Why does this sub have so few members compared to other Disney movie subs?

It's hard to believe it was a total flop... but where is the fandom? Is this it?

What if the Spine Chief, the Tail Chief, and Dang Hai were the dragon squad led by Raya?

Hello. It's Samuel Joseph Whitacre, and I just moved in Brooksville, and I love this new house. It's 9884 Domingo Drive, Brooksville, Florida 34601. Now, I know what you're thinking: Couldn't the Spine Chief, the Tail Chief and Dang Hai be part of the dragon squad led by Raya? Why not just change the title from Raya and the Last Dragon to Raya and the Dragon Squad? That'd be super awesome. After the battle in the temple, Raya should catch the Dragon Gem, that was created by the dragons 500 years ago, so quickly and say to the Spine Chief and Dang Hai that if they break it, they buy it. When the Druun awaken and turn Raya's father, Chief Benja, to stone, Raya tells the Spine Chief, the Tail Chief and Dang Hai to become the dragon squad and keep their deep hatred for Namaari, who keeps training to be a leader, casting aside any emotions for cold reason (as per the teachings of her mother, Chief Virana). As six years passed, they live in Tail as they search and summon the last dragon, Sisudatu, who has to blast the Druun away again 500 years ago. They team up with the ship's captain, Boun, the con baby, Noi and her band of mischievous Ongis, and the Spine leader, Tong. In the final battle, after Namaari pierced Sisu with an arrow, the Druun viciously attack Fang as Raya, the Spine Chief, the Tail Chief and Dang Hai all fight Namaari after her mother was turned to stone while Boun, Noi, Ongis and Tong use the Gem to move the Druun away. After they kick Namaari to the floor, Namaari tells the real truth and apologizes to Raya and her squad for everything she's done then Raya accepts her apologies and forgives her. When they're cornered and surrounded by the Druun, Raya decides to kiss Namaari and uses the Gem to blast the Druun away and the rain brings Kumandra back to life including Chief Benja, Chief Virana and the dragons. When the Spine Chief asks Raya to be his queen, Raya agrees. When they return to Heart, Raya reunites with Benja and welcomes him to Kumandra. Chief Benja reunites with Chief Virana and asks her to be his step wife. Benja puts the crown on Raya's head and Chief Virana puts the crown on the Spine Chief's head. Raya and the Spine Chief become king and queen of Heart and Spine. And they should all live happily ever after. So, what do you think? Should that happen in the movie? I'm sure it would. Please let me know in the comments.

Raya and the Kingdom of Kumandra

Hello there. It's Samuel Joseph Whitacre. I'm moving to a new house on September 25th in Brooksville. I just came up with a Raya sequel that's simply titled "Raya and the Kingdom of Kumandra". The film takes place after the events of Raya and the Last Dragon as Chief Benja and his daughter Raya have reached an arrangement with the people of Fang as they would have peace in their lands as he and Chief Virana have agreed that the best way to achieve it is for a marriage to take place. When Raya tells Benja to marry Virana to unify their lands, Benja disagrees. Benja also tells Raya that her duty as princess of Heart is to see for their land and for their people and they have arranged this wedding to be hers with Princess Namaari. Meanwhile, the Druun return turning into shapeshifters and they build a new kingdom to have their revenge on the people of Kumandra. It's up to Raya and her friends to defeat the Druun once again. The film should be directed by Justin Lin, written by Christina Hodson, produced by Gale Anne Hurd, Lin, Don Hall, Carlos López Estrada, Peter Del Vecho, and Osnat Shurer. Check out the pages at IMDB and Movie Ideas. I just finished the transcript. Should Raya and Namaari be married and become queens at the end of the movie?

Gripes

Yes I liked the movie, yes I enjoyed the characters, no I don't regret my purchase. However:

  1. What the hell happened to pacing?? It's been a problem in films for a while now (at least to me) but it seemed particularly bad in this movie, maybe because I liked the characters and story but kept being drawn out of the mood by the lightning-fast cuts. Why can't directors let any moment breathe?? What's wrong with a few seconds of still camera, just watching someone's face change, or a lingering stare, or someone slowly walking away in rejection? Why does every line have to be rapid-fire with no pauses between characters? I really think it would have been better to see at 2/3 speed. I want to feel what's happening, and let it sink in. Changing faces and dialog and scenes that fast is just.... unnatural.
  2. Thankfully it wasn't too heavy, but I get annoyed that every animated movie "needs" to have its cute animal (or robot) sidekick. I assume most of them are just ploys to sell plushies and kid's toys later. It feel cheap, especially when they have no actual relevance to the plot. I would much rather that screen time have been used elsewhere.
  3. I did not like the thief baby. Probably for similar reasons as the sidekick thing. That and in general I'm sick of funny cutscenes, gags, and break-the-tension comments. I don't know what movies started that trend (probably over a decade ago... Marvel?) but while it was probably "refreshing" at first, that shit is way overplayed now.

