Way more athletic than people give him credit for. Way more dynamic too
My pick at 5
Starters: Cade, Grimes, Fontecchio, Ausar, Stewart
Bench: Ivey, Sasser, Brown Jr, Duren
9 deep, starters all play defense, Cade being the worst with what we know. 4 shooters. Stew is small but switchable and a better defender than Duren. I think Cade is a legit star with this lineup, especially if Ausar is cutting hard and rebounding like he did early.
Bench brings scoring, and a change of pace. Hopefully Grimes returns to what he was known as. I'm not saying stand pat and do nothing, I was just considering what could be done with what we already have. I think this lineup in itself would result in double the wins of what we had this last year. Brown Jr did look like crap, but I'm working with what we have.
here are the last three players i really didn't want:
2021 - mobley
2022 - chet
2023 - amen
hopefully i'm wrong again and he's a stud!
The 5th pick in this draft will not solve this teams shooting woes. But Holland might have the highest upside of any player in draft. Holland and Ausar combo could be one of the best defensive/athletic guard/wing combos in league. Holland jumpshot percentage was terrible in gleague but like Buzelis he suffered on Ignite team with no actual point guard. He’s aggressive and gets to FT line and shot decent percentage from line. Also Ivey insurance in case he doesn’t improve, gets relegated to bench role, or he’s moved later in offseason
I have been seeing on my feed recently about realistic players the pistons can acquire like Brandon Ingram or Devin Booker and other such lucrative trades….
Realistically there is no way we don’t get outbid by another team for a player of this caliber are we perpetually stuck with zach lavine for way too much??
On top of this CANT EVEN MAKE A TRADE UNTIL THIS WHOLE POBO THING IS FIGURED OUT or can they I guess that would be something we’d do!
There is a world where Risacher falls to us, he seems to be the best alignment of BPA and fit. But it would take him falling past Washington and San Antonio. Damn does falling to 5 suck hard.
Yesterday nikola topic suffered a non-contact knee injury. No further details have surfaced, but in the event this hurts his draft stock and sarr, shepherd, risacher, and buzelis go top four who are you taking at 5?
Next year the lottery Gods have to bless us, Cooper Flagg it is. Blessing in disguise
I’d presume anyone who wants us to draft Knecht would want us to trade Ivey, so would Knecht start at the 2 or the 3?
Like he has the size to play the 3, maybe that leaves room for Grimes to start as the 2 if we trade Ivey?
Then who starts as our PF, maybe play Ausar as our PF and then se if we can find a big who can stretch the floor in free agency?
Or do we look for a guy who’s more of a floor spacer who fits in at the 4, then ideally try and sign Hartenstein or Claxton in FA?
The Knicks will only be able to offer Hartenstein $16-$17 million a year because they don’t have his full bird rights. I really think the pistons should try hard to get him. 4/85-100 is probably the price tag but I think he’s worth it. It’s about what Poetl, Vuc, Turner, Allen, are making so it’s not a bad deal. He’s also 26 with fairly low NBA tread on his legs.
I don’t really believe in Duren’s defensive upside at this point. He should at least not be a starter next season until he shows improvements. Gotta protect the rim in drop or be great at switching. I don’t Duren is gonna be great at either.
Fit and need .. book em
Might as well. Really rub it in our faces for how bad this organization is.
That or Take Bronny at 5 as nothing but a fuck you to Bron for no warranted reason. Bron ain’t coming to Detroit even if we draft his son, just do something with this pick to just piss the fans off.
If Lebron, CP, Durant and Curry all said that they want to team up, Detroit would be their best bet cap space wise. If this team had to trade everything (Cade, Ivey, Ausar, Duren, all the picks that are available to be traded etc) would you sign up for 2 years of the NBA version of the expendables?
In this hypothetical the rest of the roster will be minimums and vets ring chasing
Everyone have a look on who I want us to draft. He's a lot more than a stationary shooter
It seems to me, most posts pre-lottery were about issues with the front office and now most post-lottery are issues with the lottery system not benefiting Pistons and how the NBA is terrible. The lottery was designed around NOT rewarding ineptitude.
The Pistons have been poorly run for 15 years with an equally bad draft/development record. The NBA benefits from a system that punishes teams like the Sterling Clippers, Sarver Suns, Maloof Kings, Jordan Hornets, or, yes, the Gores Pistons, and forces them to improve. The NBA isn’t in a death spiral and Adam Silver isn’t evil because Detroit can’t get its shit together. Fans need to keep focus and continue to pressure the front office to improve ( …and Gores to sell the team :) ).
Here’s the quote: Part of the hold up, league sources say, is that Detroit appears interested in making a run at Minnesota Timberwolves head executive Tim Connelly, whose team is currently in the midst of a second-round playoff matchup with Connelly’s former team, the defending-champion Denver Nuggets.
Whether or not Connelly returns to the Timberwolves, league sources say he is likely to opt out of the final year of his contract. It seems likely that Connelly will return to Minnesota, but if Pistons owner Tom Gores is willing to offer something like $15 million annually, that could be enough to pry him away.

So then Gores can make a godfather offer to Connelly since their season will be done.

The Detroit Pistons could come to a hiring decision on their president of basketball operations within the next few weeks, league sources tell The Athletic.
Whomever the Pistons tab for the position won’t have the benefit of a top-three pick at their disposal, as the organization fell to No. 5 for the third straight year during Sunday’s NBA Lottery, but even so, Detroit has been speaking to some promising candidates to fill the role, which has been vacant since 2018.
Part of the hold up, league sources say, is that Detroit appears interested in making a run at Minnesota Timberwolves head executive Tim Connelly, whose team is currently in the midst of a second-round playoff matchup with Connelly’s former team, the defending-champion Denver Nuggets.

New Orleans’ Trajan Langdon, Dallas’ Dennis Lindsey and Chicago’s Marc Eversley, among others, have established themselves as viable targets for the role, league sources tell The Athletic.
