with them? There are more across the room above the stove as well, 20 upper cabinets altogether.

Basement bedroom— didn’t get a good before pic, sadly. New ceiling tiles, can lighting, flooring, paint, and decor. Goodbye nasty carpet and cave lighting!

Power of paint! Refinished vanity counter with appliance epoxy for $4. Took about 3 min after prep. The prep took about 20 minutes-LOTS of backspray so make sure everything is covered and you have ventilation and a mask! Will likely replace in a few years but for now this works and saves loads of $$

I designed our new master bathroom because I couldn't stand to look at the old 90s one anymore. We hired most of the work out, but I got to be project manager of the whole thing!

I hated our nasty builder-grade beige tiles. I love the look of patterned tile but not the price. Spent just over $100 on some paint and a stencil. Voila! Two years later and not a single chip! Primer, base coat, stencil and 4 coats of sealer. Removed the painter’s tape after last pic. Oops. 😏

Seeking advice on our stairs! These are currently painted a dark green color and they are in bad shape. Not confident I’d be able to do anything too hardcore but any easy suggestions to spruce these bad boys up?