I agree with most ya'lls opinions here about the moral "lesson." Whoever posted that Honest Trailers link - I laughed so hard, it was ON POINT.

You know which character I liked best? Tong. I didn't think I would, when he started talking, but two visuals within about 5 seconds told me all I needed to know: the entire village all to stone, and the empty crib. Boom, I know his story and really feel his pain. He is instantly a sympathetic character. That's the kind of visual storytelling I love. Side note, that's one of the main gripes I had with Your Lie In April -- I can SEE what's happening, just keep showing me, stop re-explaining everything that happens. It's a MOVIE, goddamnit -- don't tell me, SHOW ME. I love non-verbal short films for this reason.

Perhaps a strange gripe, but I expected/felt tears at the end, instead of universally upbeat shouts and waves. I dunno, after an event of that magnitude, and folks realizing they've been gone six years, I expect there to be tears and laugh-sobbing everywhere. "Happy tears," you know.

Oh, on Raya and Namaari. Ship them if you want, whatever (it's the internet, it's cosmic law that it will happen), but I personally felt there was zero romantic angle anywhere from anyone, and was glad for it. Those looks were of earnest relief, forgiveness, understanding, and thankfulness. Not goo-goo eyes. Do ya'll not think a person can fully exist or be fulfilled without someone to lock lips with?? Some of us have other shit to do, man. Sheesh.

representation matters

Ok I haven't seen the movie yet and neither has anyone in my family BUT I wanted to point out how amazing it is to see southeast Asian characters in popular media!! Were Lao and growing up we rarely saw Asian characters in media let alone southeast Asian characters. Even by just looking at promotional stuff and screenshots of the movie, my sister (who is an entire adult) was in tears because this is the first time she saw characters that look like her!!

just in this image alone, these characters LOOK LIKE MY FAMILY. THE SKIN COLOR!!! THE FACE AND BODY SHAPE!!!! THE TRADITIONAL CLOTHING!!!!! SERIOUSLY THAT GIRL IN THE LOWER RIGHT-HAND PART OF THE IMAGE LOOKS LIKE MY YOUNGER SIBLING! it's amazing! of course, the characters in the show are much more fit than we are seeing as they're not living in a first work country with plenty of food and cars but my point still stands!

again I haven't seen the movie yet so please don't spoil anything on this thread but I really wanted to share how much I already love and appreciate this movie

Dissapointed Rant ):

AS mixed race south east asian, i was SUPER excited for a disney princess that looked like me. Like i actually felt represented, not to mention how unique and original it looked for a dp movie, but i kinda hated it...

Honestly, I think the movie would have been SO much better if Sisu got severely injured earlier. I mean the thing that's missing is a big moment in the middle.

It was just so boring and characters never made mistakes till the end, so there was nothing to grow from yk?

Let's say that Sisu tells Raya how she used the stone, and trust dragon circle flash back thing when they meet. Imagine if that moment where Sisu looks into Namaari's eyes after they met that big warrior dude from spine, Namaari points her weapon at her, but hesitates in fear and amazement, and _then_ Raya hits her bow with the sword, and that injures Sisu and makes her too weak to fight. That then confirms in Raya's mind that the Fang is their enemy, despite Sisu's pleas, and makes her more determined.

Then as the crew is trying to sneak into fang, Namaari notices, and (against her mums wishes) gets the gem and tries to give it to them, cos she thinks they can save everyone with the dragon. Raya doesn't trust her tho, and refuses to lower her sword, giving Namaari's mum enough time to intervene. Raya thinks this was another trick. Raya then goes after Namaari in rage again and this time, Namaari is talking Raya down and telling her how she was trying to help, and at this time, Sisu dies because of her injuries (maybe the boy stayed with her, since he's got no fighting skills and it doesn't make sense for him to try and sneak in) Raya see's the waters fading out and realises something's wrong and goes to help the others, and the rest plays out the same. It also would have been cool if they framed Namaari's mum as the villain, and little Namaari had nothing to do with trying to get the stone, and was reluctanatly following her mums orders the whole time when she grew up.
