SOME OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES

I am writing a fictional story, and it involves an oasis. This might be helpful for me to know.
Obviously there would still be differences, but is there any desert in the US that would give me a similar experience to being in the Middle East? Huge dunes, that sort of thing?
Will any deserts be in bloom around mid next week? Considering a road trip, but that's the soonest I'd get there and wondering if I'd miss it.
An interesting area of Northern NM.
