Online lyrics suggest the final chorus says ‘I’ve got to let you go’, however listening to the song and in the commentary version, Devin says ‘I’ve got to let you know’. Does anyone have anything official in writing to confirm? Apple Music lyrics aren’t even there at all and I haven’t got the physical version yet!
Hey ya’ll, ready for the 100th post like this? Me too!
Long time Devy fan here, I discovered him around the time self titled SYL / Accelerated Evolution came out. I’m more of an old school Dev fan, Ocean Machine, Infinity, Terria, City, AE, Alien etc is some of my favourite music ever made. Like a lot of folks here I have kind of struggled to connect with his newer albums, the last one that really hit me in any kind of emotional way was Transcendence which I feel like is underrated generally speaking. Empath was pretty solid, Lightworker had some jams but kinda meh.
Anyways, Powernerd is slowly sinking its hooks into me. The first couple listens my first reaction was more of the “meh” variety but the last few days the album has started revealing itself more to me and its hit me in the feels more every listen through. It has some amazing choruses (Ubelia, Goodbye, Jainism are my current faves).
That being said its frustrating at the same time because most songs feel like they are rushing to get to the chorus. Most of the songs are also hover around the 4:30 time frame which makes it feel somewhat repetitive. I know this was meant to be a simple straightforward record, but I can’t help but wonder if some of these songs were expanded a bit with some longer bridges or verses if they’d hit even harder. But I also have zero musical talent or songwriting ability so maybe my opinion doesn’t matter!
Anyways, I’m still enjoying the album and it feels more like the Dev I love than what I’ve heard from him in quite a while.
Anyone else notice what sure sounds like a death metal growl at 1:28?
Just wondering if the Bluray has a visualizer along with the audio?
Thanks

After about 3 or 4 days of work, I got the entire Punky Brüster album tabbed out for guitar. Check it out if you're a guitar player!
I did not expect to get goosebumps and chills throughout the entire album. I was glad I had the house to myself because I was tearing up in a lot of parts. Absolutely delighted, and couldn't help but let out a fucking huge laugh at the end after the final track.
I'm just about to listen to the commentary but consider me totally floored. This is going to get a lot of listens out of me. One thing I wanted to comment on is how vivid it is - as someone who has a sort of synesthesia (though perhaps more mild than Dev's) it was texturally/visually gorgeous to me throughout. Hard to explain. All the colours were vivid and just perfect.
Thanks Devy.
"I fall in love... in love I fall"
EDIT: The commentary is exactly what I need right now... how sobering.
also highlights for me are: Falling Apart, Gratitude, Ubelia, Jainism and Glacier. + shoutout to Ruby Quaker for making me fucking cackle. What a beautiful collection of songs.
This has been bugging me for days. The "all we are is..." part in Jainism and the main melody in Glacier ("fear torn away / war torn away from us") are both giving me intense deja vu but I can't place them. The Glacier melody feels like it's from some other Devin song, but I'm even more stumped on Jainism. Extra layer of weirdness is that my brain keeps expecting the lyrics to go something like "all we are is broken pieces" but that's not how the actual song goes at all and there are no useful results on google for that phrase.
Anyone else, or am I just fried?
I have checked this latest album form Devin Townsend and i loved Lightwork and this seems kinda simlar somewhat
My top 5 track from Powernerd
Falling Apart
Younger Lover
Jainism
Ubelia
Knuckledragger
In anticpation of getting the 2-disc CD, are there lyrics for the 3 demo tracks? Tried looking online but didn't see any!
Mods, delete as necessary; I'm definitely not trying to step on your toes, here. Some subs have more active mods than others, so I'm just trying to cover bases looking out for people, just in case.
A serial scammer, Substantial-Toe-8110, was recently spotted making a post in your subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DevinTownsend/comments/1ge7qzv/i\_am\_looking\_to\_sell\_my\_devin\_townsend\_collection/
He stole the pictures for his scam from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DevinTownsend/comments/1ch7fpb/my\_collection\_so\_far/
Obviously, since the pics are stolen, he doesn't actually have any of the items pictured. He just wants to take your money, typically by insisting on being paid through PayPal Friends & Family. This method leaves buyers without PayPal's purchase protections when the items you "bought" never arrive. If called out, he is likely to block everyone (or at least the person who called him out) and delete everything to cover his tracks. He might repost and claim his previous post was removed "by the Reddit filter" to downplay suspicion that his post suddenly disappeared, but he hasn't done that very often since I started posting these warnings.
As you can see, he is a notorious, habitual scammer: https://www.reddit.com/search/?q=Substantial-Toe-8110&sort=new
I have reported him to the sub mods and Reddit admins. Encouraging any of you readers to do it too violates Reddiquette but hopefully you will decide on your own that it's something you want to do. If your subreddit has a Discord, please consider sharing this information there, too. And, since I'm blocked, I can't warn any of the potential victims that have already commented in the scam saying they want to buy from him, so... look out for each other? If you catch my drift?
