On the 12th of November i saw Devin Live with my Dad, it was my first concert ever and it was fucking sick, He had always been someone who i never thought i would see in real life I even fucking pat his shoulder it was crazy to me, albums such as Ocean machine, Terria, Ghost, Physicist, Infinity, Synchresta, Ki, Epicloud aswell as his demos and SYL stuff like City, I wanted to go on a rant about how Devin can create such pure authentic power, mystery and optimism in his songs no other artist I've listened to in my music infatuated 17 years on this world can replicate this sound, And on top of this my Dad has stated thousands of times how Devin was the closest thing to his hero and how his music kept him alive , Hell he even said it to Devin at the concert and Devin kinda dismissed it although what my Dad said was true and after seeing how music can affect ones life to such a degree i completely understand how my Dad feels, I just wanted to show my all over the place experience and appreciation for what Devin has created. Real fucking music that walks with you through hell and high water
I think the song No More Rain by Kylie Minogue has a strong Devin feel (post Sky Blue) in the verse/chorus and I totally could see Anneke singing it (but tbf it's the only song I know of her that sounds like that). That's all, what do you think ? Edit: grammar
Townsend mixed/produced this record by Soilwork and I've been looking for info about whether he may've had a hand in some of the writing for some songs on there. I'm specifically thinking of Blackstar Deceiver, where he's a guest vocalist in, and the chorus has that sort of prog "cosmic" shift in keys that might be sth Townsend could've written, although the album states "All music written by SOILWORK". I was wondering if anyone maybe had info from footage, an interview or sth on that.
Would love a remaster of this. Anyone else?
Hi there! Not having posted anything on this subreddit in years, I decided the time has come to rectify that.
For whatever reason, I've always found Devin's track sheets interesting (y'know, those tables that contain tentative song titles and recording stages, here's an example of what I'm thinking of). It's cool to see the original song titles and when those songs were originally recorded/planned (for example, until recently, I had no clue that "Knuckledragger" was a song considered for inclusion on Transcendence!) Some of them can easily be found (some are on the Wiki, some are on Dev's Instagram), but others seem to be elusive (Ki, Addicted...).
Basically, there are two things I was hoping some of y'all could help me out with. First – if you have (links to) pictures of those track sheets somewhere, whichever record they happen to be connected to, I'd appreciate it if you could post those in the comments. Secondly, I'm also curious about what happened to some of the songs mentioned in those tables – whether they went through a simple name change or if they were ultimately left off the original record. If some of you have info on that, be it through interviews or magazines, that'd be awesome.
For starters, Synchestra's original tracklist included songs like "Nail Broth", "Nightdrive", "Chix" and "Released". I think that "Chix" morphed into "Sunset" and "Nail Broth" ended up becoming "Gaia", but I have no clue what happened to those other songs.
Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers!
Ordered physical copies of the recent Dev tour with some other not so talented guy, who happened to be headlining.
Ticket only says Myles Kennedy plus Special Guests,
How Dare they refer to Devin as a Special guest! :(
II'l go first: He produced the entire Ziltoid album by himself, playing all the instruments, programming the drums, and handling the production.
Hope this is allowed - the Finnish store Record Shop X currently has the Puzzle Boxsets for 60% off. It's 100 euros (about $105), down from 270. I just ordered a copy, and shipping to the US was about $20. Dunno how long this sale will last though.
Question for the guitar players! I'm trying to learn Regulator on guitar. Anyone know how to play the lick at the very start of Regulator? I'm talking about the pickup measure before the main riff kicks in. If you look at the Live in Plovdiv 2017 video at 0:11, it's pretty clear that this this tab is wrong. I'm still not sure what he's playing though.
Just wanted to share; Devin's recording stuff for The Moth's follow-up Axolotl (working title?) right now, and if you follow Ryan Dahle on Instagram, you can catch some glimpses of the process!
Seeing another post from this time period inspired me to post this silly tabloid I posted on the HD forum back in the day. Printed it and got it signed by him <3 Such an amazing human. One of many creations by myself and others that he'd wind up using as a slideshow at his shows :)
Figured i might aswell post the picture i have of me and Dev back in 2011. This was from a concert in Oslo @ Betong.
When Devin says "SUCK IT UP!"
I love that.
Hey all!
Anyone got any insight into who will make up Dev's backing band for this upcoming North American 2025 headlining tour with TesseracT?
I know that these will come out on vinyl eventually, but does anyone if he’s gonna make physical copies of these in other formats like CDs or is that something someone besides him would have to do?
