[Academic] The ADA's Effectiveness and Disability Experiences - Survey for Research Paper

Hello. I am a college student working on a research paper, and I need your help!

My research paper will focus on disability rights and American policy impact. Recently I have learned about the several governmental and local services/policies the United States provides for disabled Americans, like myself. In my research paper, I decided to explore specifically on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and what it has done for our community. I thought the best way to see this is through experiences of individuals who have been impacted by the ADA.

So, please take this survey to help me in researching the ADA and disability rights! You may take it anonymously or attach your email in the beginning for a possible follow-up. If you have any questions or comments, just reply to this post or here is my academic email: denhao107@macomb.edu

Survey link: https://s.surveyplanet.com/7hycobme

Thanks!

[Academic] Survey for Mobility in Urban Areas

Hello everybody,

I am a graduate student at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, and working project about urban mobility for disabled people as part of my Design course. The object of this project is to provide a solution to help people with disabilities (we are trying to consider all kinds) plan and get around in urban areas. To help us better understand the challenges of mobility, we created a survey and would be extremely grateful for your answers.

With our research, here in Switzerland, we found that users find mobility in urban areas difficult due to architectural elements and access to public transport. In addition, the planning stage is also challenging due to the lack of adapted resources or integrated services. Our survey is designed around these areas, and I am aware that this may not apply to everyone as every country and region is different in terms of mobility, access to public transport etc. Nevertheless, we would love to get your feedback and better understand the topic.

Here you find the link to access here: https://forms.gle/QN4C84kFXMQDWUWeA

Thank you very much for your interest and help!

Wishing you a nice day 😊

hs student looking to write and investigate about additive manufacturing (i.e. 3d printing) and prostheses...

*I did post this in /prosthetics, but I'm looking for lots of insights and input so, here we are:
Hi all, I'm a Y11 (I guess Y12 for the Brits out there) student in the IB, and I'm planning to write my academic extended essay (4000 words) for the following question:

How can additive manufacturing impact the design, efficacy, and accessibility of trans-radial, cable-operated medical prosthesis for low-to-middle income, children of city residents?

I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback on perhaps the feasibility, whether it's realistic or not... of this question; or how I could reasonably investigate into this field.

I have an ambition to make an app prototype or system of some sort, to frame a more accessible way to customise prostheses at lower costs for children, as well as open-source joint models available to customise. Some points I identified were the costs, the lack of availability of prostheses that can adapt to growth, etc. (I may be wrong).

If you guys have any ideas/experience, I would love and appreciate any help. Thanks!

Accessible Technology

Survey

Hello! I am a psychology student at Anne Arundel Community College but will be pursuing a degree in behavioral neuroscience with a concentration in disability studies. After 6 years of working with both children and young adults with special needs, I realized that there are still places that have not been made accessible. I am currently writing a research paper for my sociology class about technology and my goal is to find out how we can make apps and websites more accessible to people of all needs. I would appreciate if you (or on behalf of someone else) could complete this survey so I could receive firsthand experiences and propose a more accurate solution for this problem. Thank you!

Hi there,

I'm posting this survey on behalf of a friend of mine who is looking to create a character sculpt intended for a video game. This character is a part of a greater study into the misrepresentation of physical disabilities in gaming as a medium and how to better show them.

It will take anywhere from five minutes and up depending on how much anybody is willing to write about it.

Thanks for your time if you choose to participate.

I'm redesigning the grabber and need your help!

I am a master’s level industrial design student from Parsons in New York, and I am currently researching mobility within the home, particularly concerning people living in wheelchairs. My objective is to redesign the grabber and elevate the product’s quality while also exploring opportunities for improving its usefulness and versatility. I am looking for feedback from people who actively use grabbers in their daily lives.

Here are some key points for improvement that I’m already considering:

Product Quality: I aim to increase the overall quality of the grabber so that it lasts longer and allows for easy repairs.

Grabbing Force: Users report that grabbers often offer inadequate grabbing force, which is a point that I would like to address.

Aesthetics: Most grabbers have the same look and feel. Several people have pointed out that they find them unattractive. How could the redesigned grabber be more appealing and become a more appreciated product?

Storage: People in wheelchairs currently don’t have easy ways to store the grabber in or on their wheelchair. People often place it on their lap, which is not always the best solution. Several users have also mentioned that they would love to have a way to dock the grabber within their environment to prevent it from falling over.

Ergonomics: With current grabbers, lifting heavier objects like soup cans can be difficult due to poor ergonomics. How can the redesigned grabber be more comfortable to use for heavier objects?Modularity: What if the grabber was more versatile and allowed for different tools to connect to it? Some examples could be attaching a shoehorn tool or attaching a specialized grabbing head to retrieve books from a bookshelf. There is also potential to attach tools for cleaning.

I would deeply appreciate receiving your feedback on my ideas so I can make informed decisions for the direction of the project.

Feel free to reach out to me through e-mail: yegel093@newschool.edu

Seeking Help Creating Accessibility App (Research)

Hi everyone!

Hope you're all well.

I'm a (disabled) tech designer working on an idea for an accessibility app. However, I need feedback from people from the disabled community first. Unfortunately I do not have a budget for renumeration. With that in mind, I have scaled back my expectations of labor.

An interview wouldn't take long and can be conducted over email, phone, or zoom (with or without the camera on). I can't provide a time estimate as we all have brains that process at different speeds, different methods of communication, and focus limitations (etc.).

All information gathered will be kept confidential and will be pivotal in my ability to create an app that is truly helpful for our community.

If you are interested, please fill out this short screening survey - https://forms.gle/7tSSnxg9TpUkzw7WA

If you need additional accommodation for the screening survey (linked above), or interview (if selected), please let me know!

Thanks!