Lastly, if you saw this warning too late, and you think you may have been scammed, you have a couple options:
If possible, cancel the payment through PayPal
If it's too late to cancel through PayPal, contact your bank/credit card company and report the scam. It's possible that they might be able to help you get your money back even when PayPal won't
If you're feeling particularly resentful and you're in the US, consider filling out this form: https://complaint.ic3.gov/ (Disclaimer: This is a *very serious* form. It's the *FBI*. Don't take this option lightly. Also, I've never personally done that form, so I don't know what it involves. I just know it's for online scams, including international ones such as this)
Thanks, and happy (and safe!) Redditing!
Specifically, like the first two studio albums that are way more industrial and extreme?
I can imagine Goodbye being stripped back and sounding punky
Especially after listening to the Documentary album version of PN, as much as it alredy provides a different context to enjoy the album (more for me);
i just wish that Dev had channeled all this emotions, anger, sadness, confusion into 1 more epic song like a DEADHEAD 2.0, really singing and screaming his fkin heart out. I don't care if he would have never performed it live etc, just wish there would have been this 1 pure raw ultra intense track.
so in a way it seems ironic that he says that earlier, he kind of always intellectualized his emotions and made them quite... distant in a way, yet still producing songs like Deadhead, Funeral/Bastard/DoM etc.,
yet his MOST emotional song is "Goodbye" on Powernerd, which, if you did not knew the story behind, would NEVER show. Just wish it had this ultra emotional intense climax to better go along with what he describes how this album came to be
your thoughts?
"Orthosia rubescens, the RUBY QUAKER, is a species of cutworm or dart MOTH in the family Noctuidae."
Hmmm...
Seems like great music but I am fatiguing quickly. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot happening and it's not an easy mix but I can't listen to something that is this restrictive. The upper treble is just not there at all (exaggeration - it's very restricted) and the vocals just need to be brought forward (or something does). It's as if I'm listening to a 96kbps mp3 and everything has been squashed together. It's close to feeling like you're listening to an album that is playing in the other room.
Really loved it, was great to see some names of people he shared albums / tours with(For me Kat Epple who played the flute on ghost I learned from this book).
I feel like it would be better to reread his first memoir Only Half Way There, and this together.
Got the signature edition too so it was sweet to see my name in the credits.
I would highly recommended this book for any HevyDevy fan, it might be even better if you’re familiarized with his career.
I wish there were more with photos from when he went from SYL to Ziltoid, and early DTP (addicted / ki) back to solo (empath / light work) but I guess those are very recent in comparison to his earlier bands / Steve Vai.
You guys find anything particularly interesting in the book?
P.s. (My book had some funny grammar mistakes/ spelling errors).
Hello Devy collectors. I found this vinyl single of coast. Does anyone know anything about this here? It seems this signed print is suposed to be "hand numbered" by devin, but it dont have a number written though? Why is that? But it is indeed signed. I thought it could be a cool little collectible, is i legit, and why is it not numbered ?

Has Devin ever come out and endorsed or mentioned what his favorite brand of coffee is? I love my cheap Costco/Kirkland Signature tin can stuff but man would I love to try some of whatever he’s having.
This was a tough listen. I’m a 42yo guy and by the end of it I just wanted hug Devin.
A few years ago I’d reached that broken dam point where everything made me cry when it all got too much. It had been a rough 2 years. There was a point I’d hit rock bottom, it was over that day. I was going to end it.
That same day Devin had put out a tweet thanking fans. I replied saying his music is my pillar of strength. He replied saying “be well”. Oh my god I cried. I cried for an hour. Proper hard crying.
It’s so hard to hear him go through the same thing. I actually nearly ended up crying a couple of times listening to it.
I love Devin and I’m so glad we have him and his music.
Hey, y'all! I feel like I'm going insane reading the lyrics for the song "Monday" off of Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing.
Specifically the part at 3:24, I CLEARLY hear Dev saying, "The way the insects burrow in perfect harmony"
But EVERYWHERE I look (Genius, AZLyrics, and even the SYL wiki) the lyrics are listed as, "The way the engines purr in perfect harmony"
Obviously, "The way the-" and, "perfect harmony" are correct, but I feel like I distinctly hear not 4 syllables but 5 after, "The way the", and before, "perfect harmony" which makes me question the lyrics I find listed everywhere else.
If anyone could lend their ears and tell me I'm not crazy, I'd appreciate it! (or, you know, politely tell me that I am lol)
Addicted 10 empath 10 lightwork 8 night work 10 power nerd 7 but growing on me!
