Hey everyone,
I'm looking for participants for a survey for my Bachelor's Thesis "Exploring and improving accessibility features in video games using the example of Apex Legends". While the focus is on Apex Legends, it's completely fine if you've never played that game specifically :)
I'm not focused on any specific impairment, so I'm looking for just about anyone (that is 18+ years old), from visual impairment, hearing impairment, ASD, Dyslexia, to anything else. I would like to know about how your impairment affects your gaming experience, what kind of challenges you face and what tools/features are most helpful for you.
It should take you about 15-20 minutes to fill, depending on the depth of your responses. Anything at all you'd like to share would really help me out!

Hey all, im a design student looking into people’s experience with mobility aids, anything that has supported your ability to travel (past present or future)so i’m including compression kit. The first page of the survey goes into the details but right now i’m on an information gathering mission lol.
Many teens and young adults who use mobility devices face unique obstacles transitioning to independence. A significant challenge for these young people is learning to effectively utilize ground transportation. As experienced mobility device users know, "accessible" infrastructure and facilities do not always mean "usable."
To address these challenges, the University of Pittsburgh’s Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL; https://www.herl.pitt.edu/participate) has developed an innovative, gamified approach designed to help mobility device users anticipate and respond to common obstacles they may encounter when using ground transportation. HERL is now developing a version of the game specifically for teens and young adults.
As part of this research, we are recruiting young adults aged 18 to 25, their parents, and providers who work with teens and young adults who use mobility devices. Participants will be asked to engage in one-on-one interviews with a HERL investigator to discuss their perspectives and experiences. Interviews will take approximately 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Mobility device users, providers, and allies who participate in this study will receive a $25 gift card as a Thank-you for their time. If you are interested or would like more information about this study, please email HERL at jhr40@pitt.edu.
Hi!
I am an industrial design student and I wanted to hear about the experience of parents with one hand and see if I could develop a product that could help you.
What difficulties are you facing?
What stage of the baby is the most challenging?
What creative solutions have you found?
And more specifically - how do you diaper your baby?
thank you!

Hi all! I’m a full sighted graphic designer and was curious how emphasis conveyed in written text is interpreted for people with blindness or vision impairment?
As a graphic designer we explore a lot of different fonts (arial, times new roman, comic sans, etc.) and have the ability to manipulate those typefaces in order to communicate and express whatever message we’re trying to convey. For example, being able to make a certain word or phrase larger, or bold. I know that braille doesn’t allow for that same type of exploration and expression (and as far as I’m aware not many people use braille anyway).
How does a person with blindness or visual impairment perceive emphasis or tone with different styles of text manipulation (italicize vs bold, arial vs comic sans), and is there an alternative way to express it?

I am hoping to make a adaptable bra. One that is stylish and effective. I've found a lot of front closure bras to be aesthetically unappealing. I believe that everyone deserves to feel sexy and confident in their undergarments/apparel in general.

Hello, I’m a designer from Hatch Duo, a design consultancy based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We’re currently working with Arize Innovations on developing a universal, affordable, and easy to put on prosthetic for below the knee amputees. In order to make sure everything is comfortable and effective we were looking to interview some below the knee amputees to learn more about their experience and to help give pointers during our design process, as well as to test out some prototypes. We were wondering if anyone currently in the Bay Area would be comfortable with speaking with us and testing out prototypes in person?
If you or anyone you know is interested please let me know at nicole@hatchduo.com Also let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you for your time!!
Hi everyone! See below for a recruitment blurb. Although this is an interview-based rather than survey project, I'm hoping this subreddit can help me find some willing participants!
Participate in a Barnard College senior thesis project about people who live in New York City and receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). I’m looking to center people’s own narratives of their experiences with SSDI and the decisions they make through, after, and beyond the SSDI application process.
Interviews will take about 60-90 minutes, and depending on participants’ preference, conducted either in-person or on Zoom. Participants must live in New York City and currently receive SSDI benefits. Participant names and identities will not be shared with anyone outside the project. All participants will be given a pseudonym after the interview.
Contact me at msj2155@barnard.edu if you or anyone you know might be interested. Please feel free to ask any and all questions you have! Here is a link to a Google form to express interest. Thank you for your consideration!
For my senior design project I am making a clothing collection designed for amputees, specifically teenagers who are looking for fashionable pieces they can wear everyday. This could be either for prosthetic users or non-prosthetic users.
I would really love to hear your thoughts and ideas for this project, so that I can make it as beneficial as possible! I will be making all of these pieces from scratch, and am still deciding whether I should focus on casualwear, formalwear or another clothing market.
Some questions which you may like to discuss:
- Are there any functional features these clothes should have? E.g. extra zippers/buttons/velcro, comfortable materials, pockets, wide seams, elastic, etc.
- What is the most difficult and most easy clothing to wear as a amputee?
- Do you wear custom clothing designed for amputees? Is it effective, why or why not?
- Would you prefer clothing which conceals or shows off prosthetics?
Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Hi! My colleagues and I are working on a project where we are trying to provide a technical solution that could help visually impaired people more easily navigate urban areas. Before we begin, we wanted to gather input from the community to better understand the common challenges that visually impaired people face when navigating city streets. Specifically, we would love to hear your thoughts on the following questions:
How do you currently use technology, if at all, to assist with navigation? Are there specific apps or tools you rely on?
Are there specific obstacles, frustrations, or areas where existing solutions fall short that you'd like to see addressed?
What types of information are most helpful for you while navigating (e.g., directions, descriptions of nearby landmarks, warnings about obstacles)?
Are there specific audio or tactile cues in the environment that you find particularly helpful or that you wish were more widely available?
Would you be interested in a solution that could give you detailed descriptions of the environment (like buildings, storefronts, or nearby points of interest)? If so, what kind of details would you find most useful?
How do you prefer to get updates or feedback from navigation tools (e.g., spoken directions, vibrations, sounds)? Are there situations where one mode of feedback works better than another?
Do you think being able to virtually explore a place beforehand would help build your confidence in navigating that space later? If so, what specific features would be most helpful (e.g., layout of streets, landmarks, obstacles)?
What kind of information or cues would you need in a VR environment to make it a useful tool for navigation (e.g., audio descriptions, tactile feedback, spatial awareness)?
Additionally, we're interested in learning more about the ways some visually impaired individuals use echolocation as a navigation tool. If you have experience with echolocation, we'd love to hear your thoughts on the following questions:
Do you use echolocation as part of your navigation strategy in urban environments? If so, how effective is it for you in identifying obstacles, landmarks, or open spaces?
Do you think there’s potential for technology to assist or augment echolocation abilities? If so, how would you imagine it working?
Do you think echolocation is a skill that could benefit from being taught or practiced in virtual environments, such as in VR settings?
Whether it's difficulties with crossing streets, identifying landmarks, avoiding hazards, or following directions, we'd love to hear about your experiences. Thank you so much for your time!
